Psalter Reading Group: Pray Your Way Through the Psalms This Lent!
We have so many treasures in the Orthodox Faith. Our traditions run deep into the Old Testament, including the praying of the Psalms. The Psalter is considered the prayer book of the Church and is used in every service.
As a group, we can unite to read the Psalms together throughout the fast, which begins this year on March 7. All you need is a Bible and a little bit of time each day. You can read at home, at lunch break, or whenever you have an opportunity to read. If you miss a daily reading don’t despair...just jump back in and keep going. Prepare for Pascha by reading the Psalms! The goal is to draw nearer to Christ and one another during this Lenten Fast by reading the Psalms
together as we journey towards Holy Pascha.
How will the Psalter Reading Group work?
*The Psalms are organized into 20 groups of Psalms-each group is called a Kathisma. *In our reading group, we will all be reading a new section each day throughout the 40 day fast, so that we all will reading through the entire book of Psalms twice during the course of the fast.
*Starting on Monday, March 7, read the Kathisma that will be next to your name on the schedule.
*Continue reading one Kathisma per day in numeric order.
* For example, if you are assigned to start with Kathisma 4, you will read Kathisma 4 on Monday, March
7, then you will read Kathisma 5 on Tuesday, March 8, and so on.
How do you join? Please email Leslie Zouboukos, lesliecz@comcast.net Shortly before Great Lent begins, an email will be sent out with a schedule of which Psalms to read each day, and the names of everyone who is participating in the group, so that we can remember one another in our daily prayers.
May God bless us as we read the Psalms together, and may He draw us nearer to Himself and to one
another during this Lent. Have a blessed 40 days!
