Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal 4th Tone

From on high You descended, Most Merciful; for us You condescended to a threeday burial to set us free from the passions. O Lord, our Resurrection and our Life, glory to You!

Seasonal Kontakion in the 1st Tone

Your birth sanctified a Virgin's womb and properly blessed the hands of Symeon. Having now come and saved us O Christ our God, give peace to Your commonwealth in troubled times and strengthen those in authority, whom You love, as only the loving One.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal 4th Tone. Psalm 75.11,1.
Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.
Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to Timothy 1:15-17.

Timothy, my son, the saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. And I am the foremost of sinners; but I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience for an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory to the ages of ages. Amen.

Gospel Reading

14th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 18:35-43

At that time, as Jesus drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging; and hearing a multitude going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, "Jesus of Nazareth is passing by." And he cried, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" And Jesus stopped, and commanded him to be brought to him; and when he came near, he asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" He said, "Lord, let me receive my sight." And Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has made you well." And immediately he received his sight and followed him, glorifying God; and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.

Wisdom of the Fathers

We may learn from this that when we ask with faith, God does not give something other than what we ask for, but the very same thing. However, when we ask for one thing and receive something else, it is clear that either we did not make a good request or we did not ask with faith.

Announcements

Current Community Update

We continue to journey through our liturgical worship with faith and grace! Furthermore, we continue with current temporary adjustments to Saint Basil life, in accordance with directives from the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver.

Liturgical

National, State and local directives are changing rapidly, including in references to churches.  Our Church hierarchy is in constant communication with public directives, guidlines and the prayerful consideration of how to reopen liturgical life.

This Sunday

  • As previously announced, social distancing measures will be in effect, limiting the number of people inside.  All parishioners inside or outside of the sanctuary are asked to follow the direction of our parish council members and ushers, who will facilitate the process of approaching to receive the Holy Sacrament.

Multiple Liturgies

  • Through the coming months, Saint Basil's will celebrate the Divine Liturgy multiple times each week, to provide ample opportunity for the faithful to participate in the Divine Liturgy and receive Holy Communion, without forcing a large gathering.  Anyone in an 'at risk' demographic is encouraged to come to the weekday Liturgies.

This Week's Liturgical Schedule:

Monday: Divine Liturgy 9am, Saint Gregory the Theologian

Saturday: Divine Liturgy 9 am, Three Hierarchs

Memorial Services

  • We now are allowing koliva to be brought to the church, to be included in the experience of praynig the Memorial Serivce.  The koliva will be blessed during the service, yet not distributed to the faithful.  The family that brought the koliva for the memorial service will be expected to take the koliva home with them.

For additional pastoral services, please contact the church office.

Ministries, Community Events, Meetings & Gatherings

  • Youth Education Program (YEP):  This Sunday is our first Face 2 Face YEP classroom experience.  We will offer Face 2 Face class experience, with safety protocols based upon the experience offered in our local public school districts.  Classes will be held outdoors when possible, when inside then distancing, hand sanitizing and the wearing of masks are suggested and expected.
  • Saint Basil's Bookclub: The Boy Crisis. Continues Sunday at 7pm.
  • Men's Online Fellowship: Wild at Heart.  Week 2 of our 6 week session continues with Wednesday morning at 6:30am.
  • Bible Sunday: Sunday Readings.  Continues online this Wednesday at 11am.  In person participation will be offered next month.

Stewardship

We are beginning 2021 with a renewed focus on God in our lives. Foundational to God-centered focus in our lives is the actionable experience of stewardship: offering back to God a smalll amount of what He has given to you.  With responsible stewardship, comes the abundance of God's Grace.  Saint Basil's wants the Grace of God to flow richly in the life of our community and the individual lives of the faithful, therefore, Saint Basil's continues to offer a Stewardship program to help facilitate the experience of good stewardship in the lives of our parishioners.

Please see the stewardship letter attached and complete the stewardship card attached to this weekly bulletin, and return it to the church office this week, or this weekend by bringing it with you to the Divine LIturgy this Sunday.

Your good stewardship helps our community grow forward toward greater stability and service to Christ.  Saint Basil's has been there for all of us -- will you be there for Saint Basil's?

Prayer of Protection from the Coronavirus

O God Almighty, Lord of heaven and earth, and of all creation visible and invisible, in Your ineffable goodness, look down upon Your people gathered in Your name.  Be our helper and defender in this day of affliction.  You know our weakness.  You hear our cry in repentance and contrition of heart.  O Lord who loves mankind deliver us from the impending threat of the corona virus.  Send Your Angel to watch over us and protect us.  Grant health and recovery to those suffering from this virus.  Guide the hands of physicians and preserve those who are healthy that we may continue to serve You in peace and glorify Your most honorable and majestic Name, of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages. Amen.
