UPCOMING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:
FEBRUARY 9TH GREEK FEST: It’s almost here! GreekFest 2020 – our indoor Greek Festival is NEXT SUNDAY, February 9th and preparations are underway! This unique all-indoor festival will feature delicious Greek food and sweets, live Greek music with the “Enigma” band, KYKLOS dancers and other area dance groups. Volunteers are still needed, especially for the 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm shift. This event is open to the community, please encourage your friends to “Be Greek for a Day” and join us from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm on Sunday, February 9th.
2/9/20 - EARLY CHURCH SERVICES/NO SUNDAY SCHOOL: Church will start early next Sunday because of the Greek festival . Set your alarms so you won’t be late! Orthros begins at 8:30 am, and the Divine Liturgy will begin at 9:15 am (casual dress is OK!) This is a family worship day, and there will be no Sunday School.
THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STARS? This Thursday morning (2/6) at approx. 9:00 am, Stella Boyer will appear on a FOX TV2 news “Cooking School” segment promoting our GreekFest, and making her delicious spanakopita! On Saturday morning (2/8)at approx.. 8:20 am, Pam Avdoulos will appear on FOX TV2 Weekend and prepare her fantastic pastitsio recipe and talk about all the tasty Greek food being served at the festival. Tune in!
TLC LUNCHEON: Our Thursday Lunch Club Valentines luncheon will be held on Thursday, February 6th at 12:00 noon. After this, we will take the months of March and April due to Lenten activities. RSVP to the church office no later than Tuesday, 2/4/20, so we can give a count to the HCC. All ages are welcome to join us!
GODPARENTS’ SUNDAY: Invite your godparents and godchildren to attend church with you on Sunday, February 23rd to receive Holy Communion together, and then stay for a delicious brunch at the Hellenic Cultural Center!
PISTONS GREEK HERITAGE NIGHT! Oops! We got the date wrong last week - the Detroit Pistons Greek Heritage night will be held on Thursday, February 20th. A portion of every ticket will support the Metropolis of Detroit Summer Camp. To purchase tickets, please visit: Pistons.com/Greeknight.
NEWS AND NOTICES:
ANNUAL HOME BLESSINGS: After the Epiphany and through the beginning of Lent, Father Teodor is available for home blessings. This is a beautiful and very important tradition of our church; every Orthodox Christian should have their home blessed annually. Please call the office to schedule your home blessing for the new year.
2020 STEWARDSHIP PLEDGE: If you have not done so already, please turn in your 2020 Stewardship Pledge. Pledge cards are available at the Pangari and the church office.
APOKREATIKO CARNEVALE: Celebrate “Mardi Gras” before the start of Lent at St. George GOC, Southgate with their Apolkreatiko Dinner Dance. Costumes are encouraged. For tickets, call the St. George church office at 734.283.8820 or online at stgeorgesouthgate.org
ORATORICAL FESTIVAL: Attention parents: Our annual Oratorical Festival will be held immediately following church services on Sunday, March 22. This year we would like to encourage more of our young adults to participate and are offering each age group a $500 and $250 prize.
