Fellowship Hour
Today's Fellowship Hour is Souper Sunday, sponsored by the Mother Maria of Paris Outreach Ministries. Thank you to all our Soup Cooks! Please enjoy the variety of soups we have to offer. As entrance we are asking for a canned good or non-perishable item; your generous donations (the receptacles are on each table) to help outreach to those in need in our Parish Family and community.
Blessing of Candles
As part of our celebration of the great feast of the Meeting of our Lord in the Temple with the Elder Symeon we will bless candles at the end of Liturgy. This is a beautiful Slavic custom and reminds us of the words of the Elder: A light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory for Your people Israel. The candle you receive should be put and lit at your icon corner. You are also welcome to bring your own candles to be blessed.
Mark Your Calendar!
Sunday, February 23--Apokreatiko Luncheon. We will have our traditional lamb shank luncheon on Sunday, February 23, after Liturgy. The tickets are $25 per person. Make sure to get them early, so we know how many dinners to prepare!
Saturday, May 9--Taverna Night--the Outreach Ministries is teaming up with a group of interested Parishioners to plan a Taverna Night. This is a bigger fundraiser; part of the funds will help the Outreach in their philanthropic activities; the greater part will help the church with its expenses. If anyone would be interested in helping out planning this event, please see Elena Newman or Presbytera Anna.
Re-Catechism Meetings this Week
The New Testament You Never Knew is scheduled for this Tuesday, February 4 at 6:30 pm.
Interested in a Little Adventure?
We will begin our on-line Orthodox Book club after Christmas and Theophany. If you are interested in joining the group, please see Fr. Constantine.
Ask the Priest
Sometimes we have questions, but cannot seem to find time to ask Father. Now there is opportunity to leave these questions in the "Ask the Priest Box" located in the Church Hall (it's bright green--you can't miss it!). Father will field the questions once a month in the sermon, as well as in the weekly and monthly bulletins. You can sign your name or not, it doesn't matter. No question is unworthy of attention!
We will soon be beginning an on-line Book Club very soon. If anyone is interested in joining this group, please see Fr. Constantine for details.
This Month's Item Collection
One of the Fall projects of the Mother Maria of Paris Outreach Ministries is to provide convenient “bags of help”, filled with hygiene items and some snacks, for our parishioners to take and to give to the many people we see on street corners or sidewalks asking for help. In order to fill these bags, we are asking for you help in collecting hygiene items, such as regular bars of soap, travel size shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, mouth wash, etc., toothbrushes, dental floss, and other such items, as well as snacks such as granola bars, protein bars, etc. We can also use warm socks. There will be a basket in the Church Hall for your generous donations. Thank you once again from “the least of our brothers and sisters.”
Thank you to everyone who has taken a "bag of help" to hand out to the men and women who are standing out in the cold, asking for some material help. There will be more available soon.
