Saint Ignatius was a disciple of Saint John the Theologian, and a successor of the Apostles, and he became the second Bishop of Antioch, after Evodus. He wrote many epistles to the faithful, strengthening them in their confession, and preserving for us the teachings of the holy Apostles. Brought to Rome under Trajan, he was surrendered to lions to be eaten, and so finished the course of martyrdom about the year 107. The remnants of his bones were carefully gathered by the faithful and brought to Antioch. He is called God-bearer, as one who bare God within himself and was aflame in heart with love for Him. Therefore, in his Epistle to the Romans (ch. 4), imploring their love not to attempt to deliver him from his longed-for martyrdom, he said, "I am the wheat of God, and am ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found to be the pure bread of God."
Saint John Chrysostom has a homily in honour of the translation of the Saint's relics (PG 50:587).

Thank You...Thank You...Thank You
Last weekend, we celebrated the Groundbreaking for our New Community Center, and it was a wonderful day for our Community. His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah was impressed by how many people were here and participating in the Divine Liturgy; with the actual ceremony, and of course the luncheon afterwards. This would not have been possible without everyone coming together. We should all be happy with a job well done-now on to the construction and continued fundraising!
Community Day - Chili Cook-Off
Hopefully you are already preparing your team of chefs, and putting your recipe together, so we can all enjoy our 1st (hopefully annual) Chili Cood-Off next Sunday, February 5. We want to see your enthusiasm with the theme and decorations, and especially taste your Chili!
Mark Your Calendars: Everyone is Invited to a Dinner Dance
This fun fundraiser will be on Saturday, February 11, after Vespers, beginning at 7:00 PM at the Pearl District Building (1209 E. Third Street). The Attire is Black, White, or Red Semi-Formal. Tickets for adults are $50, Children (under 14) $25. Tables are also available: table of 8 for $600, or a table of 10 for $750. Contact Tonya Boone with any questions or to make reservations (918) 607- 0182 or tboone@ekkoranch.com
Home/Business Blessings
There are sheets available in the Narthex for you to fill out and request a home or business blessing. We will schedule the blessings each week after we collect the request every Sunday. Please forgive the delay in getting started, the preparation for the groundbreaking and receiving His Eminence took up more time than anticipated. We will be contacting everyone and begin blessing homes this week. This is a wonderful tradition and opportunity we look forward to each year!
Community Center Update
As you can see, they have made great progress this past week in completing the ground preporatory work. If all goes well, they will continue working and begin setting the forms to pour the foundations. What an exciting time!
Also, the bank is waiting for the Title Company for the final pieces to come together for the closing.
Bible Study Classes
Our Bible Study Class to will continue this week. We will offer two classes, both on Tuesdays. One at 10:30 am, and the other at 6:30 pm. They will run approximately an hour to an hour and a half. Both classes are studying the Gospel of Matthew.
We will also be adding shorter (3-4 week) classes on various parts of Orthodoxy, such as Church History, Sacraments, Vespers, Orthros, Divine Liturgy, Liturgical Items and Actions, Byzantine music and Chanting, and more. These will likely begin in February, though the days/times have not been finalized.
Divine Services This Week
This week we will have Orthros at 8:30 am, followed by Divine Liturgy on Monday for the Three hierarchs, on Wednesday for Saint Tryphon, whose relics we have in our Altar (Faith Group will meet after Divine Liturgy at 10:30), and on Thursday, for the Feast of the Presentation of our Lord to the Temple.
