Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 9:11-14.

BRETHREN, when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the Holy Place, taking not the blood of goats and calves but his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the sprinkling of defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a heifer sanctifies for the purification of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify your conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

At that time, Jesus took his twelve disciples, and he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles; and they will mock him, and spit upon him, and scourge him, and kill him; and after three days he will rise." And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him, and said to him, "Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you." And he said to them, "What do you want me to do for you?" And they said to him, "Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory." But Jesus said to them, "You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?" And they said to him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared." And when the ten heard it, they began to be indignant of James and John. And Jesus called them to him and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule over the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, παραλαβάνει ὁ Ἰησοῦς τοὺς δώδεκα μαθητάς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἤρξατο αὐτοῖς λέγειν τὰ μέλλοντα αὐτῷ συμβαίνειν, ὅτι ἰδοὺ ἀναβαίνομεν εἰς ῾Ιεροσόλυμα καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου παραδοθήσεται τοῖς ἀρχιερεῦσι καὶ γραμματεῦσι, καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτὸν θανάτῳ καὶ παραδώσουσιν αὐτὸν τοῖς ἔθνεσι, καὶ ἐμπαίξουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ μαστιγώσουσιν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐμπτύσουσιν αὐτῷ καὶ ἀποκτενοῦσιν αὐτόν, καὶ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρᾳ ἀναστήσεται. Although the stone was sealed by the Jews, and the soldiers guarded Your most pure body, You arose on the third day, O Savior, giving life to the world. Apolytikion for the Church in the First Mode

In birth, you preserved your virginity; in death, you did not abandon the world, O Theotokos. As mother of life, you departed to the source of life, delivering our souls from death by your intercessions.

 

Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Mode

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Sunday of St. Mary of Egypt

The memory of this Saint is celebrated on April 1, where her life is recorded. Since the end of the holy Forty Days is drawing nigh, it has been appointed for this day also, so that if we think it hard to practice a little abstinence forty days, we might be roused by the heroism of her who fasted in the wilderness forty-seven years; and also that the great loving-kindness of God, and His readiness to receive the repentant, might be demonstrated in very deed.

Covid Update

COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES

All faithful must be careful to protect those who are not vaccinated, including those with pre-existing conditions and children under the age of twelve. If you are not feeling well or have any symptoms that are associated with Covid-19, please stay home and seek medical attention. More importantly, notify Fr. Jason by calling the Church office.

Our goal at Kimisis is to provide a safe and healthy worship experience for our parish family as we implement the current safety guidelines from our civil and ecclesiastical authorities.

Philoptochos

 

The benevolent works of Philoptochos are a continuation of Christ’s ministry on earth.  We have an opportunity, through our participation in the ministries and programs of Philoptochos, to return our time, talents, and resources back to God.

Another purpose of Philoptochos is to help the Church with its many ministries. Philoptochos is an organization of women who enjoy the fellowship and spiritual enrichment of working together as Orthodox Christians. 

Our chapter meets monthly in our church hall. Fundraisers, activities, and service projects are planned for our monthly meetings. Our chapter also recognizes that evening meetings are not always the best time for all members. Special gatherings may also be scheduled at certain times, and will be announced in advance.

 

UKRAINE RELIEF FUND

On March 3, 2022, the Executive Board of the National Philoptochos Society unanimously approved an immediate emergency disbursement of $10,000 to IOCC to support humanitarian relief efforts in the emerging crisis in Ukraine. In addition, the Society is soliciting donations for a special, earmarked fund, the National Philoptochos Ukraine Relief Fund. Funds raised for this purpose will be distributed to IOCC to support their relief activities in the region. The generosity of Philoptochos is well known and much appreciated throughout the world. The people of Ukraine need our love and our support at this time and once again, Philoptochos will answer the plea. Please keep the victims, their families and loved ones in your prayers and please be as generous as possible. Stewardship

Is our giving compatible with both the expectations of God and the needs of Kimisis?

Kimisis is our spiritual home. It’s where we as a spiritual family gather for prayer, celebration, and healing. It is where we belong! 

Who said that managing a household is easy? Life is full of ups, and downs. We must make the best of every opportunity that God gives us. We must also remember to give thanks for the responsibility of stewardship.

As we enter the new year, please give prayerful consideration to the commitment of time, talent, and treasure. Remember, as grateful as we are for your financial contributions - we’re even more grateful for you!  It’s your desire to worship with us here at Kimisis, and your service to God that helps keep our mission alive.

Let us ask ourselves: Is our giving is compatible with the needs of Kimisis. As you may remember, with expenses that approach $22,000/mo, it is suggested that if possible, every family (i.e. stewardship unit) make a minimum contribution of $1,300/yr to the Church.

Today, April 5, 2022, His Eminence Arcbhishop Elpidophoros offered the invocation at the Investitures of Madeline Singas, Anthony Cannataro, and Shirley Troutman as Associate Judges of the New York State Court of Appeals. Judge Singas, who previously served as the District Attorney of Nassau County, is the first Greek-American to serve on the state's highest court.

As we continue to work towards our common goal of bringing our young people and families together,  please join us for the following activities that will be taking place today and in the coming weeks:

 

  • Remember to join us for our Lazarus Saturday retreat. We will have a pancake breakfast after Liturgy. Altar Boys and Myrrh bearing girls will have practices at that time. 

 

Camp St. Paul

AHEPA

GOLF OUTING

Our local AHEPA Chapter #158 will hold their 9th annual Golf Outing on July 25th at McCann Memorial Golf Course followed by a luncheon at the Hellenic Center.

AHEPA is looking for golfers to participate in the tournament, volunteers who can help with the event, as well as sponsors who are willing to purchase ads. $25.00 or more will go along way to helping make this event a success! 

Please make cheques payable to AHEPA and return them to the Church office. Please remember that 80% of proceeds go to Kimisis!

AHEPA will be honoring graduating High School Seniors once again. If you have a son or daughter who is graduating from high school this year, please provide this information to Steve Miller or any AHEPA member with the name and school of the student along with their plans for the coming year. A gift will be presented to them after Liturgy on a date to be determined.
