Resurrectional Apolytikion in the First Mode

The stone had been secured with a seal by the Judeans, * and a guard of soldiers was watching Your immaculate body. * You rose on the third day, O Lord * and Savior, granting life unto the world. * For this reason were the powers of heaven crying out to You, O Life-giver: * Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ; * glory to Your eternal rule; * glory to Your dispensation, only One who loves mankind.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Mode

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. First Mode. Psalm 32.22,1.
Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16.

Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

First Mode.

Gospel Reading

2nd Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 4:18-23

At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.

2nd Sunday of Matthew

Parish News and Updates

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:

“SENSE-SATIONAL” VCS - SAVE THE DATES!  Our Vacation Church School will be held the week of August 8th – 12th. If you have a young person entering Kindergarten through 6th grade this fall, save this week for learning about our faith, making new friends, and big fun! Along with our lessons, we will have craft, science, music, and outdoor activities. A field trip to the Monastery is also planning. Registration is available online at www.stcons.org/documents  or the church office.  Parent and Teen volunteers are needed! If you can help, contact Frances at fmarinos@comcast.net  or the church office.

NEWS AND NOTICES:

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2022 MAN OF THE YEAR! CONGRATULATIONS to our 2022 “Man of the Year”, DINO LEMBESIS! As President of the St. Cons’ Parish Council since 2017, Dino’s positive energy and strong but easy-going leadership style have earned him great respect in our parish family. A truly hard-working and genuinely nice guy, there is nobody more deserving of the award! Thank you, Dino! We love you!

GOYA CAN/BOTTLE COLLECTION:  To help raise funds for future projects, GOYA is going to be collecting returnable bottles and cans during the summer. The boxes are in the vestibule near the church office. Drop-offs should be clean, intact, and still have the labels on them. They can be brought in any day of the week during church office or on Sundays.

CONGREGATIONAL SINGING: Last Sunday we distributed Divine Liturgy Hymnals as people entered the church.  The green books are in the church pews. We hope that you will start to get acquainted with the Hymnals and follow along with the service.  Moving forward, we hope to have Congregational Singing Sundays approximately once a month.

SUMMER SURVIVAL: Our Summer Survival Board is back in the church Narthex. Even though church attendance unfortunately decreases during the summer months, youth and other programs increase their activity, while regular building and property maintenance, utilities, and other expenses continue. That is why, again this year, we are asking for your help by making an additional donation to our “Summer Survival” campaign. You can make a donation online at stcons.org or by cash or check at the church office (or by mail).  Your help will make a big difference!

ICONOGRAPHY: As most of our parishioners know, our Iconographers will be at Sts. Constantine and Helen to complete the iconography work in the Altar areas beginning August 1st.  If you have sponsored an icon in those areas, the balance is due on your sponsorship donation by July 1st. We are also in need of the inscription that you wish to have on your icon by that date. Please contact the church office or Fr. Teodor is you have any questions.

GUS CONSTANTELLIS THANK YOUS:  Many thanks to Maria Topalovic, who coordinated the Gus Constantellis Comedy Event, to Pete Kalergis who took the great photos, the HCC staff, and to all of our parishioners in attendance.  We all had a lot of laughs, enjoyed seeing many friends from the metro-Detroit Greek community, and raised funds for our church ministries.

CEDAR POINT FUN: Our GOYA members enjoyed a great day at Cedar Point in Sandusky Ohio this week, with members of the Nativity and St. George GOYAs. Thank you to all the parent chaperones, and GOYA Advisors for making the trip possible.

MEMORIAL SERVICESPlease call the church office to schedule all memorials and coffee hour sponsorships at least two weeks in advance.  On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer. Requested Coffee Hour sponsorship donation is $150, and the HCC will set up a table with cloth and coffee, etc. for your family. Koliva will be distributed at the coffee hour; if you wish to bring in paximadia, koulourakia, or other dry cookie it may also be distributed.

Wisdom of the Fathers

But mark both their faith, and their obedience. For though they were in the midst of their work (and you know how greedy a thing fishing is), when they heard His command, they delayed not, ... but "they forsook all and followed," ... Because such is the obedience which Christ seeks of us, as that we delay not even a moment of time.
St. John Chrysostom
Homily 14 on Matthew 4, 4th Century

Prayer, fasting, vigil and all other Christian practices, however good they may be in themselves, do not constitute the aim of our Christian life, although they serve as the indispensable means of reaching this end. The true aim of our Christian life consists in the acquisition of the Holy Spirit of God.
St. Seraphim of Sarov
The Acquisition of the Holy Spirit: Chapter 3, The Little Russian Philokalia Vol. 1; Saint Herman of Alaska Brotherhood pg. 79, 19th century
