ANNOUNCEMENTS
PHILOPTOCHOS BAKING WORKSHOP: Philoptochos will be having a baking workshop at which they will be making pastry for their November pick-up trays fundraiser. Workshop will be held on Thursday, November 11th at 11am in the Community Center.
CHRISTMAS BREAD: Philoptochos will once again be making their delicious Christmas Bread. Please place your order by Sunday, November 28th. To place your order, please call Elaine Sioras at 401-617-7950 or 401-724-1031 or email Elaine at elainesioras@gmail.com by the November 28th deadline. The price is $12 per loaf. Pick-ups will be on Saturday, December 18th from 10am to 1pm and on Sunday, December 19th after church.
ADULT CLASS SEMINAR: As part of our introduction to Greek civilization, this Fall we will continue our study in Greek tragedy with the reading of Sophocles' classic masterpiece, Oedipus the King. Classes take place on Mondays from 7pm to 8:30pm and began on October 18th and will continue through and including December 13th. If you are interested in participating in this class or if you need more information, please call John Lyssikatos at 401-728-4452.
UPCOMING LECTURE: On Tuesday, November 30th, the adult Greek class is sponsoring a lecture with Dr. Stephen Carr on the subject:
“Nature or Nurture; What makes us who we are?
A Selective History of Genetics from Pythagoras to Epigenetics”
The presentation will be a selective history of genetics and how the concept of inherited features have evolved over the ages, beginning with Pythagoras and ending with the contemporary idea of epigenetics, that isn’t Nature OR Nurture that makes us who we are; it’s BOTH! The lecture will be offered in the Community Center of the Assumption at 7pm on Tuesday, November 30th, and it will also be Zoomed.
