The mission of our beloved parish of St. George is to put into practice our Orthodox faith for our spiritual growth while creating fellowship and ministries for all the faithful. It should be our mission to spread the word of the Gospel and build harmony and love within the community and be the example of our Orthodox faith for our youth.
WE WELCOME EVERYONE TO OUR COMMUNITY!
We are grateful that you have joined us for prayer and worship. Please join us after the Divine Services in our Fellowship Hall for a Lenten Fasolatha Luncheon hosted by our St. Paraskevi Philoptochos Society.

Sunday Memorials, Artoclasias and Other Blessings:
Please inform the church office well in advance of Sunday mornings for all memorials, artoclasias, 40-day blessings and other blessings so as not to disrupt the Divine Liturgy. If any requests or lists of names are received after the Great Entrance they will have to wait until the following Sunday.

If one arrives after the Great Entrance, they will have to wait until the end of Liturgy, while the Andithoron is being given out, to light candles in the Chapel.

Senior Division Oratorical Festival – March 27th:
The Oratorical Festival is an annual, national event started by our own Presbytera Margaret Orfanakos over 35 years ago. Youths are challenged to explore a deeper knowledge of our Orthodox faith, think critically about current issues and speak to a gentle and loving audience. Participants choose from among 5 topics to write a 3-5 minute speech. First, second and third place winners are selected in both junior (7th – 9th grade) and senior (10th – 12th grade) divisions. Parish winners can advance to the district, metropolis and then national level if they qualify. Finalists are eligible to receive a Chrysostom Scholarship to Hellenic College. This scholarship provides awards ranging from $2,500 up to $30,000 per year. Registration is FREE and can be done online at: https://religioused.formstack.com/forms/sjcof_participant. For more information one can also contact Morfia Sokolic at msokolic@verizon.net.
Archbishop Elpidophoros Launches GOARCH Ukraine Relief Fund:
On Wednesday evening, March 2, 2022, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros was conferred an honorary doctorate of the Department of Greek Philology by the Democritus University of Thrace. In his speech, the Archbishop addressed the crisis in Ukraine, reaffirming solidarity with Ukrainians and announcing a major fundraising effort to help those most affected by the Russian invasion. The GOARCH Ukrainian Relief Fund, established in collaboration with the IOCC, aims to raise $1 million for both immediate and long-term support of the Ukrainian people. Early today, His Eminence also donated $100,000 to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, on behalf of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, to support the efforts of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

St. George Community Lenten Project:
It is a great honor and privilege to launch the second campaign of the Community Lenten Project. This year, we are focusing on one issue that transcends most others, food insecurity. For the four weeks prior to Palm Sunday, we will be collecting food items. Our project kicks off next Sunday, March 20th. That Sunday we are collecting breakfast items, including cereals, oatmeal, granola bars, boxed milk. Please remember those less fortunate when you visit the supermarket. Your donations can be dropped off by the rear door of the church office in the designated container. Thank you for your generosity. At the end of the fourth week, we intend to weigh and sort all the foods we have collected. Depending on how generous our Saint George community is, we hope to make donations to 4 or 5 local food pantries. Also, if anyone wishes to purchase supermarket gift cards, they would be most welcome. Thank you all for your anticipated assistance in making this Lenten project a success. If you have any questions or comments, please email Helga Diamandopoulos at helgad28@yahoo.com.
Sponsor A Day Program:
As a church community, it is our ambitious goal to meet our operating budget through Stewardship. It is estimated that the operating expenses of our church average to be $1,400 per steward/family. If this average were to be reached, then the Church would be able to pay all its expenses only with Stewardship donations. All other funds collected from candles, trays, raffles, fundraisers, etc. could be used towards capital improvements. One way to bridge the gap is through our “Sponsor a Day” program. We encourage our parishioners to select a day that has special meaning to them like a birthday, feast day, anniversary or a memorial and make a $250 donation. Remember that as Orthodox Christians, we are also stewards of our Church family – those with whom we worship, fellowship and serve the community. For more information about the program, speak to one of our Parish Council members, Ministry Leaders or call the church office.
We would like to thank the following:
- The Anastos family for sponsoring March 8th in honor of their father, Tom Foukas, on his 93rd birthday.
- The Daughters of Penelope Kronos #188 for sponsoring March 25th in honor of the Feast Day of the Annunciation of the Theotokos and Greek Independence Day.
Please consider sponsoring these upcoming feast days: March 15th – St. Agapios, March 17th – St. Patrick & St. Alexis the Man of God.
