Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal First Mode

Let us worship the Word who is unoriginate * with the Father and the Spirit, and from a Virgin was born * for our salvation, O believers, and let us sing His praise. * For in His goodness He was pleased * to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to undergo death, * and to raise up those who had died, * by His glorious Resurrection.

Apolytikion for Proodos of the Holy Cross in the First Mode

Save, O Lord, Thy people and bless Thine inheritance; grant Thou unto the faithful victory over adversaries. And by the power of Thy Cross do Thou preserve Thy commonwealth.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Grave Mode

You were transfigured upon the mount, O Christ our God, and Your disciples, in so far as they could bear, beheld Your glory. Thus, when they see You crucified, they may understand Your voluntary passion, and proclaim to the world that You are truly the effulgence of the Father.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal First Mode. Psalm 11.7,1.
You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us.
Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 12:6-14.

Brethren, having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.

Plagal First Mode.

Gospel Reading

6th Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 9:1-8

At that time, getting into a boat Jesus crossed over and came to his own city. And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming." But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say 'Rise and walk?' But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" he then said to the paralytic -- "Rise, take up your bed and go home." And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

6th Sunday of Matthew

As always, if there is an urgent need or emergency situation, call Fr. Teodor on his cell at 248.330.3177.

CHOIR:  What a joy to hear our choir singing in church again! Choir will return to a regular schedule of singing for the Divine Liturgy, and Wednesday evening rehearsals after Labor Day. Those interested in joining, should contact Choir Director Maritsa Kalasz at madiaskalasz@gmail.com.

SUMMER SURVIVAL BOARD:  Many thanks to those who have already contributed to our Summer Survival board! As of July 29th, Saints Constantine and Helen has received $15,500 in donations and pledges.  We appreciate your support!   Even though attendance generally decreases during the summer months, regular building and property maintenance, utilities, and other expenses continue. That is why, again this year, we are asking for your help by making an additional donation to our “Summer Survival” campaign. You may make a pledge by signing onto one of the boxes on the sign in our Narthex, and send a check to the church office, or make a donation via our website. Your help will make a big difference!

COMMUNION VISITS: Father Teodor will continue making home and facility visits over the next two weeks, in advance of the Dormition of the Theotokos, to give communion to those who are not able to make it into church.  If you would like to receive communion or know of a shut-in who is in need of communion, please contact the church office to schedule time in Father’s schedule.

ST CONS GREEK FESTIVAL COMMITTEE:  Our indoor Greek Festival will be back in February of 2022 – bigger and better than ever!  We are putting together the event planning committee now, and we need you! If you are interested in helping to plan and organize the Saints Constantine and Helen GREEKFEST 2022, please contact Mark Chuey at  markchuey@aol.com

ICONOGRAPHY UPDATE: Our Iconostasis is looking gorgeous with last week’s installation of 4 more icons.  At this time, all icons for Phase One of our Iconography project have received sponsorship, but we are still in need of general donations of any amount to complete our Iconography project fundraising. These donations provide support for installation, travel, and other associated fees. We are hoping for a visit in the fall from our iconographer if travel restrictions from Europe to the US ease.  At that time, they will measure and plan for the installation of icons in the church altar.

PHILOPTOCHOS RAFFLE:  Carol Bozadzis has raffle tickets available for sale for the National Philoptochos Children’s Medical Fund to be drawn on Saturday, November 6, 2021. The raffle includes a wonderful collection of prizes and 100% of the raffle’s income will go to the Medical Fund, which assists children with medical, surgical, or mental health needs as well as financially supports innovative programs and services benefitting our precious children. Raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.00. Please contact Carol at 248-471-4369 if you are interested and would like to support this worthy cause.

MEMORIAL SERVICESKoliva that has been prepared for memorial services can now be distributed to parishioners at the end of service.  The koliva will be put in small baggies and distributed at the coffee hour. We are also again able to accept Coffee Hour Sponsors, for those having a memorial or other special day in church.  Requested sponsorship donation is $150, and the HCC will set up a table with cloth and coffee, etc. for your family. Paximadia and koulourakia may also be distributed at the coffee hour. Please call the church office to schedule memorials and coffee hour sponsorships in a timely manner so we can include the information in the bulletin.  On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer.

Wisdom of the Fathers

Here he names a comprehensive thing. For the Apostleship even is called a ministry, and every spiritual work is a ministry. This is indeed a name of a peculiar office (viz. the 502 diaconate); however, it is used in a general sense. "Or he that teacheth, on teaching." See with what indifference he places them, the little first and the great afterwards, again giving us the same lesson, not to be puffed up or elated...."Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation." And this is a species of teaching too. For "if ye have any word of exhortation," it says, "speak unto the people." (Acts xiii. 15.) Then to show that it is no great good to follow after virtue unless this is done with the proper rule, he proceeds, "He that giveth" (<greek>metadidois</greek>, imparteth), "let him do it with simplicity." For it is not enough to give, but we must do it with munificence also, for this constantly answereth to the name of simplicity...For it is not enough to show mercy, but it behooves us to do it with a largeness and an ungrudging spirit, or rather not with an ungrudging, but even with a cheerful and rejoicing one, for not grudging does not amount to rejoicing...writing to the Corinthians also, he insisted very strongly upon. For to rouse them to such largeness he said, "He that soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly, and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. (2 Cor. ix. 6.) But to correct their temper he added, "Not grudgingly or of necessity." (ib. 7.) For both the shower of mercy ought to have, both ungrudgingness and pleasure.
St. John Chrysostom
Homily 21 on Romans 7, 4th Century

Through the toil of prayer and the anguish of your heart commune with those who are grieved at heart, and the Source of mercy will be opened up to your petitions.
St. Isaac of Syria
Unknown, 7th century
