Today, Sunday we will have our General Assembly during Coffee Hour. Please be present as we need to discuss some important items and nominate Parish Council Members for the upcoming year.
Attention! Openings on the Parish Council
Three vacancies for our Parish Council are coming up. Terms start in January. During the General Assembly names will be nominated for election. The following week, December 10th, a parish-wide vote will take place to fill those positions. Do you feel called to be a leader of our church? In order to be on the ballot for Parish Council and/or vote, you be a "Member in Good Standing".
What qualified a member in good standing?
1 - Baptized Orthodox Christian
2 - Frequent Participation in the Sacramental life
3 - Financial Contribution to Saint Nicholas Parish
Sunday School Children Christmas Decorating
Today all the children will be decorating the sanctuary while the parents are at the General Assembly in the hall. Please have your children, after they enjoy the cocoa bar, meet upstairs to put up ornaments, etc. Thank you!
St. Nicholas Appreciation Luncheon: Dec 10th!!!
The Talarantas family will be hosting an Appreciation Luncheon for St. Nicholas Feast day in honor of their son Vasili and in appreciation for all of our hard-working volunteers at the 60th Annual Greek Festival. This was the most successful Greek Festival yet and it was because of all your hard work. Thank you!
Please allow our Sunday School teachers with their students to approach the chalice first as they need to head to class. Then, starting with the first pew, followed by the second pew, then the third, etc. approach the chalice via the center aisle. If you are not Orthodox or not prepared to receive Holy Communion please come forward and ask the priest for a blessing.
Olive Oil Needed
Father Thomas is in need of Olive Oil for the kandili on the altar at the church. If you purchase olive oil for your home please consider purchasing an extra bottle for the Church so that we can keep the ever-burning kandili always lit upon the altar in front of the tabernacle.
Intro Into Orthodoxy Class
Our next class will take place on Wednesday December 6th at 6:30pm as scheduled. This will follow Matthew’s baptism at 5:00pm.
The next Bible Study will take place on Thurs. Dec. 7th at 6pm at Father Thomas’ home.
The Orthodox Church enters into a period of fasting from Nov 15th until Christmas Day. This is a time when we collectively refrain from meat, dairy, fish, oil, and wine. (There are a few exceptions.) For those interested in knowing more & have specific questions about the fast, please see Father Thomas. Let us remember what Saint John Chrysostom says, “he is mistaken who thinks that the fast consists only in abstinence from food. True fasting is departing from evil.”
Please visit the Church Calendar on our webside for the dates and times of all upcoming church services. www.stnicholasgoc.net.
St. Nicholas Bookstore
Visit our new bookstore located in the Narthex. At this time, forms of acceptable payments are checks and cash only. We hope you find some treasures!
Please note that Father Thomas will be available for confession each Saturday after the service of Great Vespers. There is no need to make an appointment. As always, if you would like to schedule a time outside of Saturday evening for confession please contact Fr. Thomas.
We welcome all visitors. Please introduce yourself to Fr. Thomas at the end of the service and if you are able, please stay for the Coffee Hour.
