Babylas the Holy Martyr
Saint Babylas was the twelfth Bishop of Antioch, being the successor of Zebinus (or Zebinas); he was beheaded during the reign of Decius, in the year 250, and at his own request was buried in the chains with which he was bound. The Emperor Gallus (reigned 351-354) built a church in his honour at Daphne, a suburb of Antioch, to put an end to the demonic oracles at the nearby temple of Apollo. When Julian the Apostate came in 362 to consult the oracle about his campaign against the Persians, the oracle (that is, the demon within it) remained dumb until at last, answering Julian's many sacrifices and supplications, it told him, "The dead prevent me from speaking." It told Julian to dig up the bones and move them. Julian, then, in the words of Saint John Chrysostom, "leaving all the other dead, moved only that Martyr." He commanded the Christians to take away Saint Babylas' bones, which they did with great solemnity and triumph. When this had been done, a thunderbolt fell from heaven destroying with fire the shrine of Apollo, which Julian did not dare rebuild. Saint John Chrysostom preached a sermon on this within a generation after.

Moses the Prophet & Godseer
The Prophet Moses-whose name means "one who draws forth," or "is drawn from," that is, from the water-was the pinnacle of the lovers of wisdom, the supremely wise lawgiver, the most ancient historian of all. He was of the tribe of Levi, the son of Amram and Jochabed (Num. 26:59). He was born in Egypt in the seventeenth century before Christ. While yet a babe of three months, he was placed in a basket made of papyrus and covered with pitch, and cast into the streams of the Nile for fear of Pharaoh's decree to the mid-wives of the Hebrews, that all the male children of the Hebrews be put to death. He was taken up from the river by Pharaoh's daughter, became her adopted son, and was reared and dwelt in the King's palace for forty years. Afterward, when he was some sixty years old, he fled to Madian, where, on Mount Horeb, he saw the vision of the burning bush. Thus he was ordained by God to lead Israel and bring it out of the land of Egypt. He led Israel through the Red Sea as it were dry land and governed the people for forty years. He wrought many signs and wonders, and wrote the first five books of the Old Testament, which are called the Pentateuch. When he reached the land of Moab, he ascended Mount Nabau, on the peak called Phasga, and there, by divine command, he reposed in the sixteenth century before Christ, having lived for some 120 years. The first two Odes of the Old Testament, "Let us sing to the Lord" and "Attend, O heaven, and I will speak," were written by him. Of these hymns, the first was chanted by the shore of the Red Sea as soon as the Israelites had crossed it; the second, in the land of Moab, a few days before his repose. The Holy High Priest Aaron was the elder brother of the Holy Prophet Moses. He was appointed by God to serve as the spokesman of Moses before the people, and also before Pharaoh, in Egypt. Afterwards, in the wilderness, he was called to the ministry of the high priesthood, as narrated in the books of Exodus, Leviticus, and Numbers in the Old Testament. The name Aaron means "enlightened."

Greek Dancing Program Is Back
We are happy to have our Greek Dancing Program return! It's not too late to join! 7th-12th grade dancers practice Wednesdays at 6pm. Older dancers have practice after Liturgy on Sundays. Thank you to Rita Howell and Katie Henry for leading this effort.
Youth Activities
As we ramp back up with school, the festival and more importantly, our new Ecleastical Year, our Youth Team will announce a series of events to strengthen this important ministry.
To kick things off we are planning a float trip for the altar boys on Saturday, September 10th. Please contact Father George to confirm your place. Will meet at the Church at 8am. It takes 45 minutes to get to the launch point near Tahlequah. Will float the river (3 to 4 hours) and then have lunch. Should be back around 3pm. This event is sponsored so the only thing the boys need to bring is a swimsuit, sunscreen and a change of clothes. There will be adult supervision, dadw are welcome to join us.
Festival Prep
We will finish up the Festival Baking, This week Tuesday-Friday, 9am-3pm each day:
- Tuesday - Friday September 6-9 (we will have Services on 9/8 for the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos)
We will send an email to everyone if there are any adjustments to this schedlue.
The final prep and for the Festival continues as well. Thanks to our Festival Steering Committee, and everyone who continues to work and make sure everything will be ready for our Greek Festival, which will take place September 22-24.

Classes Beginning This Month at HTGOC
With the New Ecclesiastical Year beginning this month, we are looking forward to the return of our Women's Book Study Group on Tuesdays at 10:30 am, our Bible Study Class on Wednesdays at 10:30 am. We will also have Paraklesis Service each Wednesday evening at 5:30pm. This month, following Paraklesis we will have an Orthodoxy Class: Intro to Christian Church History. The first class will be this Wednesday including an Introduction, and discussion of a "Timeline of Christianity", "Where Do We Fit In?", the Ancient Patriarchates, and the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
Sunday Church School Teachers
We will have our first (brief) SCS Teachers meeting this Wednesday after Paraklesis, before the Orthodoxy Class begins.
Metropolis of Denver News
With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, our Metropolis Council has some exciting news and requests. As you may remember, His Grace Bishop Elect Constantine of Sassima will be ordained (elevated) to the rank of Bishop on October 15 at the Archdiocese Cathedral in New York. Father George will be there representing our Community as well as the Clergy of our Metropolis. His Grace will then be moving to Denver to assist our Metropolitan. One of his main efforts will be to visit all of the Parishes in our Metroplis. We look forward to welcoming His Grace when he is able to make a pastoral visit to Tulsa. Please pray for His Grace Bishop Elect, and continue to pray for His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah, and all of our clergy. We anticipate a formal communication with more information and details.
Also, our Metropolis is in the process of purchasing a Property in Colorado that will be used for Camp Emmanuel, as well as other retreats and gatherings for the parishes and parishioners of our Metropolis. The anticipated closing date will be sometime in toward sthe end of September/beginning of October. This is good news, and for many brings back great memories of summer camp weeks spent in Wyoming in the 1970s and 1980s. Once again, we anticipate more information and details in the coming weeks.
As part of the Strategic Plan for our Metropolis, Father George continues to work with other clergy and lay leaders to expand and develop Youth, Young Adult, and Family Ministries in our metropolis. One of the upcoming events will be a Church Music Conference: Come Let Us Worship and Sing Praises to the Lord in hosted by the Metropolis of Denver Music Ministry in Denver November 3-6. If you have any questions, or would like more information, please contact Chrysanthy Therianos (President of the Metropolis of Denver Music Ministry).
Also, as you may remember, the Metropolis of Denver GOYA Basketball Tournament will be in Tulsa this coming January during the Martin Luther King Weekend. There will also be a Metropolis Council Meeting in Tulsa a couple of days before the Tournamnent. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Tulsa.
Women and Wine Fellowship Opportunity
There will be another opportunity for women's fellowship on Saturday, October 15 from 5-8pm at Ruth Chiconas' home. Look for more info in the coming weeks.

Did You Notice?
As was discussed at our Parish Assembly in June, our Parish Council and Maintenance Committee (along with Father George) the perimeter fence will provide more security and safety around our church.The fence is up, and the motorized gates should be operational this week. A They will be open on Sunday mornings, and during services. We will communicate with everyone with information about how to open/close for those who will need regular access. We can continue to use the "East" Lot across the street from the church.
Wisdom of the Fathers
Rise from love of the world and love of pleasure. Put care aside, strip your mind, refuse your body. Prayer, after all, is a turning away from the world, visible and invisible. What have I in heaven? Nothing except simply to cling always to You in undistracted prayer. Wealth pleases some, glory others, possessions others, but what I want is to cling to God and to put the hopes of my dispassion in Him (cf. Ps. 72:25, 28).
