St. Nectarios Service Information

Overview of St. Nectarios Services

St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Mission Church
627 West Bonneville St, Pasco WA 99301
Facebook: 'Saint Nectarios - Pasco Group'
Phone: (509) 547-3968.

St Nectarios has a mixture of in church and on-line Services. Each month, there are usualy two in-Church Services: a Saturday Divine Liturgy and a Sunday Typica Service.  The celebration of most on-line Services is conducted by Fr. John Angelis (in Seattle, WA) and the St. Nectarios Choir/Readers/Volunteers (in the Tri-Cities, WA). These on-line Services allows Father John to join us for Services without requiring travel to the Tricities.

The faithful may view/participate in the online Services on the Saint Nectarios-Pasco Group on Facebook.  Online Services will be streamed and posted after they are complete. For many of the Services, the text is included to help the faithful follow the Service. To view Saint Nectarios Services, pictures, and other postings on Facebook Group “Saint Nectarios – Pasco” use the link:

The long term goal for St. Nectarios - Pasco  is to have regular in-church Sunday Liturgy Services along with a Sunday School.

Message from Father John

Weekly Message

The All-Seeing God
There is an icon of “an eye” over the royal door, on the iconostasis (Icon screen) in some churches.  It symbolizes the “all-seeing God.” That nothing escapes his sight. The prayer to the Holy Spirit refers to Him as “...Present everywhere and filling all things…”

God sees and hears everything we do and say

The saying, “ like an eye, the righteous God sees all things”  refers to our life on earth. God sees all our thoughts and actions.  The “zoom program” reminded me of this reality, because the camera catches all the movements and records all the sounds  of the speaker.  In the gospel lesson for judgment Sunday, there is a reference to the final judgment, when this world will come to an end and our judgment will take place. Then our record of deeds on earth would be opened and we will be judged according to what we have done and said on earth. This reminded  me of the court scene when the charges against a criminal are read.

Since we do not know the date and time of God‘s judgment, we should repent for our sins daily and ask his forgiveness. Only in this way, God will clear our sinful record. We have a gracious God, our father in heaven, who loves us and forgives us when we sincerely repent and confess our sins. His apostle also told us not to go to bed unreconciled, having something against our spouse, children, or our  fellow man.

Having repented and made our confession, having been forgiven and reconciled, we will pray to God with a spirit of gratitude and  thanksgiving; and we would look at Him, like a child looks as his mother, who is there to help and protect him.

With love, Fr. John P. Angelis

Christina the Great Martyr of Tyre

Saint Christina was from Tyre in Syria, the daughter of a pagan named Urban. Enlightened in her heart to believe in Christ, she broke her father's idols, made of gold and silver, and distributed the pieces to the poor. When her father learned this, he punished her ruthlessly, then cast her into prison. The rulers subjected her to imprisonments, hunger, torments, the cutting off of her breasts and tongue, and finally impalement, in the year 200, during the reign of the Emperor Septimius Severus.

Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal First Tone

O Faithful, let us sing a hymn of praise and worship to the Logos, coeternal with the Father and the Spirit, who was born of the Virgin for our salvation. Of His own will He went upon the Cross in the flesh and suffered death, to raise the dead through His glorious Resurrection.

Apolytikion for Great Martyr Christina in the Fourth Tone

O Lord Jesus, unto Thee Thy lamb doth cry with a great voice: O my Bridegroom, Thee I love; and seeking Thee, I now contest, and with Thy baptism am crucified and buried. I suffer for Thy sake, that I may reign with Thee; for Thy sake I die, that I may live in Thee: accept me offered out of longing to Thee as a spotless sacrifice. Lord, save our souls through her intercessions, since Thou art great in mercy.

Apolytikion for the Church in the First Tone

The Offspring of Selyvria and Guardian of Aegina, the true friend of virtue who appeared in the last years. Oh Nectarios we faithful honor you as a godly servant of Christ! For you bring forth healings of every kind for those who piously cry out: Glory to Christ who has glorified you, Glory to him who made you wondrous, glory to him who workest healings for all through you.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Tone

O Protection of Christians that cannot be put to shame, mediation unto the creator most constant: O despise not the voices of those who have sinned; but be quick, O good one, to come unto our aid, who in faith cry unto thee: Hasten to intercession and speed thou to make supplication, O thou who dost ever protect, O Theotokos, them that honor thee.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal First Tone. Psalm 11.7,1.
You, O Lord, shall keep us and preserve us.
Verse: Save me, O Lord, for the godly man has failed.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 12:6-14.

Brethren, having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; he who teaches, in his teaching; he who exhorts, in his exhortation; he who contributes, in liberality; he who gives aid, with zeal; he who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness. Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good; love one another with brotherly affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Never flag in zeal, be aglow with the Spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in your hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints, practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.

Gospel Reading

6th Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 9:1-8

At that time, getting into a boat Jesus crossed over and came to his own city. And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed; and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." And behold, some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming." But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, "Why do you think evil in your hearts? For which is easier, to say 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say 'Rise and walk?' But that you may know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins" he then said to the paralytic -- "Rise, take up your bed and go home." And he rose and went home. When the crowds saw it, they were afraid, and they glorified God, who had given such authority to men.
