Holy Communion Announcement: The Communion line is to be formed in the center aisle, and once you receive depart to the right or to the left. Please enter the center aisle once the Parish Council members indicate that it is time for people in your pew to proceed. Parents of infants and toddlers, and anyone with special needs may come to the front of the line first. Please refrain from talking and be respectful and prayerful during this sacred moment of the service. Thank you. Please further note that Holy Communion will not be administered after the Divine Liturgy.

Beefsteak Dinner, Saturday, November 4^th:

The St. George Parish Council will be hosting this event. The cost is $45 per person in advance and includes beer and soda. BYO wine and liquor. At the door tickets will be $50 and children 12 and under are $30. We will be raffling Gift Basket prizes. Please consider making a donation to the church to purchase gifts for this event.

Sunday Church School:

All classes begin after Holy Communion. Please remember to arrive promptly for the start of Liturgy each Sunday at 9:30. Classes will end promptly at 12:00. Remember to register your children! A registration fee of $40 is collected from each family. Our friendly dinosaur bank is back again and he is looking for donations for the victims of Hurricane Irma. Please encourage your children to “feed” the dinosaur with change that they save throughout the week. All money collected will be sent to the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) where it will be used to offer hurricane relief to the many victims.

Golf Classic Fundraiser:

Come out and support the first Leonidas Vagias Memorial Golf Classic on October 23rd! Whether you would like to play a round of golf, be a sponsor, or join us for our post golf dinner, there are many ways to contribute to this great event! Please complete the enclosed form and return to the address found on the bottoom. All proceeds support The Leonidas Foundation and St. George. The organizing committee is looking for donations for our Golf Fundraiser. In particular we are looking for tickets for sporting events and/or a timeshare vacation. If any of our parishioners have access to “season tickets” or own a timeshare, please consider donating tickets for a game or a stay at a timeshare. St. George Beautification Program:

Our Church’s Capital Improvements Campaign continues to move forward. The installation of new flooring inside the church along with the stuning double-headed eagle is complete. The installation of new pews and carpeting will begin soon. This beautification campaign has a goal of raising $200,000 over the next three years. A key component of this campaign is the participation of each of our members, remembering that we are all part of God’s Church. Please read the enclosed flyer for more information. We have secured a loan to complete the projects and the capital campaign contributions will be used to repay the loan. Thank you for your support.

Greek Cultural, Musical & Dance Experience:

St. George GOYA is pleased to present a unique experience featuring Hellenic Roots Foundation. Join us on Sunday, November 26^th from 2:00pm–5:00pm in the gym for an afternoon of dance workshops from various regions of Greece taught by Petro Fourniotis Laskar, Executive Director of the Hellenic Roots Foundation. Workshop is FREE and open to all current and past GOYAns and their parents (please no children under age 12). Snacks and refreshments will be served.

Brethren, you are the temple of the living God; as God said, "I will live in them and move among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from them, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch nothing unclean; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty."

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, and make holiness perfect in the fear of God.

The Holy Protection of the Theotokos

The Feast of the Protection commemorates the appearance of the most holy Theotokos in the Church of Blachernae in Constantinople in the early sixth century, as recorded in the life of Saint Andrew the Fool for Christ's sake. While the multitudes of the faithful were gathered in church, Epiphanius, the friend of Saint Andrew, through the Saint's prayers, beheld the Virgin Mary above the faithful and spreading out her veil over them, signifying her unceasing protection of all Christians. Because of this we keep a yearly feast of gratitude, imploring our Lady never to cease sheltering us in her mighty prayers.

In the Greek tradition, this feast is celebrated on October 28, while in the Slavic tradition, this feast is celebrated on October 1.

Ananias, Apostle of the 70

Saint Ananias, whose name means "God is gracious," was from Damascus, where by divine revelation he was commanded to baptize the Apostle Paul (Acts 9: 10-17). He completed the course of martyrdom when he was stoned to death during the proconsulate of Lucian.

Romanos the Melodist

Saint Romanos flourished during the reign of Anastasius (491-518). He was from Emesa of Syria, and apparently was born of Jewish parents, for a hymn written in his honour in Greek says he was "of Hebrew stock," and it has furthermore been noted that he uses many Semitic idioms in his writings. He was baptized an Orthodox Christian, and at some time became a deacon in the Church of Beirut. He was the first composer of the kontakia, the foremost of which is that of the feast of Christ's Nativity, On this day the Virgin .... In composing many of his kontakia. Saint Romanos was inspired by the hymns of Saint Ephraim of Syria.

Dionysios the Areopagite

This Saint was from Athens, a learned man, and a member of the famous judicial court of Mars Hill (in Greek Aeros Pagos, hence the name Areopagite (see Acts 17:19-34). When Saint Paul preached in Athens, he was one of the first there to believe in Christ, and, according to some, became the first bishop of that city. Others say -- and this may be more probable--that he was the second Bishop of Athens, after Saint Hierotheus, whom Dionysios calls his friend and teacher "after Paul" (On the Divine Names, 3:2). With Saint Hierotheus he was also present at the Dormition of the most holy Theotokos; the Doxasticon of the Aposticha for the service of the Dormition is partly taken from a passage in Chapter III of On the Divine Names. According to ancient tradition, he received a martyr's end (according to some, in Athens itself) about the year 96.
