Sunday Orthros 9:00am Divine Liturgy 10:00am Fr. John Hays, Interim Priest
The name Thomas means, "twin." He was one of the Twelve, a Galilean by birth. Sophroneus (not the famous Patriarch of Jerusalem [7th Century, celebrated March 11], but a friend of Jerome's), quoted also by Jerome, says that Saint Thomas preached to the Parthians, Pesians, Medes, Hyrcanians, Bactrians, and neighbouring nations. According to Heracleon, the Apostle died a natural death; according to other accounts, he was martyred at Meliapur His tomb was known by Saint John Chrysostom to be at Edessa in Syria, to which city his holy relics may have been translated from India in the fourth century.
Prokeimenon. Grave Tone. Psalm 28.11,1.
The Lord will give strength to his people.
Verse: Bring to the Lord, O sons of God, bring to the Lord honor and glory.
The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:1-10.
Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
3rd Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 7:11-16
At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"
A Word from Fr. John:
From the Orthros hymns this morning:
What shall we give to the Lord in return for all that He has rendered to us? For us did God come among men.
For our corrupted nature did the Logos [the Word] become flesh and dwell among us.
The Benefactor came to the ungrateful; the Liberator to the captives;
The Sun of Righteousness to those who sit in darkness. He who is dispassionate suffered on the cross;
The Light shone in Hell. He who is Life has trampled on death.
For the fallen He is the resurrection.
Let us cry out to Him, Glory to You our God.
You followed Christ, O Apostle Thomas, and you disregarded the world;
You hid His teachings in your inner room, and you became an Apostle.
Then you went among the Gentiles, whose souls were darkened by error and the sinful passions,
And with the Savior's commandments you enlightened them, to believe in the consubstantial Trinity.
Fully illumined by the divine fire of the knowledge of God, you imitated the Master in all things,
As a lawful disciple, O Apostle Thomas.
Using the fishing rod of the Cross, you pulled the souls of the pious out of the deep sea of ignorance.
And with the fishing net of the Holy Spirit, you caught the minds of those in India that were in darkness.
We pray you ever implore Christ God, also to deliver us from the bedarkened face of the enemy, and to save our souls.

Sunday School News:
The success of Holy Trinity Sunday School begins with every person and every family living and practicing the Orthodox Faith on a daily basis. Children look toward their parents, friends and teachers as guides throughout their lives. The well rounded and theologically based lessons on liturgical worship, the Bible, and prayer help them grow spiritually. The Sunday School setting is an excellent place for children to get to know one another, build relationships, and learn what it means to be a part of a community. Children stay in the Liturgy with parents and attend Sunday School directly after Holy Communion. Additionally we ask that each and every parishioner include our teachers and students in your daily prayers. When we have a relationship of absolute trust with Christ, we are happy and joyful… this is the secret. Then we can exclaim with St. Paul, For me to live is Christ and to die is gain and It is no longer I who live, Christ lives in me. Adult Bible Study:
The adult Bible study on the Gospel of John meets in the classroom opposite the men’s room. The class starts 15 minutes after the start of coffee hour, and is led by Michael Colburn. We are using the epic 2003 movie “The Gospel of John” directed by Philip Seville. This movie uses the text of the Gospel of John from the Good News Bible verbatim—no extra words added and none left out. This Sunday we are studying John 1.19-28. The next class will be the Sunday after the festival. We will study John 1.29-34. The syllabus and study questions for each week are available at https://thecolburns.us/classes/john. Also check there for any last minute announcements about the class.
