Philoptochos & Hellenic Club
Philoptochos & the Hellenic Club will be participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Wasena Park in Roanoke, Va. We invite everyone that is able (men, women and children) to join our team, ‘Holy Trinity’, for this walk. If you cannot participate in the walk then please think about making a donation. In order to sign up or donate, please go to, http://www.alz.org/ and find the Roanoke Walk. From there, search for team ‘Holy Trinity’.

Greek Festival
ONLY 7 DAYS UNTIL THE FESTIVAL!
Please join us this Saturday, September 9th at 9:30 a.m., to package pastries, Sunday, September 10th, after the Divine Liturgy to cut vegetables and Monday, September 11th at 9:00 a.m. to skewer kebobs. This is a sit-down job and everyone is asked to come and help.  We need a lot of people to show up and help us!

We are in the final preparations and everyone’s help is needed!  We need help each and every day beginning on Saturday, September 9th until we open our doors at 11 a.m. on Friday to the public.  DON’T FORGET…CLEAN-UP DAY, Monday, September 18th at 9 a.m.  Come to the church as much as you can.  We will be at the church from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.  If you have any questions, please contact Frances Simopoulos at 434-851-6830.

New Weekly Services & More
September will bring  new Wednesday evening services and two learning opportunities.  Times are posted on the website and further detail is in the September newsletter.  The classes will also be broadcast via Zoom.  Take a look!

Sunday School 2023
We are proud to offer Sunday School at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church  for grades Pre-K-12 for the 2023-24 academic year. Please fill out the online form below if you would like your child to participate. Students will be dismissed from church on Sundays following Holy Communion. Classes will begin Sunday, October 1st.

Philoptochos This Sunday  (09/10)
Meeting:  swearing in of officers and Business Meeting after Divine Liturgy.
Special Tray:  Philoptochos will pass a tray and collect monies for the Hellenic College Holy Cross Scholarship Fund. These monies will fulfill one of our National commitments that provides tuition scholarships to worthy and dedicated students going to Holy Cross.

Welcome to All Visitors!
Communion
For those visiting an Orthodox Church for the first time, please be aware that Holy Communion is a sign of unity of faith, which is only offered to Baptized and Chrismated Orthodox Christians.  However, all are welcome  to come forward and receive the antidoron (or blessed bread) which is distributed at the end of the service.
Fellowship
Following Divine Liturgy, we invite you to join us for fellowship and refreshments in our hall. Please introduce yourself to one of our Parish Council or welcoming committee members who are gathered near the candle stand in the entrance area, so that we may have the chance to greet and welcome you properly. We strongly encourage you to fill out a Welcome to our Church form.

O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance.
Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18.

Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

Ἀδελφοί, ἴδετε πηλίκοις ὑμῖν γράμμασιν ἔγραψα τῇ ἐμῇ χειρί. Ὅσοι θέλουσιν εὐπροσωπῆσαι ἐν σαρκί, οὗτοι ἀναγκάζουσιν ὑμᾶς περιτέμνεσθαι, μόνον ἵνα μὴ τῷ σταυρῷ τοῦ Χριστοῦ διώκωνται. The Reading is from John 3:13-17

The Lord said, "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him."

Our Redeemer and Maker, Who was Son of God before the ages, became Son of Man at the end of ages. Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal First Mode

Let us worship the Word, O ye faithful, praising Him that with the Father and the Spirit is co-beginningless God, Who was born of a pure Virgin that we all be saved; for He was pleased to mount the Cross in the flesh that He assumed, accepting thus to endure death. And by His glorious rising, He also willed to resurrect the dead.
