St. Nectarios Service Information

Overview of St. Nectarios Services

St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Mission Church
627 West Bonneville St, Pasco WA 99301
Facebook: 'Saint Nectarios - Pasco Group'
Phone: (509) 547-3968.

St Nectarios has a mixture of in church and on-line Services. Each month, there are usualy two in-Church Services: a Saturday Divine Liturgy and a Sunday Typica Service.  The celebration of most on-line Services is conducted by Fr. John Angelis (in Seattle, WA) and the St. Nectarios Choir/Readers/Volunteers (in the Tri-Cities, WA). These on-line Services allows Father John to join us for Services without requiring travel to the Tricities.

The faithful may view/participate in the online Services on the Saint Nectarios-Pasco Group on Facebook.  Online Services will be streamed and posted after they are complete. For many of the Services, the text is included to help the faithful follow the Service. To view Saint Nectarios Services, pictures, and other postings on Facebook Group “Saint Nectarios – Pasco” use the link:

The long term goal for St. Nectarios - Pasco  is to have regular in-church Sunday Liturgy Services along with a Sunday School.

Message from Father John

Weekly Message

“According to your faith…”

Sometimes we think that our world is confined to our five senses: To what we see and hear and smell; to what we touch and taste and nothing beyond them.  We forget that we also have a spiritual sense that is deeper and above our five senses.  We forget our faith which connects us to our spiritual reality, to the spirit and soul in us.  We use it in our everyday conversations, like when we say, “have faith,” “Believe,” “spiritual reality.”etc.

On the healing of the two blind men, Jesus pointed to this inner reality in us.  They called Jesus “son of David,”as they appealed to him to heal them.  Jesus asked them if they belIeved that he could heal them and he pointed to their faith:  and they recovered their sight,“according to their faith.”

Our Faith and spiritual life  is based upon God’s revelation to us in His Son Jesus Christ:  His teaching, His miracles, His Crucifixion and Resurrection from the dead for our salvation, His Ascension to heaven and His Promise that He will return in glory, at an unknown time, to judge the living and the dead.  Everything that preceded His Coming and what will follow are based on Jesus.

Our Church, which received the promised Holy Spirit, celebrates and relives these events every day.  It invites all of us to participate in the saving life of Jesus Christ through the Holy Sacraments;  to develop a spiritual life with the assistance of the Grace of God which we receive through them.

Let us rise above our five senses, which serve only our material needs.  Let us enrich them with our faith in God, with the assistance of His Grace, which we received in our Chrismation.  Then we will realize that we are also spiritual beings and our destination is heaven.   We are just sojourners, pilgrims here.

With love, Fr. John P. Angelis

Joseph the Righteous of Arimathea

Saint Joseph of Arimathea was a prominent Jewish leader during the time of Jesus Christ. He is mentioned in the Gospels as being a rich man from Armiathea who was a secret disciple of Christ due to his status in the Sanhedrin. After the crucifixion and death of our Lord, Joseph approached Pontius Pilate out of piety and asked for the body of Jesus so that he might bury it honorably. He, together with Saint Nicodemus, removed the body of Christ from the cross in the presence of the Theotokos and the Myrrh-Bearing Women, wrapped it in a linen shroud, anointed it with spices, and laid it in a new tomb that he owned. This disciple later traveled the world proclaiming the Gospel until he reposed in peace in England. The Church commemorates him individually on July 31st and along with the Myrrh-Bearing Women and Nicodemus on the 3rd Sunday of Pascha (the Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-Bearers).

Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal Second Tone

O Christ, the angelic powers appeared at Your tomb, the guards were as dead, and Mary stood by the sepulcher, seeking Your sacred body. You destroyed Hades yet remained untouched by it. You encountered the Virgin and through her, bestowed Life. Glory to You who has risen from the dead!

Apolytikion for Eudocimus of Cappadocia in the Fourth Tone

The One that hath called thee from the earth to Heaven to dwell * preserveth thy body uncorrupted after thy death, O saintly Eudocimus; * for in living modestly and chastely, O blest one, * thou didst keep thy flesh free of all stain and defilement; * with boldness, therefore, pray unto Christ that we may all be saved.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Grave Tone

You were transfigured upon the mount, O Christ our God, and Your disciples, in so far as they could bear, beheld Your glory. Thus, when they see You crucified, they may understand Your voluntary passion, and proclaim to the world that You are truly the effulgence of the Father.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal Second Tone. Psalm 27.9,1.
O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance.
Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 15:1-7.

Brethren, we who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak, and not to please ourselves; let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to edify him. For Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached thee fell on me." For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that by steadfastness and by the encouragement of the scriptures we might have hope. May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.

Gospel Reading

7th Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 9:27-35

At that time, as Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying aloud, "Have mercy on us, Son of David." When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to him, "Yes, Lord." Then he touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it done to you." And their eyes were opened. And Jesus sternly charged them, "See that no one knows it." But they went away and spread his fame through all that district.

As they were going away, behold, a dumb demoniac was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the dumb man spoke; and the crowds marveled, saying, "Never was anything like this seen in Israel." But the Pharisees said, "He casts out demons by the prince of demons."

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.
