Apolytikion for Afterfeast of the Entry of the Theotokos in the Fourth Mode

Today is the prelude of God's pleasure and the proclamation of man's salvation. The Virgin is clearly made manifest in the temple of God and foretells Christ to all. Let us also cry out to her with mighty voice, "Hail, fulfillment of the Creator's dispensation."

Kanona Pisteos (A Canon of the Faith) - You revealed the holiness of your life to your flock as a canon of faith, an example of meekness and a teaching of temperance; wherefore you acquired greatness through humility and spiritual wealth through poverty. Father and Hierarch Nicholas intercede to Christ God that He may save our souls.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Fourth Mode

Today, the most pure temple of the Savior, the precious bridal chamber and Virgin, the sacred treasure of God, enters the house of the Lord, bringing the grace of the Divine Spirit. The Angels of God praise her. She is the heavenly tabernacle.

Peter, Archbishop of Alexandria

Saint Peter illustriously occupied the throne of Alexandria for twelve years, and, as Eusebius says, "was a divine example of a bishop on account of the excellence of his life and his study of the sacred Scriptures" (see Eusebius, Eccl. Hist., Book VII, 3 2; Book VIII 11, 13; and Book IX, 6). He excommunicated Arius for his sympathy with the Meletian schism. When Arius learned that Saint Peter had been imprisoned, he sent many priests and deacons to him, asking that he receive him back into the communion of the Church before his martyrdom. When the ambassadors of Arius, who had not, like Saint Peter, perceived the ruin he would engender, were astonished at the vehemence with which Saint Peter refused to receive Arius again, he revealed to them a dread vision he had seen, in which the Master Christ had appeared to him as a child wearing a garment torn from head to foot. When Saint Peter asked the Lord who rent His garment, the Lord answered that it was Arius, and that he must not be received back into communion. The holy hieromartyr Peter was beheaded during the reign of Maximinus in the year 312; he is called the "Seal of the Martyrs," because he was the last Bishop of Alexandria to suffer martyrdom under the pagan Emperors. His successors to the throne of Alexandria, Saints Alexander and Athanasius the Great, brought to final victory the battle against Arius' heresy which Saint Peter had begun.

Our Holy Father Clement, Pope of Rome

Saint Clement was instructed in the Faith of Christ by the Apostle Peter. He became Bishop of Rome in the year 91, the third after the death of the Apostles. He died as a martyr about the year 100 during the reign of Trajan.

Fast of the Nativity

We are presently in the Nativity Fast, a period of abstinence and penance practiced by the Eastern Orthodox,  in preparation for the Nativity of Christ.  The fast is a more relaxed fast with fish, oil and wine allowed until December 10th. An exception is made for Thanksgiving.

Church Etiquette

11/24/2019

Please be reminded that out of respect for what goes on during the Divine Liturgy, there are certain time when not to enter the Nave. These times are: 1) between the readings of the Epistle and Gospel; 2) when the priest censes the icons and the congregation; and 3) whenever the priest faces the congregation to bless them.  When entering the Nave, please enter by the side aisles and not by the middle isle.  Stanchions will be placed by the Narthex door in order to prevent anyone from entering the Nave at inappropriate time. When the Parish Council Members ask that no one enter at a particular time, please heed their request.  It is disruptive to the other worshipers when someone enters the Nave at an inappropriate time.  Everyone’s cooperation is appreciated.


Respectful Worship Environment

The worship experience is enhanced by having your children participate. Please help them learn proper behavior and reverence while in the Church. Teach them to cross themselves, venerate the Icons, & respond prayerfully “Lord have mercy.” If they become too loud, please take them to the Narthex for a brief stay and return as soon as they have calmed. Recitation of the Lord's Prayer

Please remember that everyone has the opportunity to say the Lord’s Prayer in their first language. The order of languages is: Greek, English, Spanish, Russian, Romanian, and Arabic, and German.


Holy Communion

The Holy Communion of the Orthodox is the Holy Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.  It is with awe and love that we approach the Divine Mysteries.  Therefore, the Communion of the Orthodox is reserved only for those baptized and chrismated Orthodox Christians who have prepared themselves by prayer and fasting, as prescribed by the Canons of the Holy Church.  Women, in respect of our Lord, please remove lipstick before you approach to receive, in order that no oils contact the Holy Spoon or the Holy Chalice.
