UPCOMING EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:
H.O.P.E. and J.O.Y. GOOD DEEDS – Our HOPE & JOY groups will meet on Sunday March 15th with their families for a kid-friendly Lenten lunch, and to assemble Easter baskets for needy children, and make Easter cards for the senior shut-ins in our parish. This is a great way to have some fun, while learning about the importance of doing kind things for others. Please reserve your place TODAY after church or contact Frances Marinos at fmarinos@comcast.net
PRESANCTIFIED LITURGY/LENTEN SUPPER: On Wednesday, March 11th, following the Presanctified Liturgy at 5:30 pm, we will have a Potluck Lenten supper, hosted by the members of our Mom’s Group and GOYA. That evening there will be a presentation by Fr. Mark Sietsema from Holy Trinity Church in Lansing. Everyone is encouraged to attend this evening of worship, learning, and fellowship.
FRIDAY SALUTATIONS/CONFESSION: Fr. Teodor will be available for one hour each Friday after the Salutations service to hear confession for those who are interested. If that time is not convenient for you, contact the church office to schedule an appointment.
ORATORICAL FESTIVAL: It’s not too late for your young person, grades 7 – 12, to participate in the St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival, Sunday, March 22nd. The Festival provides youth the opportunity to write a paper and give a speech about their faith. Competition finalists receive cash prizes. For more information about participation, contact Angie Colovas at 734.207.3980 or angiecolovas@yahoo.com.
LENTEN SEAFOOD BUFFET: Each Friday evening, from February 28th through April 10th, the HCC will be serving a delicious Lenten Seafood Buffet Supper from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. No reservations are required. If you would like to volunteer to work the door, contact John Avdoulos at javdoulos@hksinc.com
LENTEN VESPERS: Today, Sunday, March 8th at 6:00 pm there will be an Inter-Orthodox Great Vespers for the Sunday of Orthodoxy at the Antiochian Orthodox Basilica of Saint Mary, 18100 Merriman Rd., Livonia (between 6 & 7 Mile Rds). There will be a procession with the icons and the featured Guest Speaker will be Fr. William Bartz, Interim priest at St. Nicholas Church in Troy, MI. See flyer at the Pangari for more information.
NEWS AND NOTICES
LENTEN RECIPES: Tired of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? There will be a small booklet with easy to prepare Lenten recipes distributed in church today. During the time of Lent we fast from meat and dairy, and these recipes might give you a few new ideas of things to serve your family during the Lenten season. Recipe booklets will also be available throughout Lent on the Pangari and the church office.
HOME-MADE TARAMOSALATA Delicious taramosalata (a traditional Greek spread made from the salted and cured roe of fish, mixed with oil, lemon juice, and other ingredients) is available for sale for those interested. Please call Carol Bozadzis 248-471-4369.
THANK YOU! Many thanks to His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas, visiting clergy, and the St. Helen Philoptochos, who helped us to start the Lenten season with the Great Compline service and Koulouma luncheon on March 2nd. Our 83rd annual Koulouma brought together members from area Orthodox churches to celebrate the start of Great Lent. Thanks to all who cooked, volunteered and attended, who helped to make this year’s event a success.
2020 STEWARDSHIP PLEDGE: If you have not yet completed your 2020 Stewardship Pledge card, please do so today. Your commitment helps the church to plan its ministries and events for the year. You must complete a pledge form to be considered a member in good standing for 2020. Forms are available at the Pangari or in the church office.
REMEMBER THE CHURCH IN YOUR WILL. If you have included the church in your will, contact Fr Teodor so your name may be included in the prayers said each liturgy for members of the ‘Eternal Light Society’. For more information contact Fr Teodor or the church office.
