9:00am - Orthros and Divine Liturgy
Second Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from Mark 16:1-8
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back, for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.
Prokeimenon. First Mode. Psalm 32.22,1.
Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.
The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16.
Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
2nd Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 4:18-23
At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.
Ρω 2:10-16
The Family
My beloved in the Lord:
I would like to share with you some spiritual reflections on the family. Your family, a blessed gift from our Heavenly Father, is called by God to provide love and security, to nurture faith and hope. To do this, our Lord has provided your family with the Holy Church, a place where true relationships with God and one another are fostered and sustained. In fact, the attributes of the Holy Church that guide the community to life and salvation are essential to the well being of your family.
As the Holy Church gathers to worship God as a community of believers, your family needs to gather for worship in the home. As the Holy Church offers a witness of the presence of Christ in the world, your family is called to reveal His love in your relationships. As the Holy Church reaches out to serve those in need, your family is led by our Lord to offer service in your community. As the Holy Church teaches the true Faith, your family needs to be a place where each member grows in spiritual knowledge and understanding. As the Holy Church is a place of fellowship in Christ, your family can and should be characterized by friendship, trust and
respect.
Thus, “family as Church” affirms that the attributes of the Church, which have been revealed to us by God in Holy Scripture and though the Holy Church, can help you know what it means to be a family, a healthy family that lives in faith and love. “The family that prays together stays together.” Have a daily rule of prayer for your family. Pray daily for special occasions and needs and on family topics. The Holy Church will help you pray together as a family and personally when you or a family member needs to pray. The Holy Church will teach your family about the importance of frequent prayer, and guide you in how to pray.
It is my hope that our Lord guides you in connecting your family and the Holy Church together for the greater glory of God and the well being of His people. Praying that the grace and rich mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ dwell in your hearts and minds, directing your steps to every good deed that is well pleasing to God, I humbly remain,
With paternal love and blessings in the Lord,
Protopresbyter Panagiotis
