Apolytikion for Theophany Afterfeast in the First Mode

When Thou wast baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest; for the voice of the Father bare witness to Thee, calling Thee His beloved Son. And the Spirit in the form of a dove confirmed the certainty of the word. O Christ our God, Who hast appeared and hast enlightened the world, glory be to Thee.

Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians 4:7-13.

BRETHREN, grace was given to each of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. Therefore it is said, "When he ascended on high he led a host of captives, and he gave gifts to men." (in saying, "He ascended," what does it mean but that he had also descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is he who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.) And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

At that time, when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee; and leaving Nazareth he went and dwelt in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, toward the sea, across the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and for those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."

UPCOMING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:

SUNDAY SCHOOL: Classes resume TODAY for Sunday School. Please attend church with your children, and then after Holy Communion, children will be dismissed to go to their Sunday School classes. If your young people have not been attending Sunday School, it’s not too late to start - Sunday School and Senior Discussion groups are available for Pre-School – 12^th grade.

PHILOPTOCHOS GENERAL MEETING/MEN’S CLUB MEETING: Will be held TODAY, Sunday, January 12^th, immediately following church . There will be two meetings: Philoptochos General Meeting in the multi-purpose room/library; Men’s Club meeting in the coffee hour Cultural Center hall. Members of both groups are encouraged to attend.

ADULT BIBLE STUDY will resume this Tuesday, January 12^th at 7:00 pm. All are welcome to join us to grow our spiritual education and share excellent discussion.

FEBRUARY 9^TH GREEK FEST: The excitement is building! We are exactly 4 weeks from our church’s one-day indoor Greek Festival, featuring delicious Greek food and sweets, live Greek music with the “Enigma” band, KYKLOS dancers and other area dance groups, and much more! Each parishioner is needed to help us get the word out, volunteer in some way, and then attend with their family and friends! This event is open to the community, and we want to encourage our friends and neighbors to “Be Greek for a Day” and join us!

NEWS AND NOTICES

CONGRATULATIONS AND BLESSINGS! Ευτυχισμένος το νέο έτος! Tracy Monolidis received the coin in our parish Vasilopita on behalf of our Sunday School teachers; and Will Eby received the parishioners’ coin. Once again this year, Dimitra Serafim baked the delicious Vasilopita that was cut in church. Γειά στα χέρια σας!!!

ANNUAL HOME BLESSINGS: After the Epiphany and through the beginning of Lent, Father Teodor is available for home blessings. This is a beautiful and very important tradition of our church; every Orthodox Christian should have their home blessed annually. Please call the office to schedule your home blessing for the new year.

2020 STEWARDSHIP PLEDGE: If you have not done so already, please turn in your 2020 Stewardship Pledge. Pledge cards are available at the Pangari and the church office.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: During inclement weather we will always try to notify people whenever possible of a cancelled event or activity, but when in doubt, please call the church office before you come in. Phone messages and emails are checked periodically and responded to as quickly as possible.
