The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 1:11-19.

Brethren, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. The Reading is from Luke 8:26-39

At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.

FALL FEST FUN WALK!: Next Sunday November 1^st, immediately following church, there will be a “Fall Fest Fun Walk”. Parents and Grandparents!! Plan to visit our “enchanted forest” down the church hallway with your children 12 years and under for all kinds of fun surprises, great give-aways and treats! OPERATION GRATITUDE: When you come to church on the day after Halloween (Next Sunday, Nov. 1^st), please bring any extra and left-over Halloween candy to be donated to “Operation Gratitude”, which sends it to our US Military and to First Responders. This is a one-day only opportunity to donate, and say “thank you” to those who serve.

GIFT CARDS NEEDED: During our Reverse Raffle event, every 10^th number drawn receives a prize! We are in need of gift card donations to area restaurants, stores, services, etc. to be used as those prizes. Please drop gift card donations to Annette’s attention in the church office.

ICONOGRAPHY: We’re getting close! We have reached 83% of our fundraising goal for our Iconography project, and we expect delivery on some of the Iconostasis icons in the next few months. Icons still available for sponsorship as of 10/23/20 include:

FEED THE NEEDY: Due to the pandemic, we are unable to pack and deliver food for the “John Koinis Feed the Needy Program” this year. Instead, the Men’s Club will be providing gift cards to needy Westland and Livonia families so they can purchase groceries for Thanksgiving. Your donations are needed. All of our Sunday School families have received contribution folders in the mail, and donation envelopes for Feed the Needy are available at the Pangari. We are also in need of volunteers to deliver the gift cards to homes in the Westland and Livonia area, tentatively scheduled for 11/15. HELLENIC CULTURAL CENTER REOPENING: The State of Michigan is allowing banquet facilities to open for events with reduced capacity. Masks and social distance restrictions are in place, along with increased precautions in the preparation and serving of food and drink. DIVINE LITURGY BOOKS FOR SALE: Our parish bookstore is offering Divine Liturgy books for sale at cost for those who wish to follow along with the Divine Liturgy service during this time of pandemic. The books will be sold for $20 each. Parishioners are asked to bring their own book to church and take it home with them when they leave each week. For those not able to attend church at this time, books will also be available at the church office during business hours if you wish to follow along with the service from home.

GREAT WORK, KIDS! We are so proud of our 2^nd – 4^th graders, who made and sent notes and cards to some of our senior parishioners who have not been able to attend church recently. Thank you! You brought a smile to somebody’s face today!

QUESTIONS FOR FATHER TEODOR: In this unusual time with no regular Sunday School classes, Father Teodor will take a few minutes on Sunday mornings to answer questions from our young people (or adults!) about our faith. MEMORIAL SERVICE INFORMATION

Please call the church office to schedule memorials in a timely manner so we can include the information in the bulletin. On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer. At this time, due to COVID restrictions, koliva that has been prepared for the memorial service cannot be distributed to parishioners, but will be returned to the family to take home. We are not currently allowed to have coffee hour, or distribute any cookies, paximadia or koulourakia.
