Three Hierarchs Bookstore: We are planning on opening the Three Hierarchs Bookstore in the Dr. Peter Tsaknis Social Hall in the near future. The bookstore will offer books, icons, prayer ropes, incense, censers and other spiritually edifying material. We are in need of volunteers to staff it on Sunday's. If you're interested in participating in this new parish ministry, please contact Fr. George.
Youth Ministries: Sunday School, Greek School, GOYA, and HOPE/JOY have all resumed for the new year. There is still time to register.
Bible Study: Our Bible study session has begun and meets every Tuesday at 7pm. We are studying the Epistles of the New Testament. Please contact Fr. George if you're interested in participating.
Email Scam: Please be advised that the Archdiocese has experienced email scams at a nationwide level in which parishioners are emailed asking to financially assist the priest for some sort of emergency. These emails are derived from an email address that is not connected to any clergy, but seem legitimate. Pleased be advised that I would NOT email you requesting emergency funds.
The 27th Annual AGAPE Tea will be held on Saturday, October 5, 2019, from 2PM to 4PM at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. The Children's AGAPE Foundation of the Greater Washington Metropolitan Area assists sick & needy children in payment of medical and other medical-related expenses not covered by insurance or public or private programs.
The Ladies Philoptochos will hold their general meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 2nd at 7:15pm.
The Mission of Mercy has a simple mission: To restore dignity, “Healing through Love” by providing free healthcare. Fr. George & Philoptochos visited the free mobile health & dental clinics & free prescription medications this week. The Mission of Mercy serves an estimated 3,000 patient visits annually in Frederick & Brunswick. Also present were the Maryland Food Bank & the Frederick Health Department. The mobile clinics visit Frederick on alternate Mondays at the Church of Latter-Day Saints on North Street. Philoptochos provides brown bag lunches for patients every other month. Patients can take home a grocery bag of fresh fruits & vegetables provided by the Maryland Food Bank. The Frederick Health Department offers free HIV & breast cancer screenings.
The Mission of Mercy relies on volunteers, including doctors & nurses. Medical specialists such as oral surgeons, dentists & dermatologists are needed. Hospital Ministry: Should you or a loved one need hospital or long term care, Fr. George would like to visit. Please be advised that Frederick Memorial Hospital (and most facilities) will not automatically notify Fr. George upon admission, but only when requested by the patient or caregiver.

ST. PHOTIOS GREEK ORTHODOX SHRINE ~ 2019 ANNUAL ESSAY CONTEST: The Essay Contest Program is generously supported through the estate of Mrs. Katie D'Anna and AHEPA Socrate Chapter #6, located in Jacksonville, Florida. The St. Photios Foundation, Inc. invites all teenagers 13-19 years of age to submit a 1,000-word essay to the St. Photios Essay Committee to participate in the annual Essay Contest. Prices are awarded to the top three essays: 1st place wins $500; 2nd place wins $250 and 3rd place wins $100. The Committee accepts submissions through January 6, 2020.
