SUNDAY SERVICE

All are welcome at St. Nectarios!  Our Services are mainly in English. Orthodox faithful from many backgrounds/countries worship in our church.  During Services (Divine Liturgy and Typica), we do the Lord's Prayer in all the languages represented by the faithful celebrating the Service.

This Sunday, Saint Nectarios - Pasco will celebrate an in-church Typica Service starting at 10AM.

A light-snack fellowship time will follow.  It is just so great to be back in Church and sharing fellowship time with our new and old friends.

Special thanks to Rev. Daniel Triant for celebrating Divine Liturgy with us last Saturday.  Fellowship time will folow.  Father Daniel serves at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Spokane.

A Memorial Service for Helen Pinkston was held after the Saturday Divine Liturgy.  The Service may be viewed using the link:

St Nectarios has a mixture of in church and on-line Services. Each month, there are usualy two in-Church Services: a Saturday Divine Liturgy and a Sunday Typica Service.  The celebration of most on-line Services is conducted by Fr. John Angelis (in Seattle, WA) and the St. Nectarios Choir/Readers/Volunteers (in the Tri-Cities, WA). These on-line Services allows Father John to join us for Services without requiring travel to the Tricities.

The faithful may view/participate in the online Services on the Saint Nectarios-Pasco Group on Facebook.  Online Services will be streamed and posted after they are complete. For many of the Services, the text is included to help the faithful follow the Service. To view Saint Nectarios Services, pictures, and other postings on Facebook Group “Saint Nectarios – Pasco” use the link:

Message from Father John

Fatherjohn01

2ND SUNDAY OF SAINT MATTHEW

Jesus said to His first Disciples, “follow me!”

Peter, Andrew and the sons of Zebedee,

Left their nets, their boats and their father,

And followed Jesus immediately, to go farther.

Jesus did not promise His followers riches or glory;

He promised them, He’ll make them fishers of men, only.

They believed Him and His promise,

And followed Him without other notice.

His words had authority and sincerity.

They were pure, divine in their entirety.

They did not weigh logically their decision.

What material consequences will suffer or derision.

They were thirsting in their life for something better

And they discovered it in front of them, there.

They followed their Teacher from village to village,

As He taught the words of life, not mere verbiage.

He taught with Godly authority and also healed,

He loved the people, fed them and their illness healed.

The people followed Him eagerly by the droves.

On  the countryside and mountains and lake shores.

Jesus rarely preached in Temples and Cathedrals.

The open air, the mountains,, the lakes were His cathedrals.

He quoted from the Book of His Father,

And He illustrated it powerfully from his other.

The latter book His listeners knew better,

Because they lived it daily, as the weather.

God blessed their life with both of them.

That’s why he sent also His beloved Son to them.

Our Church read this lesson to us this Sunday,

To urge us to follow our Lord eagerly, also on Monday.

Not to let possessions or persons to get in the way.

To mislead us in life and cause us to lose God’s way.

The Apostles accepted and followed Christ’s call,

And reached their glorious destination, as all.

They have become our light and good example,

With love,

Fr. John P. Angelis

David the Righteous of Thessalonika

Saint David, who was from Thessalonica, lived a most holy and ascetical life. For some years, he took up his dwelling in the branches of an almond tree, exposed to all the elements and extremes of the weather. He reposed in peace during the reign of Saint Justinian the Great, in the sixth century.

Appearance of the Icon of Our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos of Tikhvin

According to one tradition, this icon was painted by Saint Luke the Evangelist. It was formerly situated in the famous Church of Blachernae in Constantinople. In 1383, it appeared upon the waters of Lake Ladoga, whence it travelled miraculously through the air to the city of Tikhvin; there, it remained by the River Tikhvinka, and a monastery was built to shelter the icon. In 1613-14 this monastery miraculously withstood the many attacks of the Swedish invaders. In the early twentieth century it was brought to America and was returned to Russia in 2004. The holy icon is renowned for a great many miracles wrought through it by the all-holy Mother of God, especially for the healing of children.

Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the First Tone

Although the stone was sealed by the Jews, and the soldiers guarded Your most pure body, You arose on the third day, O Savior, giving life to the world. For this reason, the heavenly powers cried out to you, O Giver of Life: Glory to Your resurrection, O Christ! Glory to Your kingdom! Glory to Your dispensation, only Lover of Mankind!

Apolytikion for the Church in the First Tone

The Offspring of Selyvria and Guardian of Aegina, the true friend of virtue who appeared in the last years. Oh Nectarios we faithful honor you as a godly servant of Christ! For you bring forth healings of every kind for those who piously cry out: Glory to Christ who has glorified you, Glory to him who made you wondrous, glory to him who workest healings for all through you.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Tone

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. First Tone. Psalm 32.22,1.
Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.
Verse: Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16.

Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

Gospel Reading

2nd Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 4:18-23

At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.
