A Note in Light of the Corona Virus (Covid-19) Pandemic
We continue to follow the Archdiocese Guidelines sent out previously, and reiterate the following for worship at Saint George:
1. Minimize person-to-person contact. Culturally, we greet each other by kissing and embracing. This should be avoided as much as possible. Keep a safe distance when speaking to others.
2. When you arrive at Church, there will be an area for you to sanitize upon entering and exiting the Church.
3. Please refrain from kissing the icons. But rather, honor the sacred icons by bowing before them; lighting a candle and making the sign of the cross.
4. Concerning Holy Communion - Epidemics and pandemics have plagued human history from the beginning of time. Disease does not affect Holy Communion, nor does it change its basic elements of being the Body and Blood of Christ. Throughout the ages, it falls upon the parish priest/deacon to consume the remaining gifts of Holy Communion at the conclusion of every Divine Liturgy. You may approach the Chalice in usual manner.
5. Antidoron will be distributed by Fr Jim at the end of Liturgy so that only one hand goes into the bowl. Please do not reach for his hand or kiss it, but receive it with an open palm.
As the Church is first and foremost a worshipping community, we will continue to offer the worship services of the church as scheduled. As a Church, we are called upon to pray for our faithful, our world, for those who are sick and for those who are suffering.
BUT… During this time, if anyone wishes not to come to church, the Holy Archdiocese extends this blessing, as an act of love and responsibility for the protection of one’s self and one’s fellow human beings. We encourage you to participate in the experience of sacred worship at home, on TV, or using multimedia platforms.

deeper through discipleship,
stronger through through worship,
and larger through evangelism."

MORE THAN JUST FOLLOWING RULES....
“…in the end, to be Christian is not simply to follow rules and assent to propositions; to be Christian is to love in the form of the greatest commandment. Like being a dancer, it is to perform love in such a way that love (God) has seized our being.”
-Dr. Aristotle Papanikolaou
Aristotle Papanikolaou is Professor of Theology and the Archbishop Demetrios Chair in Orthodox Theology and Culture at Fordham University He is Co-Director of the Orthodox Christian Studies Center at Fordham University.
“Every temple of the Lord is a house of divine Presence and a house of prayer.
Every temple is also a house of peace. May the soul of all those who enter into this holy
temple to take part in the assembly of God, become itself a house of peace.”

The Work of Jesus Christ: “…it is our Orthodox teaching that the Church continues the work of Christ on earth. When laypeople sing in the choir, teach Sunday school, instruct their children to pray, etc., they are doing the work of the Church.”
- Fr. Stanley S. Harakas, Contemporary Moral Issues
“With us everything should be secondary compared to our concern with children, and their upbringing in the instruction of the Lord."

WHAT IS CHRISTIAN STEWARDSHIP?
Stewardship is what a person does after saying "I believe," as proof of that belief.
