TRISAGION TODAY: 5-years for William (Bill) Leaf

We Welcome GOMoP SUMMER CAMP STAFF: This Sunday we welcome many of the staff members of our Metropolis Summer Camp Program as their debrief will take place at our Church this Sunday. Please welcome these dedicated and fun individuals that hail from all over our Metropolis.

FOCUS SUMMER SUPPER SANDWICH: FOCUS offers sandwiches each Summer Thursday 4-5pm to those in need at St. John Church Hall in Beaver Falls starting June 27^th. They are looking for volunteers for two different shifts: Light Food Prep 2-4pm and Serving & Clean-up 4-5:30pm. Please contact Joni Volitich at 412-480-2388 or joniv@johndaniel.com

GREEK SCHOOL: Planning is underway to restart Greek School beginning in the Fall of 2019. If you are interested, please contact the Church Office. As of right now, we have a lot of interest from 4 year olds to 10 year olds.

YOUTH SAFETY UPDATE: Our parish will begin in the process of making sure we are compliant with the Archdiocese Policies for the Safety of Children and Youth. If you plan on working with youth in the Church (advising, coaching, teaching, leading, driving, etc) in the 2019-2020 Ecclesiastical year (Sept-Aug) here in our parish, Metropolis, or anywhere in our Archdiocese, you should contact either Fr. Anastasios or Jackie Bennis, our parish Yout Safety Administrator. There will be more information to come on how and when we begin this process which will include Registering, Training, and Background Check Screening, as well as continuing our compliance to our Metropolis Youth Safety requirements (fingerprinting, etc). FESTIVAL SETUP PICNIC—Sunday, July 21^st: All parishioners are welcome to come to church and then stay after liturgy to help in some of the final preparations and setup for the festival. Lunch will be provided for those that are there helping with the setup, just as in past years. We will be setting up the following areas: the tents, the grille area, the tables and chairs, pastry, food line, and boutique, as well as the cupping of pastries, and more! We need all the help we can to help make this festival a success. If anyone would like to bring fruit or dessert, or has any other questions, please contact Raina Kanakis in person or at 724-777-1580.

HELLENIC DANCERS: All groups will practice during the Set Up Picnic at various opportunities. Check for updates via text.

July 19^th – 6pm: Vespers & Orthros. July 20^th – 9am: Hours & Divine Liturgy w/ Lunch to follow. Visitors should be modestly dressed: women should wear long skirts and men long pants.

Titus, my son, the saying is sure. I desire you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to apply themselves to good deeds; these are excellent and profitable to men. But avoid stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels over the law, for they are unprofitable and futile. As for a man who is factious, after admonishing him once or twice, have nothing more to do with him, knowing that such a person is perverted and sinful; he is self-condemned.

When I send Artemas or Tychicos to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there. Do your best to speed Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way; see that they lack nothing. And let our people learn to apply themselves to good deeds, so as to help cases of urgent need, and not to be unfruitful.

Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the 4th Ecumenical Council

On the Sunday that falls from the 13th to the 19th of the present month, we chant the Service to the 630 Holy and God-bearing Fathers who came together for the 4th Ecumenical Council who assembled in Chalcedon in 451, to condemn Eutyches, who taught that there was only one nature, the divine, in Christ after the Incarnation, and Dioscorus, Patriarch of Alexandria, who illegally received Eutyches back into communion and deposed Saint Flavian, Patriarch of Constantinople, who had excommunicated Eutyches.

In the Slavic tradition, on this Sunday, the Fathers of the first six Ecumenical Councils are all commemorated.

Aquila the Apostle among the 70

Saint Aquila, who was from Pontus of Asia Minor, was a Jew by race and a tent-maker by trade. In the year 52 he and his wife Priscilla were in Corinth when Saint Paul first came there. They gave him hospitality, and the Apostle remained with them for many days, himself working at the same trade as they (Acts 18:2-3). And having believed in Christ through Paul, they followed him from that time on, working together with him and suffering perils with him for the sake of the preaching of the Gospel, as he himself testifies concerning them in his Epistle to the Romans, saying: "Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my helpers in Christ Jesus: who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the nations" (Rom. 16:3-4). When and where they reposed is unknown.

"But whosoever shall do and teach," said He, "shall be called great." For not to ourselves alone, should we be profitable, but to others also; since neither is the reward as great for him who guides himself aright, as for one who with himself adds also another.

Since he who cannot teach himself, yet attempts to set others right, will have many to ridicule him. Or rather such a one will have no power to teach at all, his actions uttering their voice against him.
