Whilst the tomb was sealed, Thou, O Life, didst shine forth from the grave, O Christ God; and whilst the doors were shut, Thou didst come unto Thy disciples, O Resurrection of all, renewing through them an upright Spirit in us according to Thy great mercy.

Parish News

Holy Trinity’s Mission Statement:  To worship and glorify God, by promoting the teachings, of the Greek Orthodox Faith. To encourage all members' participation through our Greek culture, educational programs,   community outreach and fundraising activities while serving God, our community and humanity      

Per the directives from the Archdiocese and Metropolis all services in the parish are being done with only the priest and selected staff to help with the service.  Doors will be locked and no one will be allowed in.  Please watch services at www.holytrinitytoledo.com/live.  No one will be allowed into the church complex unless given permission by the parish priest.  That includes all church organizations and outside organizations.  Furthermore, all aspects of the complex are included in this prohibition (the church proper, social halls, Church School areas, cultural centers, etc.).  Please note that the parish priest will still perform necessary pastoral functions.  However, he may be limited in visiting nursing homes, senior facilities, and even hospitals.

In order to help reduce the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we have entered into a time in which we all must take extraordinary measures to do our part. We will notify you promptly as we adjust to this developing situation.

HOLY TRINITY LENTEN EVENT Sponsored by Philoptochos has been postponed

Raftopoulos scholarship applications are available and are due by May 1st.

Philoptochos Scholarships available - Qualifying high school seniors can apply for a service scholarship. If interested, please email Stephanie Berardinelli at mrs.berardinelli0728@gmail.com. The deadline to apply is April 30th.    Also if interested, Philoptochos Metropolis is offering the Florence G. Stefanou Memorial Scholarship of $1,000 to qualifying high school seniors OR undergraduate college students attending an accredited college, university, or trade school.

Philoptochos stewardship is now due. Both the National and District Philoptochos have extended the Per Capita Committment due date to April 30th.  Please submit your stewardship as soon as possible so that we can be current with our obligations and continue our mission of helping those in need. AHEPA/Daughters Scholarships – The local, District and National scholarships are now available for submission. The local scholarship can be accessed at www.toledo.buckeyedistrict11.org and has a due date of April 19.  The District scholarship application is available at www.bsf.buckeyedistrict11.org and is due March 31.  As a reminder, the District scholarship DOES NOT have a minimum GPA requirement.  Please refer to www.ahepa.org for details on the National scholarship.

Daughters of Penelope and Philoptochos will be partnering to collect non-perishable food items for a new church pantry.  These food items will be made available to our neighbors that are in need.  For the next two weeks, we will focus on collecting jars of peanut butter and boxes of crackers in a well-marked container in the entryway hall of the Building.  We would love for our entire church community to participate in donating these food items.  Thank you!

ALTAR FLOWERS ARE NEEDED FOR July 15th.   The cost is $50 for 2 beautiful vases.  It’s a great way to show your support in honor or memory of someone and beautify our altar too!  Call the Church office if you’re interested.

Thomas Sunday

Though the doors were shut at the dwelling where the disciples were gathered for fear of the Jews on the evening of the Sunday after the Passover, our Saviour wondrously entered and stood in their midst, and greeted them with His customary words, "Peace be unto you." Then He showed unto them His hands and feet and side; furthermore, in their presence, He took some fish and a honeycomb and ate before them, and thus assured them of His bodily Resurrection. But Thomas, who was not then present with the others, did not believe their testimony concerning Christ's Resurrection, but said in a decisive manner, "Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe." Wherefore after eight days, that is, on this day, when the disciples were again gathered together and Thomas was with them, the Lord Jesus came while the doors were shut, as He did formerly. Standing in their midst, He said, "Peace be unto you"; then He said to Thomas, "Bring hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and bring hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not unbelieving, but believing."

And Thomas, beholding and examining carefully the hands and side of the Master, cried out with faith, "My Lord and my God." Thus he clearly proclaimed the two natures - human and divine - of the God-man (Luke 24:36-49; John 20:19-29).

This day is called Antipascha (meaning "in the stead of Pascha," not "in opposition to Pascha") because with this day, the first Sunday after Pascha, the Church consecrates every Sunday of the year to the commemoration of Pascha, that is, the Resurrection.

Basil the Holy Martyr Bishop of Amasea

This Saint was Bishop of Amasia in Pontus, in the days of Licinius (reigned 308-324), fellow Emperor and brother-in-law of Saint Constantine the Great. Licinius' wife Constantia, sister of Saint Constantine, had as handmaid a virgin named Glaphyra. When it became known that Licinius had conceived a sinful desire for her. Constantia secretly sent Glaphyra away to the East. Coming to Amasia, she took refuge with Saint Basileus. When Licinius learned of this, he furiously commanded that both be brought before him. When the soldiers came for them, however, Saint Glaphyra had already departed to the Lord; she is also commemorated this day. Saint Basileus was taken alone to Nicomedia, where he was beheaded. His body was cast into the sea, but through divine revelation was found again and brought back to Amasia.

The reading is from Acts of the Apostles 5:12-20.

In those days, many signs and wonders were done among the people by the hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. None of the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high honor. And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, so that they even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and pallets, that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. The people also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflicted with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. But the high priest rose up and all who were with him, that is, the party of the Sadducees, and filled with jealousy they arrested the apostles and put them in the common prison. But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out and said, "Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this Life."

The Reading is from John 20:19-31

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them: "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe."

Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

Wisdom of the Fathers

For though the Apostles themselves modestly ascribe it all to this cause, declaring that they did these things in the name of Christ, yet at the same time the life and noble conduct of the men helped to produce this effect. "And believers were more added unto the Lord, multitudes both of men and women." Observe, how he now no longer tells the number of them that believe; at such a rate was the faith making way even to an immense multitude, and so widely was the Resurrection proclaimed. So then "the people magnified them:" but they were now no longer lightly to be despised as once they were: for in a little moment, at a single turn of the scale, such have been the effects produced by the fisherman and by the publican! Earth was become a heaven, for manner of life, for boldness of speech, for wonders, for all besides; like Angels were they looked upon with wonder:
