Today we celebrate the Sunday of Orthodoxy with a procession of icons. Children are reminded to bring their icons from home for the procession. We would like to encourage everyone to join the children and church school staff in the procession in commemoration of the "Restoration of Icons" in the church. The children will gather after communion to prepare.
A Special Tray will be passed today by the St. Eugenia Ladies Philotopchos to benefit the NJ Emergency Social Services.
Byzantine Choir Practice will be held today after the Divine Liturgy. All those interested in joining the choir are encouraged to participate.
In an attempt to witness Christ to the deaf community in Frederick, we will have ASL classes (American Sign Language) on Mondays following Great Compline. These intro classed will allow you to learn the basics of sign language and lay a foundation for future development if desired.
Join us for the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts on Wednesday followed by "Lenten Talk", a brief lecture and discussion series, along with a lenten potluck meal.
2019 St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival will be held Saturday, March 23rd beginning at 3:00 pm.
The St. Eugenia Philoptochos will hold a general meeting on Thursday April 4th at 7:15 pm. All members are encouraged to attend. Board elections will be held on May 1st, if you are interested in serving on the board, please contact Marie Carras for more information.
Great Compline Each Monday through April 15th, at 6:00 pm. This is a prayer service in which many psalms are chanted together with evening prayers usually said with the Small Compline. It includes the well-known hymns “God is with Us” and “O Lord of Hosts”.
Liturgy of the Pre-Sanctified Gifts each Wednesday at 6pm and Friday at 9am:
This special liturgy is allowed only during the Great Fast. The Divine Liturgy may not be celebrated on weekdays during Great Lent. However, the need still exists, especially during this time of year when we are struggling with our spiritual lives against evil and our own weaknesses, to receive the Body and Blood of Christ more often. Therefore, the priest consecrates an extra host on the previous Sunday which is then used during this liturgy, thus the name Pre-Sanctified Liturgy. This is one of the most beautiful services of the Church. Fasting is required from at least the noon meal in order to receive Holy Communion.
The Akathist Service to the Theotokos every Friday at 7:00 pm: This service is a combination of Small Compline (after dinner prayers) and the Canon and salutations to the Theotokos. It is celebrated on the first five Fridays of the Great Fast.
The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation, Baltimore, MD will host the twenty-fifth Annual Nicholas Tsakalos Growing in Faith Retreat which will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019. The Retreat Masters are Father Nicholas and Presvytera Roxanne Louh of Saint John the Divine Greek Orthodox Church in Jacksonville, Florida. The topic for the retreat is “Daily principles you can apply to make 2019 the best year of your life, spiritually.” Contact Jeanne Tsakalos, 410-252-6021 or Jeannetsakalos@hotmail.com. The early registrations cost for the retreat is $30.00, until March 11. The 20th Annual Memorial Lenten Retreat will be held on Saturday, March 30th, 2019, here at SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Annapolis, MD, from 9 am - 3 pm, with Guest Retreat Speaker, Hank Hanegraaff. St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Bethesda will be hosting a BeeTreat on Saturday March 30th with Steve Christoforou and Christian Gonzalez. Church Parking Lot: Please do not leave empty spots in front of your vehicle when parking in the Church parking lot. Parking spots labeled as a handicapped parking spots are reserved for vehicles with handicapped parking permits only.
Having worshiped and prayed together, our Sunday Coffee Hour is a wonderful time for fellowship. We are asking all parishioners to sign up and host a coffee hour. Just one Sunday per family will fill all available slots for the year. As a blessing for you and your family, consider sponsoring a Coffee Hour to coincide with your patron Saint's Feast day or any other momentous occasion you happen to be celebrating.
