Greek School Graduation:
On Thursday, May 27, our St. George Greek School met virtually again to celebrate the end of our school year! All of our students in Pre K - 6th were recognized and everyone in attendance viewed all of the Greek School classes' end of the year performance in a pre-recorded video that was created once again by our first grade teacher, K. Matina - who we thank for her personal time and talents! We sincerely appreciate all of our Parents, Students and especially Teachers, for their commitment to our Greek School this year despite the challenges we all faced. Though our Greek School was remote this past year, our teachers continued their professional development in teaching the Greek language with various online platforms and our students showed resilience with the new, innovative ways of learning! In turn, all of our students completed a very successful and memorable Greek School year, and we are all so proud of them!
Congratulations to our 2021 Greek School Graduates: Ioanna Hatzaras, Anthula Koleros and Jayden Papasavas.
Church School Volunteers:
We remain indebted and are thankful for our dedicated teaching staff who have stepped up and done an amazing job offering online religious education classes for our students during an unprecedented year. As we plan ahead and anticipate a more traditional Church School year in September, we are reaching out for volunteers to join our team. No teaching experience is needed to help make a difference in the life of a child! All are welcome. Please email us at: churchschool@stgeorgeclifton.org if you are interested or would simply like more information. Thank you!
St. George Endowment Fund Scholarship:
The Endowment Committee will be awarding three memorial scholarships to graduating high school seniors from our community in the name of Aspasia Smith, the endowment fund’s original benefactor. In light of the pandemic, the deadline has been extended to June 30, 2021 and the awards will be presented in November. For more information about the memorial scholarship, please inquire at the church office.
Saturday of Souls:
Will be on June 9th. Please bring your own dish of Koliva to the church by 8:45am and place it on the table and submit your list of names with your offering. If you would like to order Koliva, we are asking for a contribution of $20 per order which will be for a large communal tray of Koliva. Please contact the church office and make arrangements by Thursday before the Saturday of Souls. 973-779-2626 or office@stgeorgeclifton.org.
Sponsor A Day Program:
As a church community, it is our ambitious goal to meet our operating budget through Stewardship. It is estimated that the operating expenses of our church average to be $1,400 per steward/family. If this average were to be reached, then the Church would be able to pay all its bills only with Stewardship donations. All other funds collected from candles, trays, raffles, fundraisers, etc. could be used towards capital improvements. One way to bridge the gap is through our “Sponsor a Day” program. We encourage our parishioners to select a day that has special meaning to them like a birthday, feastday, anniversary or a memorial and make a $250 donation. We want to thank Nicholas Gregoriou for sponsoring May 29th in memory of Irene Gregoriou. Remember that as Orthodox Christians, we are also stewards of our Church family – those with whom we worship, fellowship and serve the community. In the same way that we care for our immediate family, we also care for our Christian brothers. For more information about the program, speak to one of our Parish Council members, Ministry Leaders or call the church office.
