Current Message
CALLED TO BECOME CHILDREN OF GOD
We have the golden rule in positive terms in the gospel lesson for the second Sunday of Saint Luke (Luke 6:31-36): “As you wish that men would do to you, so do to them.”. In the Old Testament, the Golden rule was given in (negative terms): “What you hate do not do it to others.” This is the second part of the summary of all the commandments of God: “To love our fellowman,” as we would like them to love us.
God has shown us the way in his Son: “While we were his enemies, he died for us.” Someone said to us: “He is so mean to me, and he tries to hurt me. How can I tolerate and love him?” Because he is such a person, he needs more love than hatred.
We cannot easily love a person who goes against us, humanly speaking. Only with the grace of God can we supersede our human attitudes of like and dislike. When we decide to change our attitude towards him and pray to God to help us, to love him, then the grace of God will enable us to tolerate, accept and love the other person.
God never asks us to do anything that he has not done himself. In addition, he helps us with his grace to overcome our attitude, that our fallen human nature tries to dictate to us. Let us listen then to God‘s advice and follow His Example to become His beloved sons and daughters.

The Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian and the Virgin Martyr Justina
Saint Justina who was from Damascus, lived in virginity for the sake of Christ. Saint Cyprian, who was from Antioch, began as an initiate of magic and worshipper of the demons. A certain foolish young man who had been smitten with Justina's beauty hired Cyprian to draw her to love him; when Cyprian had wed every demonic device he knew, and had failed, being repulsed by the power of Christ Whom Justina invoked, he understood the weakness of the demons and came to know the truth. Delivered from demonic delusion, he came to Christ and burned all his books of magic, was baptized, and later ascended the episcopal throne in his country. Later, he and Justina were arrested by the Count of Damascus, and having endured many torments at his hands, they were sent finally to Diocletian in Nicomedia, where they were beheaded about the year 304.

For you bring forth healings of every kind for those who piously cry out: Glory to Christ who has glorified you, Glory to him who made you wondrous, glory to him who workest healings for all through you.

Verse: Bring to the Lord, O sons of God, bring to the Lord honor and glory.
The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 6:1-10.
Brethren, working together with him, we entreat you not to accept the grace of God in vain. For he says, "At the acceptable time I have listened to you, and helped you on the day of salvation." Behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We put no obstacle in any one's way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, tumults, labors, watching, hunger; by purity, knowledge, forbearance, kindness, the Holy Spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the selfish. Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful."

The post pandemic goal for St. Nectarios - Pasco is to again have regular Sunday Liturgy Services along with Sunday School Classes. You are welcome to join us in working on this quest.
Currently, St Nectarios has a mixture of in church and on-line Services. Each month, there are usualy two in-Church Services: a Saturday Divine Liturgy and a Sunday Typica Service. The celebration of most on-line Services is conducted by Fr. John Angelis (in Seattle, WA) and the St. Nectarios Choir/Readers/Volunteers (in the Tri-Cities, WA). These on-line Services allows Father John to join us for Services without requiring travel to the Tricities.
The faithful may view/participate in the online Services on the Saint Nectarios-Pasco Group on Facebook. Online Services will be streamed and posted after they are complete. For many of the Services, the text is included to help the faithful follow the Service.
