Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Fourth Mode

When the women Disciples of the Lord had learned from the Angel the joyful message of the Resurrection and had rejected the ancestral decision, they cried aloud to the Apostles triumphantly: Death has been despoiled, Christ God has risen, granting His great mercy to the world.

Apolytikion for 11th Sun. of Luke in the Second Mode

You justified the forefathers in faith, and through them betrothed yourself, aforetime, to the Church taken from out of the Gentiles. The saints boast in glory. For from their seed, there exists a noble crop, who is she who without seed has given You birth. By their intercessions, O Christ our God, save our souls.

Apolytikion for the Church in the Plagal Fourth Mode

Blessed are You, O Christ our God; you made the fishermen all-wise by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit, and through them you drew the world into your net. O Lover of mankind, glory to You.

Evloyitós i, Hristé o Theós imón; o pansófous tous aliís anadhíxas, katapémpsas aftís to pnévma to áyion, ke dhi aftón tin ikouménin sayinéfsas, Filánthrope, dhóxa si.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Third Mode

On this day the Virgin cometh to the cave to give birth to * God the Word ineffably, * Who was before all the ages. * Dance for joy, O earth, on hearing * the gladsome tidings; * with the Angels and the shepherds now glorify Him * Who is willing to be gazed on * as a young Child Who * before the ages is God.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Fourth Mode. Daniel 3.26,27.
Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers.
Verse: For you are just in all you have done.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 3:4-11.

Brethren, when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all.

Gospel Reading

11th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 14:16-24

The Lord said this parable: "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time of the banquet he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, 'Come; for all is now ready.' But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go to examine them; I pray you, have me excused.' And another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.' And the servant said, 'Sir, what you commanded has been done, and there is still room.' And the master said to the servant, 'Go out to the highways and hedges, and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste my banquet. For many are called, but few are chosen.'"

An Opportunity to Bring Some Christmas Joy!!!  Mary Pasayan is a longtime member of Holy Trinity who now resides in an assisted living here in Nashville.  She is 96 years old and her daughters, Leslie Richard and Jackie Phillips, have said how much she loves getting mail.   She is in a wheelchair and wheels herself to the mailbox each day, in hopes that she will get some mail.  If any of you would like to send Mary a Christmas card and bring one of the oldest members of our Church family some Christmas joy, her information is as follows: Morningside of Belmont, 1710 Magnolia Blvd., Nashville, TN, 37212, ATTN: Mary Pasayan #212.

The iconography committee is continuing with fundraising for the 2nd phase of iconography which will be installed in October of 2019.  We are thankful to the numerous parishioners who have signed up to purchase all available medallions of Saints.  May God reward you a hundred-fold!  We are, however, still in need of additional funding to cover the expenses associated with this phase.  Because of the generosity of those who contributed to the iconography fund over the last five years, we have a limited amount of money to draw from in case we have less than full sponsorship.  Ideally, though, every icon will have one or several sponsors.  We would like to have all our parish family participate in this effort in some way, together returning to our Church the blessings and gifts we have received from the Lord.  Please consider: Giving individually, as a family, or as a group – You may choose to donate one of the many scenes from the Miracles of Christ, or the Life of the Theotokos.  Making a general donation – If you are unable to make a donation for a specific Icon, we encourage you to make any size donation to the General Iconography Fund.  This will help cover the expenses attached to the preparation and installation of the icons.  Donations can be made at any time.  Please write “Iconography Fund” in the memo line of your check.  Please visit the iconography table in the Hall after Liturgy on Sundays or see one of the iconography committee members (John Billo, David Taber & Anna Troussas) to make a donation and/or for more information.

2019 STEWARDSHIP- By this time everyone should have received their mailing from the Stewardship committee with a letter and a 2019 Stewardship card.  Please take the time to sit down and fill out the card and pray over what you feel you can give to help support and run Our Church.  On average it takes $1500.00 a day to keep Holy Trinity up and running.  Your gracious Stewardship is a reflection on the love and community that we have here at Holy Trinity.  We are truly Blessed.  If you have any questions and/or would like more information regarding Stewardship, please see Georgette or Peter Kennedy or any Parish Council member.  Blank 2019 Stewardship pledge cards will also be available for pickup in the Narthex.  THANK YOU for your support.

Philoptochos has soft white wheatberry (for use in making kollyva) for sale.  The bags are 2 lbs and are for sale for $3.00.  Anyone interested, please see Alexandra Pappas.

If you would like to host a coffee hour, please contact the Church office at (615) 333-1047.

Our Righeous Mother Blessed Empress Theophania

Saint Theophania, who was born in Constantinople, was of royal lineage. Instructed in letters, and adorned with many virtues, she was united in marriage to Emperor Leo the Wise (reigned 886-912). But counting the glory of the earthly kingdom as nought, she spent her nights and days in serving God with psalms and hymns and prayers, working various good deeds until she surrendered her spirit to God in peace, while still in her youth, being, according to some, about twenty years of age, according to others, twenty-seven. Her holy relics are still preserved in the patriarchal church in Constantinople as a source of healing for those that draw nigh with faith and longing. She was also the builder of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropigeal Monastery of St. Anastasia the Protector from Potions in Chalke (883).
