EXAPOSTEILARION OF THE FOREFEAST MODE 2
How can the river's streams receive You, Lord who loves humanity?
For You brought the seas and rivers to being from non-existence. Also how can
the Forerunner dare to extend his hand and touch Your immaculate head,
O Word. With fear and awe, O Master, we hymn Your poverty's grandeur.
STICHERA OF THE FOREFEAST MODE 2
God, having taken flesh, is seen by those on earth now; the light appeared and was seen by those who sat in darkness; and unto all has grace shone forth.
DOXASTICON OF THE FOREFEAST MODE PL 4
O Baptist John, who recognized me as the Lamb when you were still in the womb: serve me now in the river, and with Angels minister. Reach out with your hand and touch my immaculate head. And when you see the mountains trembling and the Jordan turning back, cry out with them, "O God incarnate of the Virgin for our salvation, glory to You, O Lord."
HYMNS FROM THE GREAT BLESSING OF THE WATERS
The voice of the Lord is upon the waters, crying out and saying, "Come all, and receive the Spirit of wisdom, the Spirit of understanding, the Spirit of the fear of God, yes, of Christ, Who has come in His epiphany."
Today the substance of water is made holy, for the Master is washed in the Jordan. When the River sees Him, it stops its flow and bursts forth.
You have come to the River as a man, O Christ our King; and You urgently request to receive a Baptism befitting a servant, at the hands of the Forerunner, all because of our sins, O good Lord who loves humanity.
