Fellowship Hour: Cheese Fare Sunday Brunch
All are invited to our special fellowship hour this morning with special foods on this the last day prior to Great Lent. We thank the families of those memorialized today for sponsoring and hosting this community meal!
DURING THE WEEK
We begin the Great Fast of Lent at sundown, generally fasting strictly on weekdays from all meat, regular fish, meat products, dairy, eggs, alcohol and (cooking) oils. Shellfish are permitted in an otherwise "vegan" diet. On Saturdays and Sundays during the fast, alcohol and oils are permitted.
Those who have not strictly fasted before, and those under care by physicians or suffering from acute or chronic illness should adapt the fast in a manner best suited for your health. Fasting does have both spiritual and physical benefits, but if practiced incorrectly can be harmful as well. Likewise, almsgiving--especially feeding those in need--is an important element of our lenten observance. Fasting apart from attention to prayer and worship, along with a conscientious practice of virtue, is only a self-serving diet which is contrary to the spirit of the season.
Please also note that the Parish Office will be closed Monday and Tuesday, and will repopen Wednesday after 2:00 p.m.

NEWS
Almsgiving in Lent: Donating in Time of Need:
We will begin our annual Toiletries Drive to benefit The Haven House, a domestic violence shelter for women and children next Sunday (March 5). Our drive will extend to Sunday, April 2. Donations of toiletry and sanitary products can be dropped off in the Narthex (foyer) on Sundays or at our Bookstand.
We are always accepting non-perishable foods to assist those in need, and items may be dropped off in the Narthex (foyer) at services on Sunday and Feastdays. Likewise, our Philoptochos Ladies are seeking donations of Coffee to assist the City Rescue Mission of Hammond, a local homeless shelter. Again, donations can be left in the Narthex or at the Parish Office during the week.
Wednesday: Presanctified Liturgy Pot-Luck Dinner
Join us for the traditional first meal of the Great Fast following the Presanctified Divine Liturgy this Wednesday evening (beginning 6:30 p.m.). You are invited to bring a Lenten dish to share, but you don’t have to cook to come!
2023 Summer Greekfest: Keep the Date!
Due to scheduling conflicts, the Parish Council has decided it best to change the date of our summer festival from its customary weekend. This year Greekfest will be held on Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25. We hope you will plan accordingly.
Dyer Property Sale Update
This week His Eminence Metropolitan Nathanael of Chicago formally approved the sale of our property in Dyer following the decision of our Special Parish Assembly in January. It will still take some time for the sale to close, dependent on the due diligence of the prospective buyers.
50th Wedding Anniversarty/85th Birthday
Due to the Pandemic, we stopped our long practice of honoring couples on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary or persons on their 85th birthday. If you know of a couple or person that has not been rightly honored, please inform us through the Parish Office or contact Father David directly.
Although we honor couples and persons once (and it may occur "after the fact" if not done at the time), we do make an exception for those reaching their 100th year as well.
Parish Email List:
If you have not been receiving our emails, please forward your email address to our Parish Office. The Sunday Parish Bulletin with all updates and activities will be sent to each email on our list on the evening of the Friday before. Submissions or requests for Parish-wide emails should be directed to Father David.
