Blaise the Hieromartyr of Sebastia
Saint Blaise was Bishop of Sebastia. Divine grace, through which he healed the diseases of men and beasts, and especially of infants, made his name famous. He contested for the Faith under Licinius in the year 316. Saint Blaise is invoked for the healing of throat ailments.

Theodora the Empress
As for the renowned Empress Theodora, she was from Paphlagonia and was the daughter of a certain Marinus, the commander of a military regiment. While being the wife of the Emperor Theophilus, the last of the Iconoclasts, she adorned the royal diadem with her virtue and piety; as long as her husband Theophilus lived, she privately venerated icons, despite his displeasure. After his death, she restored the holy icons to public veneration; this is commemorated on the Sunday of Orthodoxy, the First Sunday of the Great Fast. She governed the Empire wisely for fifteen years, since her son Michael was not yet of age. But in 857 she forsook her royal power and entered a certain convent in Constantinople called Gastria, where she finished the course of her life in holiness and reposed in the Lord. Her sacred incorrupt remains are found in Corfu, in the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos of the Cave in the capital city of the island (see also Dec. 12).

The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:1-10.
Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. Wisdom of the Fathers
There is an old saying: 'Excesses meet.' Too much fasting and too much eating come to the same end. Keeping too long a vigil brings the same disastrous cost as ... sluggishness... Too much self-denial brings weakness and induces the same condition as carelessness. Often I have seen men who would not be snared by gluttony fall, nevertheless, through immoderate fasting and tumble in weakness into the very urge which they had overcome. Unmeasured vigils and foolish denial of rest overcame those whom sleep could not overcome. Therefore, 'fortified to right and to left in the armor of justice,' as the apostle says (2 Cor. 6:7), life must be lived with due measure and, with discernment for a guide, the road must be traveled between the two kinds of excess so that in the end we may not allow ourselves to be diverted from the pathway of restraint which has been laid down for us nor fall through dangerous carelessness into the urgings of gluttony and self-indulgence.

The GOYA & Philoptochos are working together to fill 200+ Jared's Boxes with small gifts, games, books & other activities to give a fun diversion to children in local hospitals. We have been collecting items for tween & teen boys and girls (ages 8 and up). All purchased items may be dropped off in the collection bin in the gallery by TODAY. The boxes will be assembled as a service project during the upcoming Holy Trinity hosted GOYA basketball tournament on Friday February 16. - Thurs. Feb 15, 7:00am: “Prayer & Panera” – Prayer and Christian fellowship for men. Meet at church promptly at 7:00am for a 15–20-minute morning prayer and scripture, then move up the hill to Panera for 45 minutes of coffee & conversation.
[Feb 12] GOYA Basketball Practice
GOYA continues to practice for the 2024 season. This week’s practice will be held on Monday, February 12 from 6:00-8:00pm at the North Allegheny Intermediate School (NAI), 350 Cumberland Rd, Lower Gym. All teens are invited.
[Feb 16-18] Holy Trinity GOYA Basketball Tournament THIS WEEKEND - Volunteers Are STILL Needed!
Holy Trinity will host a Metropolis GOYA Basketball Tournament this weekend, February 16-18. Together as a community we will be receiving over 450 GOYAns, clergy, coaches, and chaperones from 11 parishes throughout the Metropolis. To make the tournament a success, the GOYA will need help from everyone in our community. Volunteers are still needed to run the clocks and keep score, oversee gyms & hotels, serve as medical points of contact at the gyms, sell concessions and prepare and serve meals. 2024 “Stewardship Independence Mountain” – Have You Joined the Climb? We Need You!
Holy Trinity Church and all its ministries are made possible through the generous donations and support of our stewards, who offer their time, talents, and treasures throughout the year. The 2024 Stewardship Pledge Cards have been mailed out. If you have not yet received a printed pledge card, you may pick one up in the Narthex or call the office at (412-366-8700) to request one to be sent by mail. You also have the option of making your 2024 Stewardship Pledge ONLINE through our new Realm system. It’s so easy! Just visit our website at HolyTrinityPgh.org/pledge or click the “2024 Stewardship Pledge” icon on the front page. Remember, every Holy Trinity member who pledges or donates already has a Realm account, and that makes pledging, giving, and reporting so much easier! [Mar 10] Holy Trinity Dance Troupe - Pancake Rally Fundraiser
The HT Dance Troupe will be hosting a pancake rally fundraiser during hospitality hour on Sunday March 10. They will be serving pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, and fruit, as well as juices and coffee. Tickets are $5 for children and $10 for adults. These donations will allow the dance troupe to purchase additional costumes for our ever-growing youth groups to use during our festival.
Hospitality Hour News
Our Hospitality Hour is something many parishioners and visitors greatly appreciate and comment about frequently, as it exemplifies the fellowship and community spirit of Holy Trinity Church. Such an on-going offering would be too much for one ministry or group to do continuously, but it is not much effort for any single person or group if it is shared. So please, do your part and volunteer! How? Offer to help set up or clean up once or twice during the year or gather with a couple of families and host a Sunday, to honor someone or something, or “just because.” See an “Open Table” date? About Receiving Holy Communion in the Orthodox Church
We welcome all who have come to worship with us today. In accordance with the holy canons and traditions of the Church, please note that Holy Communion and the other Holy Mysteries (Sacraments) are received only by those who are baptized and chrismated (confirmed) Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared through prayer, fasting and confession. All others are invited receive the antidoron (blessed bread) and a blessing from the priest at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy. Please also join our parish family for Hospitality Hour and allow us to meet and welcome you. Interested in joining or learning more about the Orthodox Christian Faith? Please see one of our priests or complete a visitor’s card today! How to receive: Please remember the following helpful hints aimed at helping to preserve the solemnity and safety of the Holy Mystery. Anyone wearing lipstick should remove it before receiving. Be sure to offer your baptismal name to priest before receiving. Please take great care that the red cloth held by the acolytes (you should not hold it) is fully under your chin, then use the centuries-old practice of receiving: please fully open your mouth, then gently close your lips to make sure the Holy Gifts are securely in your mouth and so that none of the holy and precious Body and Blood of Christ is accidentally spilled.
