Emulating the ways of Elias the zealot, * and following the straight paths of the baptist O Father Anthony, * you made of the wilderness a city; * and did support the world by your prayers. * Wherefore intercede with Christ our God * that our souls be saved.
This Saint lived during the reign of Saint Constantine the Great, and reposed in 330, As a young man, he desired to espouse the solitary life. He made a pilgrimage to the holy city Jerusalem, where he found a place to withdraw to devote himself to prayer. It was made known to him, however, that this was not the will of God for him, but that he should return to his homeland to be a cause of salvation for many. He returned to Myra, and was ordained bishop. He became known for his abundant mercy, providing for the poor and needy, and delivering those who had been unjustly accused. No less was he known for his zeal for the truth. He was present at the First Ecumenical Council of the 318 Fathers at Nicaea in 325; upon hearing the blasphemies that Arius brazenly uttered against the Son of God, Saint Nicholas struck him on the face. Since the canons of the Church forbid the clergy to strike any man at all, his fellow bishops were in perplexity what disciplinary action was to be taken against this hierarch whom all revered. In the night our Lord Jesus Christ and our Lady Theotokos appeared to certain of the bishops, informing them that no action was to be taken against him, since he had acted not out of passion, but extreme love and piety. The Dismissal Hymn for holy hierarchs, The truth of things hath revealed thee to thy flock ... was written originally for Saint Nicholas. He is the patron of all travellers, and of sea-farers in particular; he is one of the best known and best loved Saints of all time.
Fourth Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from Luke 24:1-12
On the first day of the week, at early dawn, the women went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered in to the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise." And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told this to the apostles; but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.
But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home wondering at what had happened.

Prokeimenon. Grave Mode. Psalm 115.15,12.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.
Verse: What shall I render to the Lord for all that he has given me?
The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 13:17-21.
Brethren, obey your leaders and submit to them; for they are keeping watch over your souls, as men who will have to give account. Let them do this joyfully, and not sadly, for that would be of no advantage to you. Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner. Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do His will, working in you that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

10th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 13:10-17
At that time, Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity for eighteen years; she was bent over and could not fully straighten herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her and said to her, "Woman, you are freed from your infirmity." And he laid his hands upon her, and immediately she was made straight, and she praised God. But the ruler of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had healed on the sabbath, said to the people, "There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be healed, and not on the sabbath day." Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to water it? And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?" As he said this, all his adversaries were put to shame; and all the people rejoiced at all the glorious things that were done by him.

Share Faith and Light with Our Local Community This Holiday Season! As we settle into the warm glow of this holiday season and comforting celebrations of our Faith, let us not forget those in our community who find themselves in need. Health and safety precautions have limited our normal routines, traditions, and connections; but they do not limit the love and care we have for each other, our community, and those who are suffering from hardship.
One tradition impacted this year is our annual food barrel drive benefiting Saint Vincent's Food Pantry. We must hold true to our generous spirit as we adapt to the limitations put before us. With this in mind, and God's teachings in our hearts, our Parish will offer 50 percent of all Faith and Light donations collected now through Christmas as a gift to Saint Vincent's. Saint Vincent's Food Pantry has been the recipient of our annual food barrel donations for many years. It is the largest food pantry in northern Nevada, serving more than 15,000 individuals and families each month with non-perishable, canned and packaged food products at no cost. The Food Pantry is unable to accept food barrel donations this year, so monetary donations are critical in support of their continued mission to serve our community and those in need.
Please use this link to make a donation today! Be sure to select the Faith and Light option. Alternatively, you can mail or drop off a check to the church office. Please be sure to note "Faith and Light" in the memo. As an expression of our gratitude for your love and support, donors who contribute to Faith and Light between Nov. 25 and Dec. 25 will receive a beautiful customized Saint Anthony glass Christmas ornament while supplies last.
May you and your families enjoy a safe and blessed Thanksgiving and holiday season!"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." --Thessalonians 5: 16-18.
Faith and Light Thank you to all who continue to generously share their love and support the Faith & Light of our beloved Saint Anthony parish. We are encouraged by the offerings of treasure, talent, and time benefiting of our Income Generation plan to help offset the losses caused by the pandemic. We are truly a blessed community. Regular progress updates are being sent via email at the beginning of each month (and mailed to our non-email parishioners). If you haven't been receiving Faith & Light communications from the church, please contact the office to be sure we have your correct information.
Visit our website to learn more or Faith & Light efforts (http://saintanthonyreno.org/faith-light-for-all-generations/) Here you can find an overview of our plan, past emails, our Town Hall presentation video, and more. Check this page often as more information will be added as we progress!
We understand this time is impacting everyone in many ways and, therefore, all expressions of love for our parish are deeply appreciated. It is your love that keeps alive the Faith and Light of our church, now and for generations to come! May you have health and God’s blessing! Ygeía kai evlogía Theoú na éhete! +
Church Capacity Currently at 25 people Governor Sisolak's "Stay at Home 2.0" plan is still in effect, which asks all Nevadans to shelter in place as much as possible.
We are still operating at a limit of 25 people. This is in line with the Washoe County Health Department’s recommendation that public gatherings be limited to 25 or fewer. The sign-up process for Sunday Services remains the same, as does the approach to weekday services (no reservation needed). See links below for more information.
Additionally, “In person” church office hours are still reduced to Thursdays and Fridays only (9am-2pm). Mondays through Wednesdays the office will remain available to support you by phone or email during normal business hours. Father Stephen will continue to be available as usual via phone and email, and by appointment for in-person meetings.
Let us pray for those impacted, for our front-line health care workers, and for the health and well-being of our entire community. God willing, these additional restrictions will only be with us for a limited time.

Quick Reminders A reservation is required for Sunday Services Click Here for Sign Up Procedures You do not need to sign up for services held Monday-Saturday. These are open on a first-come first-seated basis until capacity is reached. Please do not congregate in the Narthex or Small Hall after church.
Live Streaming All scheduled services are being live-streamed on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/saintanthonychurchreno/.We have seen great improvement with the quality of our streaming, but we are still learning. We now have someone at church monitoring the live-streaming and correcting issues as they arise. If your video freezes or disconnects, please refresh your screen. Sometimes you will need to look for a new post to pick up on services where they cut out. Thank you for your continued patience and support as we learn and grow with this capability. It is a blessing to be able to connect with those at home in this way.
Online Giving Portal for Stewardship & Donation Offerings The Online Giving Portal can be accessed through our Church Website by clicking the new “Donations & Stewardship” tab. This functionality is secured for your protection and gives you the opportunity to make a one-time contribution or set up a recurring offering.
Our traditional ways of accepting offerings remain the same – the portal has been added for those who prefer the convenience of online giving. It also helps to mitigate the risks associated with handling cash. Our office remains open during weekdays and at services a collection tray will be placed in the Narthex (as a health and safety precaution it will not be passed).
Also be reminded it is still important to fill out a Stewardship Pledge card each year - this helps us to plan and budget effectively. If you have not completed one yet, please view and print a 2020 Stewardship Commitment Card by clicking on this address: http://www.saintanthonyreno.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Pledge-Card-PDF.pdf

In this national presidential election season, it’s very easy to think about everything within the context of our political system, and we even hear people talk about “democracy” within the parish. However, as a community of Faith, we need to carefully ask, first, is our national democracy a model for our church? And secondly, does democracy really apply to our parish? To have this discussion, we should first clarify a few important concepts about the Church.
