SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY It’s time to learn about another Saint this morning! Mrs. Smitherman and Mrs. Flanzala have a special class planned for students of all ages today. They are focusing on the Saints whose images adorn the nave. Then, when the children are in church, they will better know the company of Saints surrounding them and praying for us all!

NEXT SUNDAY – SUNDAY SCHOOL KIDS & PARENTS This week ask mom or dad for a job that will allow you to spend $10-$15 on a new toy for a kid your age. Go shopping and find a neat, new toy and bring it next Sunday. If you do this, St. Nicholas will know for sure and leave a little reward in your shoes next Sunday morning for imitating his own kindness to you and others. See you then…

XRONIA POLLA! December is a month rich in Feast Days. This Wednesday is the Feast of both St. Barbara and St. John of Damascus. On Friday, it is the Feast Day of St. Nicholas of Myra and on Saturday, it is the Feast Day of St. Ambrose. Many years to each of our brothers and sisters who celebrate their Name Day this week or have loved ones named for these great Saints!

WE’RE IN THE MIDST OF THE ADVENT FAST NOW Forty days of preparation for Christ’s Birth—and, now, just twenty-four days until the Feast of our Lord’s Holy Nativity. Let’s do our best to prepared for Christ’s coming birth. This fast is lighter than most—it allows for the consumption of fish on all days except Wednesday and Friday and then from December 13-24 we omit eating fish on these days until the Holy Nativity Feast. Lenten guidelines omit the eating of meat and dairy (including eggs) throughout Advent. Shellfish, legumes, vegetables, fruits, vegetable oil, grains, nuts—all these foods are acceptable Lenten fare. Blessed Advent to all! The bookstore has Lenten cookbooks available if you are looking for ideas.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST VISIT TO ST. GEORGE? If you are visiting our parish this morning, welcome! Orthodox Church tradition encourages Orthodox Christians in good standing with the Church to approach the Holy Chalice for Communion... however, if you are not Orthodox, we ask that you please refrain. All worshipers are welcome to receive antidoron (a piece of blessed bread) immediately following the Divine Liturgy. Please stay for fellowship hour that we might get to know you.

WORSHIPING THE TRUE & LIVING GOD Worshiping the Living God, the All-Holy Trinity, is a witness of our faith in and love for Him. The Divine Liturgy is the service of thanksgiving to God. The Divine Liturgy is also the service of particular nurture for the Orthodox Christian--Christ is Present in the elements of Holy Communion. He nurtures those who approach with fear (reverence), faith and love. Those who partake of Communion receive God within. This is a great Mystery, not to be taken lightly, but one that the Orthodox Christian is bid to COME. Please avail yourself of the opportunities to worship the Lord and to receive Him in faith.

VALET PARKING Some parishioners have difficulty walking distances and find it hard to park near enough to the church on Sunday mornings.  If this applies to you, please do the following: park in the loading zone in front of the church, and come indoors with your car key and ask in the office for someone to park the car for you and you will be assisted.  We are here to help one another.  Please ask for help if needed.  Thank you.

NAME DAYS If you would like to participate in a Divine Liturgy on your Name Day, please let Fr. Leo know to arrange this beforehand.

SPECIAL PRAYER SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED Fr. can meet you here at the church and offer particular prayers for you if you are going to be traveling or are preparing to have medical procedures done (hospitalization, etc.) He is available to make hospital visits and will routinely visit those in convalescent care. Please arrange with him according to need. Thank you.

Nahum the Prophet

The Prophet Nahum had Elkesaeus (Elkosh) as his homeland, and was from the tribe of Symeon; he is seventh in order among the twelve Minor Prophets He prophesied during the time of Hezekias, after the destruction of Samaria (721 years before Christ), but before the ten tribes were taken into captivity; he prophesied against Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. His name means "comforter." His book of prophecy is divided into three chapters.

Philaret the Merciful of Amnia

Saint Philaret a native of Paphlagonia in Asia Minor, was a virtuous Christian layman who lived in lawful wedlock and raised a family. He was most renowned for his generosity to all in need. With the permission of God, in a short space of time he lost the greater part of his possessions to theft and other misfortunes and was left with nothing but his family, his home, and a little livestock. Yet he continued to give generously to the poor despite the faint-heartedness of his family, who reproached him for giving alms when they were in need themselves; and God, seeing his faith, restored his prosperity to him many times over. He foresaw the day of his death, and reposed in an odour of sanctity in Constantinople in 789.

Brethren, Christ is our peace, who has made us both one, and has broken down the dividing wall of hostility, by abolishing in his flesh the law of commandments and ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby bringing the hostility to an end. And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near; for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.
