NEW ECCLESIASTICAL LINENS Warmest thanks to Gina Kolkas and her mother who have purchased and donated some beautiful white linen cloths for our church—two icon stand covers, an altar covering and a hand towel for the priest. May God bless the use of these items and the benefactors who “love the beauty of your house, O Lord!”

NARTHEX LITERATURE RACK Do take advantage of the literature there to educate yourself and to share with others you may know who are curious about the beliefs and practices of the Orthodox Church. It’s the perfect area to share with visitors or guests you may bring or meet in the narthex. The booklets there are available at a nominal cost ($1.50 per booklet unless otherwise marked). Please leave your donation/payment in the tray at the candle stand. Thank you!

NEW CARDS IN THE BOOKSTORE Note how affordable and beautiful they are! Please help support the bookstore by purchasing cards from us when you have a need. Also, for the Orthodox Christian, the bookstore does have a small supply of burial shrouds. Shrouds are white with an icon image printed on them. They are imported from Greece. Shrouds are traditionally used to cover remains prior to burial. They are not required for burial, but Orthodox people use them if they are available. The cost is $30.

PARISH FINANCES As of six weeks ago, YTD, our expenses are $45k and our income is $37.2k - deficit $7.8k.

OUR FRIENDS AT SAVING GRACE THRIFT SHOP SEND YOU A BIG THANK YOU! Our friends at United Methodist’s Saving Grace Thrift Shop (near intersection of Union & Sanford Streets), ask us to thank all the parishioners who have donated towels to give to the homeless in our area over recent weeks. Towels are always needed to meet needs in this neighborhood. The staff has been so grateful to get a bump up in their supplies through your help over the past month. Saving Grace routinely services homeless persons, those mentally/physically challenged, those who’ve lost jobs, those newly released from prison who need to start afresh, etc. We’ll continue to collect towels here at St. George, passing them on to Saving Grace. Be assured, there is always a need. If you can pick up some additional towels occasionally to benefit those in our area, we’ll make sure they are delivered to Saving Grace. Thank you!

AUGUST 25, 26 & 27 ST. GEORGE’S FOOD BOOTH AT WATERFRONT FOLK FESTIVAL It’s that time again--sign up sheets are outside the kitchen in the fellowship area. We need volunteers (as always) and we welcome new volunteers as well. Most importantly, we need to know ahead of time how many people will be available on which days and for what shifts. It makes all the difference for the planners so please help by signing up if you haven’t already. We will succeed with your help and make no mistake about it—we do need you! Here’s an idea—do you have a friend or a neighbor who might like to be involved for a shift with you? Who doesn’t love the energy (and food) generated by our booth during our major yearly fund-raiser? OPA!! More details to come…

GENERAL INFORMATION

IS THIS YOUR FIRST VISIT TO ST. GEORGE? If you are visiting our parish this morning, welcome! Orthodox Church tradition encourages Orthodox Christians in good standing with the Church to approach the Holy Chalice for Communion... however, if you are not Orthodox, we ask that you please refrain. All worshipers are welcome to receive antidoron (a piece of blessed bread) immediately following the Divine Liturgy. Please stay for fellowship hour that we might get to know you.

WORSHIPING THE TRUE & LIVING GOD Worshiping the Living God, the All-Holy Trinity, is a witness of our faith in and love for Him. The Divine Liturgy is the service of thanksgiving to God. The Divine Liturgy is also the service of particular nurture for the Orthodox Christian--Christ is Present in the elements of Holy Communion. He nurtures those who approach with fear (reverence), faith and love. Those who partake of Communion receive God within. This is a great Mystery, not to be taken lightly, but one that the Orthodox Christian is bid to COME. Please avail yourself of the opportunities to worship the Lord and to receive Him in faith.

JOIN US FOR FELLOWSHIP HOUR DOWNSTAIRS Everyone is encouraged to come downstairs after service for refreshments. If you’re visiting, please let us treat you. We’re a family here and we all contribute toward the table weekly. So, thank you to all who have made fellowship time possible again today!

VALET PARKING Some parishioners have difficulty walking distances and find it hard to park near enough to the church on Sunday mornings. If this applies to you, please do the following: park in the loading zone in front of the church, and come indoors with your car key and ask in the office for someone to park the car for you and you will be assisted. We are here to help one another. Please ask for help if needed. Thank you.

GREAT VESPERS St. George Church offers Great Vespers at 6PM on any evening before a Divine Liturgy will be served. Each Saturday evening at 6PM, Great Vespers is served in anticipation of Sunday morning’s Divine Liturgy. This will also be true of evenings preceding a major feast. Participation in these services is an opportunity for us to worship corporately and multiply the power of our prayers. If for any reason vespers will not be served, you will receive a message beforehand via the church list-server advising cancellation.

ROUTINE SERVICE TIMES AT ST. GEORGE Great Vespers 6PM (the evening before a Divine Liturgy); Orthros/Matins (morning prayers) 9AM; Divine Liturgy 10AM.

NAME DAYS If you would like to participate in a Divine Liturgy on your Name Day, please let Fr. Leo know to arrange this beforehand.

SPECIAL PRAYER SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED Fr. can meet you here at the church and offer particular prayers for you if you are going to be traveling or are preparing to have medical procedures done (hospitalization, etc.) He is available to make hospital visits and will routinely visit those in convalescent care. Please arrange with him according to need. Thank you.

Silas, Silvan, Crescens, Epenetus and Andronicus the Apostles of the 70

Saint Silas was a companion and fellow labourer of the Apostle Paul: "And Paul chose Silas and departed...and he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches" (Acts 15:40-41). He later became Bishop of Corinth, and reposed in peace. Saint Silvanos became Bishop of Thessalonica, and also reposed in peace. Saint Crescents, whom Saint Paul mentions in his Second Epistle to Timothy(4:10), became Bishop of Chalcedon, and brought many to the Faith. As for him whom the Apostle of the Nations praises as "my well-beloved Epenetus, the first-fruits of Achaia unto Christ" (Roman 16:5), he became Bishop of Carthage, and after enduring many afflictions from the idolators, and bringing many of them to Christ, he departed to the Lord.

BRETHREN, I appeal to you by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brethren. What I mean is that each one of you says, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apollos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispos and Gaius; lest any one should say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any one else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a lonely place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves." Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish." And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. Then he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds.
