Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal Fourth Tone

From on high You descended, Most Merciful; for us You condescended to a threeday burial to set us free from the passions. O Lord, our Resurrection and our Life, glory to You!

Apolytikion for Maximus the Confessor in the Plagal Fourth Tone

You are a guide of Orthodoxy, a teacher of piety and modesty, a luminary of the world, the God inspired pride of monastics. O wise Maximos, you have enlightened everyone by your teachings. You are the harp of the Spirit. Intercede to Christ our God for the salvation of our souls.

Apolytikion for the Church in the Plagal Fourth Tone

Blessed are You * O Christ our God * Who by sending down * The Holy Spirit upon them * Made the fishermen wise and through them * Illumined the world * And to You, the universe was ever drawn, All glory to You O Lord.

Seasonal Kontakion in the First Tone

Your birth sanctified a Virgin's womb and properly blessed the hands of Symeon. Having now come and saved us O Christ our God, give peace to Your commonwealth in troubled times and strengthen those in authority, whom You love, as only the loving One.

Neophytos the Martyr of Nicaea

The Martyr Neophytos, who was from Nicea in Bithynia, was the son of pious parents, Theodore and Florence. Led by grace from his childhood, he took up his dwelling in a cave upon Mount Olympus at the age of nine and lived there in asceticism and prayer. At the age of fifteen, during the reign of Diocletian about the year 290, he presented himself to the local Governor named Decius. Roused to fury by his unexpected boldness, Decius had him scourged, then laid out on a bed of fire. When he had been preserved by grace through these torments, he gave him up to wild beasts. But since the Saint remained unharmed, a certain pagan fell on him with a sword and slew him.

Maximus the Confessor

The divine Maximus, who was from Constantinople, sprang from an illustrious family. He was a lover of wisdom and an eminent theologian. At first, he was the chief private secretary of the Emperor Heraclius and his grandson Constans. When the Monothelite heresy became predominant in the royal court, out of hatred for this error the Saint departed for the Monastery at Chrysopolis (Scutari), of which he later became the abbot. When Constans tried to constrain him either to accept the Monothelite teaching, or to stop speaking and writing against it - neither of which the Saint accepted to do - his tongue was uprooted and his right hand was cut off, and he was sent into exile where he reposed in 662. At the time only he and his few disciples were Orthodox in the East (See also August 13).

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Matins Gospel Reading

Eleventh Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from John 21:14-25

At that time, Jesus revealed himself to the disciples after he was raised from the dead. And he said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs." A second time he said to him, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord; you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me?" And he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep. Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you girded yourself and walked where you would; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish to go." (This he said to show by what death he was to glorify God.) And after this he said to him, "Follow me." Peter turned and saw following them the disciple whom Jesus loved, who had lain close to his breast at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?" When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about this man?" Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!" The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?" This is the disciple who is bearing witness to these things, and who has written these things; and we know that his testimony is true. But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

Eleventh Orthros Gospel

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal Fourth Tone. Psalm 75.11,1.
Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.
Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 3:4-11.

Brethren, when Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. In these you once walked, when you lived in them. But now put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and foul talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all.

Plagal Fourth Tone.

Gospel Reading

12th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 17:12-19

At that time, as Jesus entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said: "Jesus, Master, have mercy on us." When he saw them he said to them, "Go and show yourselves to the priests." And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus's feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then said Jesus: "Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?" And he said to him: "Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well."

12th Sunday of Luke

A Note From our Outreach Ministry

As part of our efforts, we would like to hear from YOU!  Thanks to those who have submitted the survey sheets, if you haven't done so, please take a moment to fill out this anonymous survey to help us focus our efforts to best serve our community.  Your opinion is important to us!

Faith Group

This is an awesome Ministry Group for our younger children.  Families with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are invited to join our Faith Group!  We will host one event per season on Saturday mornings.  Join for fellwoship and to get better acquainted with other members.  If you have scheduling conflicts and need to bring older children along, that is fine!  They will probably be helpful in assisting with the younger children.  Our next get together will be next Saturday, February 3 at Holy Trinity.

Here is the Schedule:

  • Winter: Saturday, February 3: our Winter Activity - 10am at our Holy Trinity Gym (Iatridis Youth Activity Center) and/or Sophia Room

  • Spring: Saturday, April 6 - 10am Locatoin TBD

  • Summer: Date/Time TBD - Bartlesville Kidde Park

We are thankful to Amelia Angelidis who is leading this group, and to Gina Kingsley who is helping her.  This is a great opportunity for families with younger children to get to know eachother!

REgistration has closed for the Basketball Tournamnet

Metroplis of Denver GOYA Basketball Tournament

We will be hosting the  2024 Metropolis of Denver GOYA Basketball Tournament in Tulsa. The Tournamnent dates have changed; and it will take place during the President's Day Weekend, February 16-19, 2024.  Following the Tournament, on Monday, Feb. 19, the Metropolis Clergy Laity will also be here in Tulsa.  This will be a one day (morning) meeting, most likely at the same hotel (Marriott Southern Hills).  Then, Tuesday through Thursday that same week, our Metroplis Clergy Syndesmos will have its annual Pre-Lent Retreat in Tulsa!  It is an honor for us to host these events for our Metropolis, and we look forward to welcoming eveyrone back to Tulsa.

With all this going on, we will be asking for volunteers to help with some of the planning and coordination.  The Metropolis Tournament Committee was thrilled with our community and the parishioners who were there to help.  This year, we will have a more prominant role and presence.  We will be asking our GOYAns and Young Adults to help with the planning, and add our 'Tulsa Touch' to the Tournament.  Anyone who would like to help please let Father George know.

HTGOC Total Body Workout

Our HTGOC Exercise Classes will resume on Wednesday morning this week.

Drivers are always needed, you can volunteer for HTGOC routes or any location that works for your schedule and location.  Please contact Stevi Tsaras or (918) 955-4466 for more information.
