An Annual Trisagion Service will be held today for the repose of the soul of +Pantelis (Peter) Karaconstantis, beloved husband of Catherine devoted father of Peter Dardaganis (Ruth), Faye Paskas (Marty Blackwell), Erica Potosky (Ryan), Amanda Young (Aaron), Kia Paskas (John Meyer), Kayla Hunsicker (Kyle), and great-grandchildren.

FAITH KITCHEN: DOP/AHEPA is hosting Saturday August 28^th. One Saturday a month Saint Andrew Ministries are responsible to prepare and serve a meal at the Dover Soup Kitchen for people in need. You can help by donating to the cost of the meal, donating food items, sponsoring the meal in memory of a loved one, and/or volunteering to serve. The ministry cannot succeed without you!

To the Very Reverend and Reverend Clergy And the Esteemed Presidents of the Parish Councils of the Parishes located in the State of New Jersey

My Beloved,

I pray that this letter finds you well. It is with much disappointment that I write to you concerning the upcoming Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey Annual Holy Cross Celebration scheduled for Sunday, September 12, 2021. Unfortunately, we have received confirmation from the management of the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park that due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Paramount, which has been closed since the start of the pandemic, will not be reopening in the near future. Therefore, we will not be able to host our Annual Holy Cross Celebration as we are accustom to.

Please know that since we are unable to celebrate the Divine Liturgy all together at the Paramount, all of the parishes will be OPEN that Sunday and all of our priests are to celebrate Liturgy in their respective parishes. In order to still provide an opportunity for our youth to participate we will still be having the Blessing of the Waters and Diving for the Cross. Therefore, the modified schedule for this year’s Holy Cross Celebration is as follows:

- 8:30am Orthros and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at St. George in Asbury Park(Ocean)
o All youth divers are asked to be in attendance at St. George for the Liturgy
o Buses will be available after Divine Liturgy to provide transportation for the Divers to the Asbury Park Beach

- 12:30pm Asbury Park Beach: Trisagion at the Patriarch Athenagoras Statue, Procession to the Water, the Blessing of the Waters, and the Diving for the Cross by the Youth

- Following the diving for the Cross the buses for the Youth will depart back to St. George

-*Please note that this year there will be no BBQ following the event

Heavenly Father, physician of our souls and bodies, who have sent Your only-begotten Son and our Lord Jesus Christ to heal every sickness and infirmity, visit and heal (me) Your servant from all physical and spiritual ailments through the grace of Your Christ. When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you." And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them: "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."

Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him: "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them: "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in his side, I will not believe."

Eight days later, his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them, and said: "Peace be with you." Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.

Brethren, we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw - each man's work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. And Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they entered the boat, the wind ceased. Holy Martyr Phanurius

Little is known of the holy Martyr Phanurius, except that which is depicted concerning his martyrdom on his holy icon, which was discovered in the year 1500 among the ruins of an ancient church on Rhodes, when the Moslems ruled there. Thus he is called "the Newly Revealed." The faithful pray to Saint Phanurius especially to help them recover things that have been lost, and because he has answered their prayers so often, the custom has arisen of baking a Phaneropita ("Phanurius-Cake") as a thanks-offering.

The divine Baptist, the Prophet born of a Prophet, the seal of all the Prophets and beginning of the Apostles, the mediator between the Old and New Covenants, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, the God-sent Messenger of the incarnate Messiah, the forerunner of Christ's coming into the world (Esaias 40: 3; Mal. 3: 1); who by many miracles was both conceived and born; who was filled with the Holy Spirit while yet in his mother's womb; who came forth like another Elias the Zealot, whose life in the wilderness and divine zeal for God's Law he imitated: this divine Prophet, after he had preached the baptism of repentance according to God's command; had taught men of low rank and high how they must order their lives; had admonished those whom he baptized and had filled them with the fear of God, teaching them that no one is able to escape the wrath to come if he do not works worthy of repentance; had, through such preaching, prepared their hearts to receive the evangelical teachings of the Savior; and finally, after he had pointed out to the people the very Savior, and said, "Behold the Lamb of God, Which taketh away the sin of the world" (Luke 3:2-18; John 1: 29-36), after all this, John sealed with his own blood the truth of his words and was made a sacred victim for the divine Law at the hands of a transgressor.

This was Herod Antipas, the Tetrarch of Galilee, the son of Herod the Great. This man had a lawful wife, the daughter of Arethas (or Aretas), the King of Arabia (that is, Arabia Petraea, which had the famous Nabatean stone city of Petra as its capital. This is the Aretas mentioned by Saint Paul in II Cor. 11:32). Without any cause, and against every commandment of the Law, he put her away and took to himself Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, to whom Herodias had borne a daughter, Salome. He would not desist from this unlawful union even when John, the preacher of repentance, the bold and austere accuser of the lawless, censured him and told him, "It is not lawful for thee to have thy brother's wife" (Mark 6: 18). Thus Herod, besides his other unholy acts, added yet this, that he apprehended John and shut him in prison; and perhaps he would have killed him straightway, had he not feared the people, who had extreme reverence for John. Certainly, in the beginning, he himself had great reverence for this just and holy man. But finally, being pierced with the sting of a mad lust for the woman Herodias, he laid his defiled hands on the teacher of purity on the very day he was celebrating his birthday. When Salome, Herodias' daughter, had danced in order to please him and those who were supping with him, he promised her -- with an oath more foolish than any foolishness -- that he would give her anything she asked, even unto the half of his kingdom. And she, consulting with her mother, straightway asked for the head of John the Baptist in a charger. Hence this transgressor of the Law, preferring his lawless oath above the precepts of the Law, fulfilled this godless promise and filled his loathsome banquet with the blood of the Prophet. So it was that that all-venerable head, revered by the Angels, was given as a prize for an abominable dance, and became the plaything of the dissolute daughter of a debauched mother.
