The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:1-10.

Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:

TODAY - HOPE AND JOY FALL FUN LUNCHEON: Our HOPE and JOY groups will meet after church TODAY Sunday, October 2^nd for a delicious lunch, fun fall crafts, and an opportunity for the kids to ask Father Teodor questions about our faith, or anything that’s on their mind! Children ages 4 – 12 and their families are welcome to stay for this fun event!

MORE FALL FUN WITH OUR TLC GATHERING!: Why should kids have all the fun? All ages are welcome to join us on October 11^th at 12:00 noon at the Hellenic Cultural Center for a delicious meal, some rounds of “Boo BINGO”, and lots of extra tricks and treats! If you are retired and not working, or can take a break in the middle of your day, come on down! Lunch is $15. BINGO prizes and extra treats are on the house! RSVP to Caryl Lowes by Friday, 10/7 if you can join us.

BUY YOUR REVERSE RAFFLE TICKETS TODAY!: Our parish’s biggest annual fundraiser, “Putting on the Glitz” will be held LIVE on Sunday, November 6^th at 6:00 pm for the first time in 3 years! The Dinner, Auction and live drawing will be held at the Hellenic Cultural Center. Each raffle ticket is $125, with the top prize of $4,000! Every 10^th number drawn receives gift cards and/or cash prizes! Tickets are available from any Parish Council member, from Fr. Teodor, or in the church office; and will go up for sale on the St Cons website in October.

We are also in need of donations of live and silent auction items for the “Putting on the Glitz” event in November. Gift cards, baskets, services, travel packages and entertainment, sports memorabilia, etc. please bring your donations into the church office, and call the office if you have any questions, if you need printed materials, tax exempt info, etc.

GOYA MEETING: Our first GOYA meeting of the year will be held in the board room on Sunday October 16th following church. All young people, ages 12 – 18 welcome to join. For more information, stcconsgoya3@gmail.com

FALL FESTIVAL: Tickets are on sale today! Our annual Fall Festival will be held on Friday, October 28^th! Put on your best costume and join us in the Hellenic Cultural Center for a safe indoor party with lots of prizes, games, bounce house, craft activities, photo booth, BINGO, fun and food for kids of all ages!. Costumes aren’t mandatory, but they sure are fun! WALK TO END ALZHEIMERS: Alzheimer's isn't waiting — and neither are we! GOYA members will be “selling” paper flowers to help raise money for their Walk to End Alzheimers team. Flowers are $5 each, and will be sold and displayed in the Narthex on Sundays through October. This year, St. Cons GOYA is participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. The walk is at the Detroit Zoo on Saturday, October 29 at 9:00am. All are welcome to walk with our team, or to make a donation in support! For more information, stcconsgoya3@gmail.com

NEWS AND NOTICES:

FEED THE NEEDY: The Men’s Club is getting ready for their annual “Feed the Needy” program, providing Thanksgiving Dinner for hundreds of area low-income families in need. Donations are still needed, and giving envelopes are available at the Pangari.

COLLEGE CONNECTION: The Moms' Group is planning to mail the College Connection “CARE” packages this week to our college (undergrad and grad) students living at home or away. Please submit your student's info by October 9, on the Google form at: https://www.stcons.org/documents or you are welcome to email the info to Cathy Brylinski at cbrylins@gmail.com. If your student has graduated, please let us know, so we can update our records.

MCOC YOUNG ADULT CONFERENCE: The Motor City Orthodox Conference for Young Adults, “What is Servant Leadership?” will be held at the Hotel St. Regis, Detroit, from November 4 – 6, 2022. Keynote Speaker is Steve Christoforou. Our parish will assist those parishioners, ages 21 – 40, with conference registration fees. Those interested in attending should speak directly to Fr. Teodor. . MEMORIAL SERVICES: Please call the church office to schedule all memorials and coffee hour sponsorships at least two weeks in advance. On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer. Koliva will be distributed at the coffee hour; if you wish to bring in paximadia, koulourakia, or other dry cookie it may also be distributed. Coffee Hour sponsorship is not required, however the church is grateful to those who wish to make a sponsorship donation of $150, and the HCC will set up a table with cloth and coffee, etc. for your family.

Wisdom of the Fathers

There are three things that impel us towards what is holy: natural instincts, angelic powers and probity of intention. Natural instincts impel us when, for example, we do to others what we would wish them to do to us (cf. Luke 6:31), or when we see someone suffering deprivation or in need and naturally feel compassion. Angelic powers impel us when, being ourselves impelled to something worthwhile, we find we are providentially helped and guided. We are impelled by probity of intention when, discriminating between good and evil, we choose the good.
