WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS Summer is vacation season and we see old friends who travel to and from Maine (welcome back!) and those who are passing through. Today we would like to welcome Pablo Chong & Soula Prapas who are visiting from Florida. Unfortunately they find themselves in Maine resulting from an accident their son, Christopher (18), suffered during an outing in the state. Christopher is presently being treated at EMMC. The expectation is he can go home next Sunday. Please greet and meet Pablo & Soula this morning. If you can offer any personal support while they are in the area, it would be welcome. They are staying at Ronald McDonald House during this time.

WE’RE IN THE MIDST OF THE APOSTLES’ FAST NOW Following the week of Holy Pentecost, a short fast is undertaken that honors the Holy Apostles. It culminates with the Feast of the Holy Apostles Peter & Paul on June 29. This is a less strict fast in that eating fish is acceptable on all days apart from Wednesdays & Fridays during those three weeks. Consuming seafood on all days during fasting periods is acceptable. Otherwise, the faithful abstain from eating meat & dairy products during those three weeks.
FESTIVAL’S COMING! As always, we’ll need your help to have a successful festival at the waterfront. This is our major yearly fund-raiser. Please set aside August 25, 26 & 27 to be involved. Details will be forthcoming.

St. George has sent its youth to the camp for many years running—it’s a great program—if your kids have never gone before, this may be the year to start. Programs are available for campers who will be in grades 4 -12 in the fall of 2017.

WORSHIPING THE TRUE & LIVING GOD Worshiping the Living God, the All-Holy Trinity, is a witness of our faith in and love for Him. The Divine Liturgy is the service of thanksgiving to God. The Divine Liturgy is also the service of particular nurture for the Orthodox Christian--Christ is Present in the elements of Holy Communion. He nurtures those who approach with fear (reverence), faith and love. Those who partake of Communion receive God within. This is a great Mystery, not to be taken lightly, but one that the Orthodox Christian is bid to COME. Please avail yourself of the opportunities to worship the Lord and to receive Him in faith.

GREAT VESPERS St. George Church offers Great Vespers at 6PM on any evening before a Divine Liturgy will be served. Each Saturday evening at 6PM, Great Vespers is served in anticipation of Sunday morning’s Divine Liturgy. This will also be true of evenings preceding a major feast. Participation in these services is an opportunity for us to worship corporately and multiply the power of our prayers. If for any reason vespers will not be served, you will receive a message beforehand via the church list-server advising cancellation.

When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?" And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back, for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, "Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you." And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16.
Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

At that time, as Jesus walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. And he said to them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on from there he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. Immediately they left their boat and their father, and followed him. And he went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every infirmity among the people.
The 2017 Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek administered by the Direct Archdiocesan District Office of Education will take place Monday, June 19, from 1:15 - 4:15 p.m.
