Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Third Mode. Psalm 46.6,1.
Sing praises to our God, sing praises.
Verse: Clap your hands, all you nations.

The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:16-18; 7:1.

Brethren, you are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.

Gospel Reading

Sunday of the Canaanite
The Reading is from Matthew 15:21-28

At that time, Jesus went to the district of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a Canaanite woman from that region came out and cried, "Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David; my daughter is severely possessed by a demon." But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came and begged him, saying, "Send her away, for she is crying after us." He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." And he answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly.

Theodore the Tyro, Great Martyr

Orthros 8:45am, Divine Liturgy 10am

Saint Theodore who was from Amasia of Pontus, contested during the reign of Maximian (286-305). He was called Tyro, from the Latin Tiro, because he was a newly enlisted recruit. When it was reported that he was a Christian, he boldly confessed Christ; the ruler, hoping that he would repent, gave him time to consider the matter more completely and then give answer. Theodore gave answer by setting fire to the temple of Cybele, the "mother of the gods," and for this he suffered a martyr's death by fire. See also the First Saturday of the Fast.

Make New Friends the Old-Fashioned Way

Please consider joining the pen pal initiative which was brought to us by the National Philoptochos. Children of all ages (3-18), please consider connecting to someone elderly or homebound the old fashioned way (via snail mail). You can draw a picture, write a note and ask a question. This will hopefully be the beginning of a new friendship, a learning opportunity and a moment to experience true empathy and grace. Please contact Michaele Giannoutsos at michkg76@gmail.com to be connected with a member of our parish! Thank you and looking forward to hearing how much happiness this brings to both the one who sends the letter and the one that receives it.

Youth/Family Ministry

Be the Bee #164 - The Ministry of Listening

Jesus describes the Kingdom as a feast: a place where we're all seen and known. But life is full of disconnection and loneliness. Those moments aren't a taste of the Kingdom.

While we'll never be able to solve every problem, we can all be better listeners. And we can learn to do that with the simple techniques of active listening.

The ministry of listening is something we often overlook. But it's a simple way to make the Kingdom present for people and give them a taste of God's love.
