WE WELCOME EVERYONE TO OUR COMMUNITY!

****Additionally, in order to preserve the sanctity of the Divine Liturgy, please wait to light candles in the St. Nectarios Chapel at the correct time. If one arrives after the Great Entrance, they will have to wait until the end of Liturgy, while the Andithoron is being given out, to light candles in the Chapel.

St. Paraskevi Philoptochos Sandwich Sunday:
On Sunday, December 15th, after liturgy, the Philoptochos is making sandwiches in the upstairs kitchen. Sandwich Sundays, was begun with the goal of preparing sandwiches for the homeless. We try to make a minimum of 225 sandwiches each time. Anyone interested in making a donation to defray the cost, please complete a donation form and return it to the office. It is a wonderful way to remember a loved one, or a special occasion. This month sandwiches are being donated in memory of our brothers and sisters of the St. George community that have fallen asleep in the Lord this past year. If anyone would like to help prepare the sandwiches, please come to the upstairs kitchen directly after church. Sandwiches are currently delivered to the St. Paul's Men's Shelter. Feeding the hungry is an important tenet of our mission to help the needy.

Sponsor A Day Program:
In the New Year 2020 our ambitious goal is to meet our operating budget through Stewardship. It is estimated that the operating expenses of our church average to be $1,400 per steward/family. If this average were to be reached, then the Church would be able to pay all its bills only with Stewardship donations and no other monies. All other funds collected from candles, trays, raffles, fundraisers, etc. could be used towards capital improvements. One way to bridge the gap in the meantime is through our “Sponsor a Day” program. We encourage our parishioners to select a day that has special meaning to them like a birthday, feast day, anniversary or a memorial and make a $250 donation. All donors will be recognized on a calendar located in our atrium. We would like to recognize Nick and Lisa Marcopoulos for sponsoring December 6th in honor of the feast day of St. Nicholas and the Papadakos Family along with the Kyriazis-Loeser family for sponsoring December 12th in honor of the feast day of St. Spyridon. With the advent season upon us please consider sponsoring the following feast days: the Nativity of our Lord, St. Stephen, St. Basil, the Epiphany or St. John the Baptist. Please contact the church office for more information. Remember that as Orthodox Christians, we are also stewards of our Church family – those with whom we worship, fellowship and serve the community. In the same way that we care for our immediate family, we also care for our Christian brothers.
‘Tis the Season for the Angel Tree!
Parishioners are invited to select an Angel from our Christmas Tree and purchase the item mentioned. Gifts should be returned no later than Sunday, December 15th. Please be sure to tape the Angel tag to the outside of the box and place the gift under the Christmas tree. The wrapped gifts will be picked up by the Resource Development Office in Paterson and the unwrapped gifts will be donated to Warm the Children. Monetary donations for Warm the Children will also be accepted in the Church office to help defray shipping costs. We thank all of you for your generosity during this joyous season!
St. Peter’s Haven Christmas Toy Drive:
Donated toys can be left in the donation box outside the back church office. We are asking for a toy value of $10 or more. Please indicate on the outside of the wrapped gift if it is for a boy or a girl and the age group. Thank you for your generosity during this Christmas season.
IOCC Christmas Cards:
Our Church School children are teaming up with the Philoptochos to create beautiful IOCC Christmas Cards. The children created the cards and they will be offered for sale to the community for $5.00 each. Family names will be added and the cards will be displayed in the upstairs Church hall. All money raised will go directly to the IOCC. Please support this worthwhile project and help us teach our children to think of others.
Christmas Caroling/Kalanda:
The Daughters of Penelope along with the Maids of Athena will be Christmas caroling and spreading joy to our beloved Saint George parishioners and beyond. Your generous donations will go to the many charities that we support. We welcome the opportunity to visit your homes and sing inspiring Christmas carols and Greek Kalanda on Sunday, Dec. 15th from 2-6 pm or Saturday, Dec. 21st from 2-6 pm. Email Konstantina at papadakosk@yahoo.com with the following: Name, Date/time, Address and Phone Number. Thank you for your support.
Security System and Office Computer Upgrades:
We are kindly asking for donations from our community that will be used to install a Door Access Control System on the church doors and for three new office computers. The cost for the new computers and installation is $3,300 and the remaining $6,700 is for the Door System. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. We have a long way to go but we are very grateful to the following for their generous donations thus far: Mr. Evan Zaros, Ms. Dina Papadakos, The Orthodox Life Institute, Mrs. Linda Chelius, Mr. & Mrs. Nick & Lisa Marcopulos, Dr. Peter Salierno, Mrs. Morfia Sokolic, Mr. Evan Zaros, Mr. & Mrs. Emanuel & Maria Karras, Mr. & Mrs. Ross & Antionette Halkias, Mr. & Mrs. Sam & Maria Arvanites, Mrs. Helen Therianos, Mrs. Diana Pitsikoulis, Mr. & Mrs. Bill & Stella Kopellas.
Stewardship 2019:
Thank you to all of our Stewards who have made their pledges and donations so far for 2019. Our Saint George parish depends upon your generous donations to envision our goals and enhance our ministries and outreach. So please don’t forget to submit your 2019 Stewardship Pledge card. We currently have 285 stewards and we are hoping to reach our goal of 350 stewards for 2019! Pledge cards can be found in the Narthex, Atrium or Church office.
