You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us.
Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 3:4-11.

Brethren, when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all.

When he saw them he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus's feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then said Jesus: "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" And he said to him: "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well."

Let us worship the Word, O ye faithful, praising Him that with the Father and the Spirit is co-beginningless God, Who was born of a pure Virgin that we all be saved; for He was pleased to mount the Cross in the flesh that He assumed, accepting thus to endure death. Having met the Savior, therefore, the lepers earnestly besought Him to free them from their misery, and called Him Master, that is. Teacher. No one pitied them when suffering this malady, but He Who had appeared on earth for this very reason, and had become man that He might show pity to all, He was moved with compassion for them, and had mercy on them.

And why did He not rather say, I will, be you cleansed; as He did in the case of another leper, but commanded them rather to show themselves to the priests? It was because the law gave directions to this effect to those who were delivered from leprosy (Lev. 14-2); for it commanded them to show themselves to the priests, and to offer a sacrifice for their cleansing.

Anthony the Great

Saint Anthony, the Father of monks, was born in Egypt in 251 of pious parents who departed this life while he was yet young. On hearing the words of the Gospel: "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell what thou hast, and give to the poor" (Matt. 19:21), he immediately put it into action. Distributing to the poor all he had, and fleeing from all the turmoil of the world, he departed to the desert. The manifold temptations he endured continually for the span of twenty years are incredible. His ascetic struggles by day and by night, whereby he mortified the uprisings of the passions and attained to the height of dispassion, surpass the bounds of nature; and the report of his deeds of virtue drew such a multitude to follow him that the desert was transformed into a city, while he became, so to speak, the governor, lawgiver, and master-trainer of all the citizens of this newly-formed city.

The cities of the world also enjoyed the fruit of his virtue. When the Christians were being persecuted and put to death under Maximinus in 312, he hastened to their aid and consolation. When the Church was troubled by the Arians, he went with zeal to Alexandria in 335 and struggled against them in behalf of Orthodoxy. During this time, by the grace of his words, he also turned many unbelievers to Christ.

Saint Anthony began his ascetic life outside his village of Coma in Upper Egypt, studying the ways of the ascetics and holy men there, and perfecting himself in the virtues of each until he surpassed them all. Desiring to increase his labors, he departed into the desert, and finding an abandoned fortress in the mountain, he made his dwelling in it, training himself in extreme fasting, unceasing prayer, and fierce conflicts with the demons. Here he remained, as mentioned above, about twenty years. Saint Athanasius the Great, who knew him personally and wrote his life, says that he came forth from that fortress "initiated in the mysteries and filled with the Spirit of God." Afterwards, because of the press of the faithful, who deprived him of his solitude, he was enlightened by God to journey with certain Bedouins, until he came to a mountain in the desert near the Red Sea, where he passed the remaining part of his life.

Saint Athanasius says of him that "his countenance had a great and wonderful grace. This gift also he had from the Saviour. For if he were present in a great company of monks, and any one who did not know him previously wished to see him, immediately coming forward he passed by the rest, and hurried to Anthony, as though attracted by his appearance. Yet neither in height nor breadth was he conspicuous above others, but in the serenity of his manner and the purity of his soul." So Passing his life, and becoming an example of virtue and a rule for monastics, he reposed on January 17 in the year 356, having lived altogether some 105 years.

Covid Update

COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

All faithful must be careful to protect those who are not vaccinated, including those with pre-existing conditions and children under the age of twelve. If you are not feeling well or have any symptoms that are associated with Covid-19, please stay home and seek medical attention. More importantly, notify Fr. Jason by calling the Church office.

Our goal at Kimisis is to provide a safe and healthy worship experience for our parish family as we implement the current safety guidelines from our civil and ecclesiastical authorities.

We continue to clean and disinfect the church between each service, require masks, hand washing/sanitizing, and social distancing.

 

Guidelines for Attending Divine Worship

 

MASKS 

At this time, we are following the State of New York’s protocol for the wearing of safety masks when indoors.

 

Please be mindful of the current statewide mask mandate will be in effect until January 15th

 

UPON ARRIVAL

Social distancing begins when you enter the Church. Please do not congregate, and socialize in the narthex. Light your candle, pray, and be seated. Please venerate Icons by bowing and doing the sign of the cross. No touching or kissing.

 

FOLLOW THE SIGNS

Please follow signs to posted entry points and maintain distancing via the ground markers. These have been prepared in advance to provide safe social distancing and need to be respected for everyone’s well-being.

 

SEATING

Seating has been designed to adhere to social distancing requirements. Only members of the same family may sit together without distancing between them. Please remain seated throughout the entire service, unless you must excuse yourself for a valid reason.

 

HOLY COMMUNION AND DISMISSAL

Holy Communion will be offered at the usual time in the usual manner. As Orthodox Christians, we believe that Holy Communion is the medicine of immortality. For any reason, if you would like to receive Holy Communion privately, please inform Fr. Jason.

Please remember the following:

  • Please approach the line in an orderly manner. 
  • Proceed through the Communion line with respect to Social Spacing
  • Remove your mask below your chin before approaching the Chalice.
  • Receive the Body and Blood in a natural manner from the spoon. Do not simply leave your mouth open or do anything else to attempt to "avoid the spoon." This can cause the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ to spill. 

Please be patient with your brothers and Sisters in Christ. Your parish council is doing their best to guide everyone through this difficult time.

Everyone at Kimisis is essential. This means that we must show love and respect one another by exercising reasonable caution. The most important thing that we can do is to love God together by praying with, and for one another!

Philoptochos

 

The benevolent works of Philoptochos are a continuation of Christ’s ministry on earth.  We have an opportunity, through our participation in the ministries and programs of Philoptochos, to return our time, talents, and resources back to God.

Another purpose of Philoptochos is to help the Church with its many ministries. Philoptochos is an organization of women who enjoy the fellowship and spiritual enrichment of working together as Orthodox Christians. 

Our chapter meets monthly in our church hall. Fundraisers, activities, and service projects are planned for our monthly meetings. Our chapter also recognizes that evening meetings are not always the best time for all members. Special gatherings may also be scheduled at certain times, and will be announced in advance.

Many thanks also goes out to everyone who participated in our quilt raffle, and our clothing, shoe & food drive!

Stewardship

Is our giving compatible with both the expectations of God and the needs of Kimisis?

Kimisis is our spiritual home. It’s where we as a spiritual family gather for prayer, celebration, and healing. It is where we belong! 

Who said that managing a household is easy? Life is full of ups, and downs. We must make the best of every opportunity that God gives us. We must also remember to give thanks for the responsibility of stewardship.

As we enter the new year, please give prayerful consideration to the commitment of time, talent, and treasure. Remember, as grateful as we are for your financial contributions - we’re even more grateful for you!  It’s your desire to worship with us here at Kimisis, and your service to God that helps keep our mission alive.

Let us ask ourselves: Is our giving is compatible with the needs of Kimisis. As you may remember, with expenses that approach $22,000/mo, it is suggested that if possible, every family (i.e. stewardship unit) make a minimum contribution of $1,300/yr to the Church.

House Blessings

Please be aware that due to Covid-19, Fr. Jason will be blessing homes in a somewhat different manner to ensure the health and safety of everyone at Kimisis.

 

  • Please prepare the usual items in your home (A bowl of water, a towel, icon, candle or lamp,  etc.)

 

  • Fr. Jason will start and finish the service at the entryway of your home.

 

  • Please remember that he will not be able to stay for lunch, coffee, or other refreshments.

 

  • He will leave you with Holy Water from Kimisis.

 

  • Father Jason will using PPE at all times—Please do the same.
