Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Grave Tone

By means of Your Cross, O Lord, You abolished death. To the robber You opened Paradise. The lamentation of the myrrh-bearing women You transformed, and You gave Your Apostles the order to proclaim to all that You had risen, O Christ our God, and granted the world Your great mercy.

Seasonal Kontakion in the 1st Tone

When You come down to the earth, O God, in Your glory, all things will cower tremulous, and a river of fire will draw before Your Judgment Seat; the books shall be opened up, and public knowledge will things hidden be. Rescue me, then, I pray, from unquenchable fire, and count me worthy to stand at Your right hand, O You, the most righteous Judge.

Judgment Sunday (Meatfare Sunday)

The foregoing two parables -- especially that of the Prodigal Son -- have presented to us God's extreme goodness and love for man. But lest certain persons, putting their confidence in this alone, live carelessly, squandering upon sin the time given them to work out their salvation, and death suddenly snatch them away, the most divine Fathers have appointed this day's feast commemorating Christ's impartial Second Coming, through which we bring to mind that God is not only the Friend of man, but also the most righteous Judge, Who recompenses to each according to his deeds.

It is the aim of the holy Fathers, through bringing to mind that fearful day, to rouse us from the slumber of carelessness unto the work of virtue, and to move us to love and compassion for our brethren. Besides this, even as on the coming Sunday of Cheese-fare we commemorate Adam's exile from the Paradise of delight -- which exile is the beginning of life as we know it now -- it is clear that today's is reckoned the last of all feasts, because on the last day of judgment, truly, everything of this world will come to an end.

All foods, except meat and meat products, are allowed during the week that follows this Sunday.

The Holy Martyrs Eutropius, Cleonicus, and Basiliscus

The Martyrs, who were from Amasia, were fellow soldiers and kinsmen of Saint Theodore the Tyro (see Feb. 17). They were betrayed to the Governor Asclepiodotus as Christians, during the reign of Diocletian (284-305). After many torments, Eutropius and Cleonicus were crucified; Basiliscus was not slain together with them, but was shut up in prison, in the hope that with time he might change his mind and sacrifice to the idols. He was beheaded on May 22; see also the account on that day.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. 4th Tone. Psalm 146.5;134.3.
Great is our Lord, and great is his power.
Verse: Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 8:8-13; 9:1-2.

Brethren, food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.

Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? Are not you my workmanship in the Lord? If to others I am not an apostle, at least I am to you; for you are the seal of my apostleship in the Lord.

Gospel Reading

Judgment Sunday (Meatfare Sunday)
The Reading is from Matthew 25:31-46

The Lord said, "When the Son of man comes in his glory and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats, and he will place the sheep at his right hand, but the goats at the left. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.' Then he will say to those at his left hand, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.' And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

A Word from Fr. John:

“Lenten Gardening Tips...”

“The new life you have just entered has been likened to that of a gardener. The soil he tills he has received from God, as well as the seed and the sun’s warmth and the rain and the power to grow. But the work is entrusted to him.

If the husbandman wishes to have a rich harvest, he must work early and late, weed and aerate, water and spray... but even so, the harvest ultimately depends wholly on the elements, that is, on God.

The garden that we have undertaken to tend and watch over is the field of our own heart; the harvest is eternal life.”

                        – The Way of the Ascetics, Tito Colliander

Parish Council Announcements:

  • March 11 at 6:30 pm Parish Council Meeting
  • Please keep in prayer your 2019 Parish Council Members dedicated with Father John in service:  Christopher Burke, Melisa Colburn, Mikae Geatanos, Jeff Kauttu (Secretary), Margo Kelley (President), Nick Lekas (Vice President), Nicola Lykam (Treasurer), Gary Peterson, and Carmela Tardo.
  • The Holy Trinity Parish Council met with His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios on Sat., February 9, to discuss having a full-time priest.  His Eminence inquired about our community and was pleased to learn that our parish is “poised” for a full-time priest.  He noted, “The parish has to become the focus: the priest takes care of the parishioners; the parishioners take care of the priest.”  We must continue to show the spirit of love; to be a welcoming and warm community.

In order to be ready for a full-time priest, certain items need to be in place, including resources to support a priest and to strengthen ourselves spiritually.

  • Save the Dates – April 12 & 13:  The entire Parish Council is excited to announce that Bishop Sevastianos of Zelon will be our guest.  Bishop Sevastianos will hear confessions on Friday and will be leading a whole parish retreat on Saturday, focused on the Parable of the Prodigal Son.  Please plan on attending with your families and bring others, as it will be a  beautiful opportunity to grow and share in faith, especially in preparation for Holy Week and Pascha (April 28th).  A detailed schedule will soon be announced.  Through assignment and blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios, the Parish Council will work forwardly with His Grace Sabastianos and key ministry leaders throughout the Atlanta Metropolis.  The upcoming Lenten Retreat will serve as a first opportunity for Bishop will serve as Sebastianos to come to know us, while we come to know Him.  Pray that by and through our full parish participation, every member and member family will be drawn more closely and, like the Prodigal Son to his father, return into loving arms of Christ through the increased and ongoing Christ-centered and life-saving ministries of the Church.

12th Annual Fashion Show:The Philoptochos would like to thank everyone for their help with the 12th annual Fashion Show.  It was a great success due to the efforts of our entire church family who helped with donating items for the raffles and door prizes, the cleaning of the hall and chairs, the cooking, the modeling, the serving, and the cleanup afterward.  We can be proud that we welcomed so many ladies from outside of our parish, to extend Greek hospitality and show them our beautiful church.  Many ladies commented that they could see how happy we seem working together, which is a compliment to all of us.

Iconography Committee Update:  As announced with great joy, we are ready to go forward with iconography of the Pantocrator and Prophets in the dome of our church.  Hopefully it will be completed before Pascha.  As a parish family, we are grateful for the generous contributions and prayers that made this possible.  The next phase of the Iconography Project will include Evangelists on the pendentives and medallions of the Apostles on the band below the dome; examples are displayed on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall.

Buy-a-Brick:Ordering bricks in 1 week!  Please send in your orders for commemorative bricks before Monday, March 11, 2019.  Order forms are in the fellowship hall, in the narthex, on our website.  Please mail your completed form and check to the church, or give to any member of the Parish Council on Sunday.  We will contact you before the order is placed to confirm the engraving.  If you have questions, or cannot find a brick paver that you previously ordered, please contact the office, 904.829.0504 or Holy3GOC@gmail.com, or contact Carmela at 904.471.2490 or ctardo@bellsouth.net.

Stewardship – a Pattern of Caring:Giving is a habit that begins with a commitment.  Becoming an active steward requires a conscious decision to actively support the needs of the church.  The commitment card we offer to Holy Trinity each year encourages us to give regularly.  There are extra cards in church, or you can call the church office.

Bulletin Submission:Please submit your articles weekly by Wednesday, or at the latest, Thursday. Please note that all submissions will be reviewed and edited by Father John and Margo Kelley.

Weekly Offering:

  • Sacrificial Offerings - Weekly Offering:
