Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Third Tone

Let all things above in heav'n rejoice, and let all things below on earth be glad. With all the might and strength of His arm an eternal deed the Lord did perform. Beneath His feet He has trampled down death by death, and first born of the dead has He become. From the womb of Hades has He delivered us, and to all the world has granted His great redeeming mercy.

Apolytikion for Afterfeast of the Dormition in the First Tone

In birth, you preserved your virginity; in death, you did not abandon the world, O Theotokos. As mother of life, you departed to the source of life, delivering our souls from death by your intercessions.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Tone

Neither the grave nor death could contain the Theotokos, the unshakable hope, ever vigilant in intercession and protection. As Mother of life, He who dwelt in the ever-virginal womb transposed her to life.

Andrew the General & Martyr & his 2,593 soldiers

During the reign of Maximian, about the year 289, Antiochus the Commander-in-Chief of the Roman forces sent Andrew with many other soldiers against the Persians, who had overrun the borders of the Roman dominion. Saint Andrew persuaded his men to call upon the Name of Christ, and when they had defeated the Persians with unexpected triumph, his soldiers believed in Christ with him. Antiochus, learning of this, had them brought before him. When they confessed Christ to be God, he had Andrew spread out upon a bed of iron heated fiery hot, and had the hands of his fellow soldiers nailed to blocks of wood. Antiochus then commanded some thousand soldiers to chase the Saints beyond the borders of the empire. Through the instructions of Saint Andrew, these soldiers also believed in Christ. At the command of Antiochus, they were all beheaded in the mountain passes of the Taurus mountains of Cilicia.

Community News and Events

Tuesday Morning Bible Study Class Will Help Festival Baking This Week

Instead of our regular class, we will help make Kourambiethes...we hope to see you there!

Greek Dance Practices

The Greek Festival is a little more than a month away, so it is important that all dancers attend the practices and communicate with Renee if there are any questions or schedule conflicts.

  • Today:  Ellinopoula/Asteria immediately after Liturgy; Young Olympians after the little kids; Paradosi at 4:30 today;  Alpha/Omega Adult Dance & Fellowship tonight at 6:00.

  • Wednesday: Young Olympians at 7:00 pm

  • Friday: Ellinopoula and Asteria will have practice on Friday Evening at 6:30 and 7:15 respectively.

Festival Baking

We will be making Kourambiethes this week from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 21,22).  The remaining  schedule is as follows: kourabiedes on Augus 21-22; Finikia on August 28, 30; and final prep/baklava cupping on September 5, 6, 8.  We thank everyone who has been helping, and enjoying another fun year baking for our Festival.

Community Care for our Community Center

We are all thrilled to have and use our new community center.  We had hoped it would be used...and it indeed is being used several times each week.  With this use, comes additional clean up and maintenance needs.  As you probably know, we have a cleaning service that comes each Thursday to empty trash, sweep, mop, vacuum the various rooms/areas.  What you may not know, is that they do not move furniture or chairs...what does this mean to us?  It means we are all responsible to make sure the floor under and around the tables in the Hall is swept and kept clean.  It means that the trash needs to be emptied (especially 'food trash') after fellowship.

Also, and very importantly: feel free to adjust the temperature on the thermostats...but ONLY USE THE BLUE BUTTON TO LOWER AND THE RED BUTTON TO RAISE THE TEMP.  The thermostats are set to a program to 'reset' at certain hours, but please make sure that at the end of the event (Sunday Fellowship, Dance, GOYA, Sons, AHEPA, etc, that the thermostats are all raised up to 80. This is necessary because we have had the program over-ridden several times (inadvertantly) and the AC has been left on...in some cases set very cold overnight.  Also, please make sure all lights are turned off and the doors are all locked and closed before the last person leaves.  If you have any questions, please feel free to ask any of our Parish Council Members or Father George.  Thanks!

Community Center Loan Reminder and Update

As you probably remember, our bank loan for the Community Center became effective February 13, 2018.  We are now 6 months in to the loan.  As a part of our loan requirement, we need to raise $36,000 every six months. Thanks to those who are continuing to donate to the Community Center Fund.  If we break the total down by the number of Stewardship Families, using 100 families, if each family is able to give $360 every 6 months (about $2/day) in addition to our regular stewardship pledge, this would meet our required payment.  Please continue to support our efforts to repay the loan as we continue to enjoy fun and fellowship on our New Community Center!

Metropolis of Denver Clergy Laity

Father George and our Parish Council are happy to announce that our community will be hosting the Metropolis of Denver Clergy Laity next summer.  This is quite an honor, and an opportunity to highlight and showcase all of the great things going on at Holy Trinity...and encourage other small to mid-size parishes in our Metropolis to to recognize that we are all able to great things, not just the 'big' parishes in larger cities.  If you would like to help with the planning, etc and serve on the Committee, please let Father George or one of our PC Officers (Andy, Dennis, Adam, BIll) know.  Meetings and planning will pick up after our Greek Festival.

Yiayia's Attic

We need items for our very first Yiayia's Attic at our Greek Festival.  Go through your closets, attics, and storage areas, and bring any gently used or new items you would like to donate for us to sell in Yiayia's Attic.  Suggested items: books, furniture, sports equipment, small appliances, utensils, home décor, etc.  NO CLOTHES PLEASE.  Items can be brought to the church (SLC) or pick up can be scheduled...If you aren't sure or have any questions, feel free to ask Nick Salis (918) 261-3402 or nicksalis25@gmail.com

Centennial Book

Thank you very much to all the parishioners who submitted their family stories.  It has helped us tremendously to determine the layout for our book.  We may have more room for more family submissions in the book and/or on the dvd.  If you missed the deadline and still want to have your family story included, we are extending a new Final, Final, Final deadline for submissions to November 30, 2018.  If you aren't sure what to write, there are a few examples in the SLC lobby by the display case wheer the Parish Council Minutes are posted.  Please contact Gina Kingsley (greekmuse@cox.net or 918-625-1491).  We are still in need of submissions for some of our Ministries and Groups: Sons of Pericles, Maids of Athena, YAL, Joy/Hope, Vacation Church/Bible School, Greek School, Greek Dance, etc.  If you are willing to write a brief paragraph or provide comments it will help make our Centennial Book and Celebration that much better!  Thank You.

Prayer List For Monthly Newsletter

As you saw in the last monthly newsletter, we will be starting a Prayer List section in our newsletter.  Please send your name if you would like to be included in this section.  We will include the names of our Church Leaders and any others who ask to be included.  Thank you.

High Chairs in the Hall

We want to thank a donor for the high chairs that are now available in the Hall, and will continue to be put to good use by all the babies and toddlers in our community!  Please take care in moving and storing them, a couple have already been damaged.  It would be best if we leave them set up around the perimeter of the Hall for easy access and use during fellowship on Sundays and other events.  Thank you.

Adult Greek Dance...Another Great Opportunity for Fellowship

It's time for the adults to have some fun and dance!  We had a great time last Sunday evening  Greek Dancing, along with fun fellowship opportunity as well!  We will continue to meet and keep it simple, so everyone will be able to have fun: first timers to 'experienced' dancers.

Not a dancer?  Not a problem, come and enjoy the fun and fellowship, Sunday at 6:00 pm

Catered Lunch Program

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Matins Gospel Reading

First Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from Matthew 28:16-20

At that time, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshipped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age. Amen."

First Orthros Gospel

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Third Tone. Psalm 46.6,1.
Sing praises to our God, sing praises.
Verse: Clap your hands, all you nations.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 15:1-11.

Brethren, I would remind you in what terms I preached to you the gospel, which you received, in which you stand, by which you are saved, if you hold it fast -- unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God which is with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.

Third Tone.

Gospel Reading

12th Sunday of Matthew
The Reading is from Matthew 19:16-26

At that time, a young man came up to Jesus, kneeling and saying, "Good Teacher, what good deed must I do, to have eternal life?" And he said to him, "Why do you call me good? One there is who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments." He said to him, "Which?" And Jesus said, "You shall not kill, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and You shall love your neighbor as yourself." The young man said to him, "All these I have observed; what do I still lack?" Jesus said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.

And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?" But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

12th Sunday of Matthew
