Liberator of captives, defender of the poor, physician of the sick, and champion of kings, O trophy-bearer, Great Martyr George, intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved.
Prokeimenon. Second Tone. Psalm 117.14,18.
The Lord is my strength and my song.
Verse: The Lord has chastened me sorely.
The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 11:31-33; 12:1-9.
Brethren, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for ever, knows that I do not lie. At Damascus, the governor under King Aretas guarded the city of Damascus in order to seize me, but I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped his hands.
I must boast; there is nothing to be gained by it, but I will go on to visions and revelations of the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven -- whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into Paradise --whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows -- and he heard things that cannot be told, which man may not utter. On behalf of this man I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of my weaknesses. Though if I wish to boast, I shall not be a fool, for I shall be speaking the truth. But I refrain from it, so that no one may think more of me than he sees in me or hears from me. And to keep me from being too elated by the abundance of revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to harass me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I besought the Lord about this, that it should leave me; but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." I will all the more gladly boast of my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Second Tone.
3rd Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 7:11-16
At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"
3rd Sunday of Luke

ICONOGRAPHY PROJECT UPDATE
There is good news to share on the Iconography Project. Later this month, the iconography team will be arriving to begin work on the beautification of our beloved Church. They will begin the project by working on the Pantokratera (dome) in the St. Efstratios Chapel. Then in early November through December, they’ll move to the main Church to install the iconography on the walls, including the Pendentives, Arch over the Solea – and the Pantokratera in the dome. Please keep in mind that during these two months the church will be closed and Liturgy will be held in our Cultural Center. We are extremely hopeful however, that we will be able to celebrate Christmas in the Church.
We’re pleased with the results of the fundraising efforts to date, and want to thank all those who donated. But, we have a ways to go before all the monies are raised. This is a community effort and there are many ways all our parishioners can participate. Icons are still available for gifting. A Gold Leaf program has been initiated where you can buy one or more sheets of gold leaf as a donation or to memorialize a loved one. There will be a community fundraising reception on November 17, 2018 in our Cultural Center. Please join us and meet the iconographers, and see demonstrations of icon painting techniques. In addition, a raffle will be held, with the winner receiving a hand painted icon of their choice. More information about these programs is available in the Pangari or you can contact Jeff Michals at michals297@msn.com or 732-539-7302
Iconography is a critical part of our religious heritage. In the coming weeks and months, Father Andrew will be discussing the importance of iconography to our religious heritage. On November 4th, he will do a teaching liturgy where he’ll explain different icons and their relevance to our Greek Orthodox faith and Church. This will be the last day that Liturgy will be held in the church until the first phase is complete. Iconography brings us one step closer to the Consecration of our St. George Orthodox Church. We need our entire community to be part of this important element of our Church’s life.

THE SPIRIT OF STEWARDSHIP
"As the Father has sent Me, so I send you." John 20:21
According to the Bible, Stewards manage their gifts for Our Lord's work. When we support our Church, we give back to God His rightful portion. Is Stewardship merely a token donation? Or is your Stewardship pledge a meaningful response to Christ? Christian Stewardship is Orthodox! It is not just giving our time or our talents or our treasures. It is, rather, all three! Stewardship is koinonia... fellowship... sharing together in the body and blood of Jesus Christ. Stewardship is diakonia... serving Christ. We offer our services and talents to Christ. Stewardship is also martyria... witnessing. Christian Stewardship is all three elements - time, talent, and treasure. It’s our gift as Christ instructed, as caretaker and defender of His Church with all of our energy and ability.
Life Happens in Community!
Thank you to all our faithful stewards for your support of our
St. George Stewardship Program!
If not you – who? If not now – when?
Time + Talent + Treasure = Stewardship!
