Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. FAMILY SUNDAY/GODPARENTS’ SUNDAY: Please plan to join us next Sunday, Valentine’s Day, February 14^th. On that day, our parish will celebrate Godparents’ Sunday. If possible, attend church and take Communion (and share a sweet surprise!) with your Godchildren/Godparents on that day.

FRIDAY FISH FRYS: Beginning Friday February 19^th, the Hellenic Cultural Center will be serving fish and chips dinners for CARRY-OUT ONLY. Chicken “fingers” and Calamari are also available. AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: On Thursday February 25^th, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, we will be hosting another American Red Cross blood drive in the Hellenic Cultural Center. As an added incentive, all who donate will be given a $5 Amazon Gift card as a special “thank you”! PHILOPTOCHOS LENTEN MARKETPLACE: On Sunday, March 14^th, and on Monday March 15^th, the start of our Lenten period, our St. Helen Philoptochos will be holding a Lenten “Marketplace”, selling full Lenten meal trays (pre-order), and traditional Lenten foods. Sale will be held after church services on both days, for drive-thru and carry out.

ORATORICAL FESTIVAL: Our parish will be participating in the annual St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival again this year. The Festival provides Greek Orthodox youth, grades 7 – 12, the opportunity to write a paper and give a speech about their faith. Finalists in each division receive cash prizes and move on to District Finals, Metropolis, and then Nationals. Due to COVID precautions, speeches will be videotaped in the church, without an audience, March 19 - 25, 2021. Please notify the church office by March 1^st, if your young person would like to participate, and we will schedule an appointment time. This is a great opportunity for young people to apply our faith to current issues, and to gain confidence in speaking in public.

MDSC CAMP: Metropolis of Detroit Summer Camp (MDSC) camper registration opens on March 15th! They are moving forward with hope and a mission to gather safely in Rose City for the 2021 camp season, but also working on a backup plan should our circumstances change. They welcome registration for campers entering grades 3-11 for Weeks 1-5 and entering grade 12 or first year of college for Week Zero. Note, capacity will be adjusted this season, so don’t wait to register! Staff positions are also available for ages 17 and older. NEWS AND NOTICES

ICONOGRAPHY: We are still seeking sponsorship for the following icons: St Matthew, St. Gregory the Theologian, St. Cyril of Alexandria, St. Gregory of Nyssa, and St. Iakovos (James). We are also in need of general donations of any amount to complete our fundraising on Phase One: East and Dome. For those who are interested in sponsoring an icon, please talk to Father Teodor or contact the church office for more information. We are about 92% to completion of our fundraising goal!

STEWARDSHIP PLEDGES: All parishioners must complete a Stewardship Pledge form each year to be considered a “member in good standing” at an Orthodox Church. All parish households were mailed 2021 Stewardship Pledge Forms and the 2021 Archdiocese Calendars by mail; forms can also be picked up at the Pangari or Church office. Please bring your completed pledge form with you when you attend church. This year, if it is more convenient, you may also complete your 2021 Stewardship Pledge online at our website, at https://www.stcons.org/stewardship

REMEMBER THE CHURCH IN YOUR WILL: You’ve supported the church your whole life, remembering us in your estate plan will help the church when you’re gone. Consult your estate planner or contact the Church office for information.

Memorial Service Information: Please call the church office to schedule memorials in a timely manner so we can include the information in the bulletin. On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer. At this time, due to COVID restrictions, koliva that has been prepared for the memorial service cannot be distributed to parishioners, but will be returned to the family to take home. We are not currently allowed to have coffee hour, or distribute any cookies, paximadia or koulourakia.

Non-Orthodox Visitors Please Note: Holy Communion is offered to Orthodox Christians who have properly prepared themselves. Visitors are welcome to receive the Antidoron (Blessed Bread), which is distributed at the end of the Divine Liturgy.

Wisdom of the Fathers

There is an old saying: 'Excesses meet.' Too much fasting and too much eating come to the same end. Keeping too long a vigil brings the same disastrous cost as ... sluggishness... Too much self-denial brings weakness and induces the same condition as carelessness. Often I have seen men who would not be snared by gluttony fall, nevertheless, through immoderate fasting and tumble in weakness into the very urge which they had overcome. Unmeasured vigils and foolish denial of rest overcame those whom sleep could not overcome. Therefore, 'fortified to right and to left in the armor of justice,' as the apostle says (2 Cor. 6:7), life must be lived with due measure and, with discernment for a guide, the road must be traveled between the two kinds of excess so that in the end we may not allow ourselves to be diverted from the pathway of restraint which has been laid down for us nor fall through dangerous carelessness into the urgings of gluttony and self-indulgence.
