WE ENCOURAGE THE PARISH FAMILY TO COME TO CHURCH If your heart longs to be in Church, to worship God and to receive Him in the Holy Eucharist, by all means come to church. There is room to social distance and wear a mask. Those who have been attending recently have found being together and receiving Christ to be supremely comforting.
We understand why some people have felt the need to remain absent but we hope those who have absented themselves will soon venture out and return. The Eucharist is central to our lives and on Sunday mornings it is offered here at St. George. That is the one thing—the most important thing--that is unavailable through an on-line church service.
All are welcome at this point and we hope to see more parishioners each Sunday. God bless!
COFFEE HOUR fellowship is suspended yet for a while. We hope it won’t be much longer. We all miss each other and pray that things will be back to normal before long—God grant it!
THANK GOD FOR ALL OUR FATHERS who shelter and care for their families, who bring their children to church, who sponsor others as a Godparent, who give an example of love and humility to those around them. Thank God, too, for the Holy Fathers, those who wrote beautiful and edifying words of wisdom and guidance for people of all ages. Thank God for the Father Himself, who never stops loving and caring for His children, who hears their prayers and shares their every grief and sorrow in this life. Pray for fathers and uphold them as the foundation stones, along with mothers, of civil society. Thank you, dear God, for our fathers! Blessed Father’s Day!
REMINDER We are in the midst of the Apostles’ Fast. Fish can be eaten during this fasting period on all days but Wednesdays and Fridays. The Fast concludes on Monday 29 June, with the Feast Day of Ss. Peter & Paul.
SPECIAL COMMEMORATIONS THIS WEEK Wednesday, June 24, the Church remembers the Nativity of St. John the Forerunner (Baptist).
NEW MEMBERS AND A PRAYER REQUEST We welcome the Bingham family—Phil, Esther and Mattie—to our St. George family! Phil and Esther are Orthodox Christians, Mattie (Esther's sister) is a catechumen.
The Binghams, who live in Dexter, suffered a fire in the building where they live last Friday night. They did not lose their possessions, but they have been displaced and there is a question as to whether their home will be habitable again. It was Phil who noticed the start of a fire in the apartment above and alerted 911. His quick action saved others and mitigated damage. Please pray for them and if you know of housing available in their area, please let the Binghams or Fr. Leo know. Thank you.
ACHIEVEMENTS OF ORTHODOX AMONG US Eastport Arts Center has awarded Nia (Eugenia) Aratakis, recent graduate of Washington Academy, their Outstanding Senior Student in Visual Arts honor. NEW YORK – The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is announcing a new ten-episode video series introducing the faithful to the new Policies for the Safety of Children and Youth. These new resources also include step-by-step checklists designed to help parishioners and communities follow the new guidelines.
The implementation and enforcement of the Policies for the Safety of Children and Youth take another step forward towards the goal of ensuring that every ministry and event is physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe and healthy for the children of all Greek Orthodox Churches in America.
