Prokeimenon. 2nd Tone. Psalm 117.14,18.
The Lord is my strength and my song.
Verse: The Lord has chastened me sorely.

The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 11:31-33; 12:1-9.

Brethren, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie. At Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus in order to seize me, but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped his hands.

I must boast; there is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven -- whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into Paradise --whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows -- and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. Though if I wish to boast, I shall not be a fool, for I shall be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. And to keep me from being too elated by the abundance of revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I besought the Lord about this, that it should leave me; but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION AT STS CONSTANTINE AND HELEN CATHEDRAL IS DONE IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:

1) Orthodox Education students & teachers.
2) Elderly & people with disabilities.
3) Parents with infants being carried in arms.
4) The rest of the congregation and visitors wishing to receive will be dismissed row by row from front to back.

Only practicing Orthodox Christians may receive sacraments.


FEAST OF ST DEMETRIOS

Our sister parish of St. Demetrios, 22909 Center Ridge Rd. Rocky River, celebrates its nameday this week with a Vespers Service on Friday, 10/25, 6:00 PM (not 7:00, as previously announced) and Divine Liturgy on Saturday, 10/26, 9:30 AM. All are invited.

GREEK SCHOOL

Saturday, November 2nd -- will be our 7th Diocesan Greek Language Festival at St. Demetrios Rocky River from 11am-3pm for any student who has studied Greek from Kindergarten through 12th grades. Students can enter artwork, play their instruments or other in a talent show and participate in a quiz bowl. Please e-mail Maria at orthodox_education@stsconstantine.com for further details and to include you on the roster by October 27th.

 


PHILOPTOCHOS ANNUAL OPEN YOUR HEARTS AND WALLET

Please join us for our annual Open your Hearts and Wallet Fundraiser in the fellowship hall on Thursday, November 7th, from 6-9. If you are unable to attend PLEASE consider a generous donation to the Philoptochos. All proceeds will benefit the goods works of Philoptochos.

St. Herman's Dinner - volunteer to help serve dinner at St. Herman's House on Saturday, November 9th at 5:30 p.m.
Men & Women’s Bible Study – come and discuss the Book of John Chapters 6 – 10 at the next Men & Women’s Bible Study on Wednesday, October 30 from 7 – 8 p.m. We meet at the Church.
Zelma George Salvation Army Family Shelter – organize and/or participate in a cookie craft or other children’s event – date to be determined.

OUR ANNUAL PARISH "FALL FEST"

Our annual parish Fall Fest will occur on Sunday, October 27th for all HOPE, JOY, and GOYA families from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.. It will be a wonderful event with friends, games, candy, costumes, music, and more! We look forward to seeing you then. Contact Ted with any questions.


CAVS GREEK NIGHT

Cavs Greek Night - Nov. 29! Tickets are on sale at cavsgreeknight.com. DEADLINE IS OCT. 25. Join Greeks from across the region as we celebrate our community, culture, and heritage with the Cleveland Cavaliers as they take on the Milwaukee Bucks and the Antetokounmpo brothers, Giannis "Greek Freak" and Thanasi. BAKING HELP NEEDED

We need to start preparing for our Thanksgiving and Christmas bake sales. Mark your calendar and come help us when you can: November 2, 23 and December 7, 14, 21. We start at 9 am.


PARISH GENERAL ASSEMBLY

A Parish General Assembly will take place on Sun., Nov. 3, 2019, beginning at 11:30 a.m., or as soon as possible thereafter. All parishioners are invited to attend; however, only those who are in good standing (i.e., pledge paid for 2018 and/or pledge form submitted for 2019) are eligible to vote. If you have not submitted a 2019 stewardship pledge form, please do so at your earliest convenience. Forms are available in the Narthex and online at http://www.stsconstantine.com/ministries/stewardship-committee.

LIBRARY MEETING

The next library meeting will be November 6, 2019 at 1PM. The guest speaker is Ted Cherpas. Ted's topic will be the St. Paul’s Pilgrimage (Greece and Turkey). All are welcome. Please RSVP Elaine Joaquin 440-286-1478.


ST. KYRANNA COOKING CLASS

St. Kyranna Cooking Class for young adults ages 21 - 35(ish) will have its next meeting on Friday, November 8th @ 7:30 p.m. Our guest instructor will be Markos Fikaris, and we'll be making hortokeftedes. ST HERMAN EVENT

St. Herman House - FOCUS is hosting its 7th Annual Fall Speaker Event titled “Beyond the Numbers: A Closer Look at Living in Poverty” on November 18th at 6 pm at the Breen Center in Ohio City. Free parking in the lot adjacent to the building. $30 suggested donation. Tickets will be able to be purchased through the parish representatives (note that not all parishes have a representative at the moment) or purchased online at www.focusnorthamerica.org/clevelandevent
 

GOYA FALL RETREAT AT CAMP NAZARETH

Registration for the 2019 GOYA Fall Retreat at Camp Nazareth will be November 22nd - 24th. Camp registration is now online at pittsburgh.goarch.org. Questions about the event may be sent to Marina Papafil at camp@pittsburgh.goarch.org. Contact Ted to reserve your spot in a St. Cons GOYA carpool.


HAT, MITTEN AND SOCK DRIVE

Philoptochos has started their annual hat, mitten, and sock drive for the Fairfax Schools.All donations may be placed in the brown bin in the entrance of our church. Remember “No one has ever become poor by giving.”


PHILOPTOCHOS

One of our Philoptochos Board members, who works for the East Cleveland Schools, was recently approached by a Parent Mentor concerning and urgent need for children's clothing(uniforms) sizes 6 and up. The boys and girls wear navy, black or khaki pants and solid colored shirts with collars (dress or polo). Many of the students wear the same clothing every day or clothing that is clearly worn out. If anyone has these items that have been outgrown, we ask that they consider donating them to the East Cleveland students. These clothing items can be inexpensively purchased at used clothing stores such as Goodwill, also monetary donations would also be greatly appreciated. We have volunteers willing to take the time out of there day to shop for the students. Please make all checks out to the Sts. Constantine and Helen Philoptochos with uniforms in the memo portion of the Check. All clothing may be placed in the brown bin in the entrance to our church. Thank you in advance for your generosity. 


COFFEE HOUR

PLEASE SING

The congregation is asked to sing together the responses to the litanies after the Great Entrance (pp. 33-37) and after the Holy Anaphora (pp. 51-53).


VISITORS & SACRAMENTS

Everyone is welcome in the Orthodox Church & may receive the blessed bread (antidoron) at the end of the service, but only practicing Orthodox Christians may receive the sacrament of Holy Communion.
